Okay, so here is the short list of some of my favorite metal bands covering non-metal songs: - Fleur Diabolique - Dogs (Pink Floyd). This is the first song this band ever released, and is a great starting point for them. They really capture the essence of this song. It's just as hypnotic as the original. I love this cover and it's had quite the rotation in my listening experience since I first heard this song. I wish more metal bands covered Pink Floyd as it is a combination that is really pleasing to my ears and my soul. - Sepultura - War (Bob Marley). In my opinion, probably the most adventurous take on a non-metal song that I've ever heard or can remember. They completely rework this entire tune, making it their own. - Brujeria - Marijuana (Los Del Rio). I wasn't sure if I should even add this to this list as it is more of a spoof than a cover, as this is a reworking of the nineties dance hit "Macarena". I'm surprised this one doesn't get more attention than it does. It was a real challenge to keep this list to a minimum as I had about twice as many if not more metal cover songs on my initial list. I also learned about a lot of other covers or bands I didn't know about in the comments section. So your video conjured up a lot of great responses from others and in turn made this a win-win experience for me, Thanks to everyone!
* Correction: The Witching Hour cover by Slayer is actually a collaborative effort by Slayer / Machine Head. It is from Slayer's Live Intrusion concert video and also on Slayer's Live Intrusion 3 song live sampler promo that came as a bonus disc for the European version of Slayer's Undisputed Attitude covers album. There is no mention of Flynn and Kontos on the slipcase of the sampler. I knew Rob was on vocals but didn't realize Rob was playing guitar as well and that Chris Kontos (also from Machine Head at the time) was on drums also. My bad. Kontos' drum work on this tune is sick!
Very good Stuff here! For me the best Metal Cover i've ever heard is VOIVODs "Astronomy Domine" from Pink Floyd! And Man this outshines the Original by far! A Masterpiece!
Kreator - Grinder Death - God of Thunder Yngwie Malmsteen - Keep yourself alive Judas priest - Diamonds and Rust Pantera - Planet Caravan Hammerfall - Child of the damned
I would add some, that I believe deserve to be mentioned: 1. Dimmu Borgir, “Metal Heart”, originally by Accept 2. Sabaton - “Twilight of the Thunder god” ( Amon Amarth) Something weird - even though the notion is a younger groovier band to cover a classic in a more modern arrangement, over here we have Sabaton that did a heavy metal cover of a death metal song, and it works 3. Helloween - Electric eye ( Judas Priest), Fast as a shark ( Accept), Detroit, rock city ( Kiss) 4. Gamma Ray - Return to fantasy ( Uriah Heep), It’s a sin ( pet shop boys), Look at yourself ( Uriah Heep ) 5. Children of Bodom - “Don’t stop at the top” ( Scorpions), Mass Hypnosys ( Sepultura ), there are many others 6. Nightwish - “Over the hills and far away” ( Gary Moore), Walking in the air ( from the short animated movie “The Snowman”) 7. Metal church - Highway Star ( Deep Purple) 8. Dissection - Elizabeth Bathory ( Tormentor ) 9. Primal Fear - Kill the King ( Rainbow) 10. HammerFall - Child of the Damned ( Warlord ) 11. Grave Digger - Overkill ( Motorhead), Starlight ( Accept), Hellas ( Vassilis Papaconstantinou ) 12. Tarot - “Turn me on” ( Accept )

Also : Sepultura's Drug me (Dead Kennedys) and for a smile on my face : Children of bodom's Oops...The band did a lot of fun covers, but this one takes the cake!

I love the Austrian Death Machine cover of “Hell Bent for Leather.”
Dark Tranquility cover of My Friend of Misery from Metallica is a great one too
Yeah dude def
@@forgemastermetalCheck out Borknagar's version as well!
Bringer of torture or Sacred Reich are better, IMO.
Very good Stuff here! For me the best Metal Cover i've ever heard is VOIVODs "Astronomy Domine" from Pink Floyd! And Man this outshines the Original by far! A Masterpiece!
Kreator - Grinder
Death - God of Thunder
Yngwie Malmsteen - Keep yourself alive
Judas priest - Diamonds and Rust
Pantera - Planet Caravan
Hammerfall - Child of the damned
I would add some, that I believe deserve to be mentioned:
1. Dimmu Borgir, “Metal Heart”, originally by Accept
2. Sabaton - “Twilight of the Thunder god” ( Amon Amarth) Something weird - even though the notion is a younger groovier band to cover a classic in a more modern arrangement, over here we have Sabaton that did a heavy metal cover of a death metal song, and it works
3. Helloween - Electric eye ( Judas Priest), Fast as a shark ( Accept), Detroit, rock city ( Kiss)
4. Gamma Ray - Return to fantasy ( Uriah Heep), It’s a sin ( pet shop boys), Look at yourself ( Uriah Heep )
5. Children of Bodom - “Don’t stop at the top” ( Scorpions), Mass Hypnosys ( Sepultura ), there are many others
6. Nightwish - “Over the hills and far away” ( Gary Moore), Walking in the air ( from the short animated movie “The Snowman”)
7. Metal church - Highway Star ( Deep Purple)
8. Dissection - Elizabeth Bathory ( Tormentor )
9. Primal Fear - Kill the King ( Rainbow)
10. HammerFall - Child of the Damned ( Warlord )
11. Grave Digger - Overkill ( Motorhead), Starlight ( Accept), Hellas ( Vassilis Papaconstantinou )
12. Tarot - “Turn me on” ( Accept )
Sepultura's cover of proclamation of the wicked, orgasmatron and symptom of the universe.
That was an awesome video; im glad to see one that didnt just pick stuff everyone knows about. The only cover in this one i was award of KSE - Holy Diver.
I cant think of any that are my favorite
But Within The Ruins cover of Fight Fire With Fire (Metallica) is wicked
Shadow of Intent's cover of Laid to Rest was awesome but then ive never really been a fan of Lamb of God except for that song (just cant get into the vocals)
Oooo that’s a good one
Höyry-Kone’s version of ‘The Trooper’ is amazing.
Btbams cover of The Tank by The Dear Hunter is jawsometastic to the max yo yeehaw!
Machine Head-Message In A Bottle is one of my favorite covers.
Fightstar’s Fear of the Dark is amazing and as for Hallowed be thy name….just Machine Head. They also do a sick cover of the sentinel by priest.
Rebel Yell and She is Beautiful by Children of Bodom, Astronomy Domine by Voivod, Anarchy in the UK by Megadeth, Last Caress by Metallica, Antisocial, Bring thNoise, and Got the Time by Anthrax. Just to name a few.
Dimmu Borgir - Metal Heart (Accept cover) is killer, I saw a concert on TV around '98, the only thing that gives it away as a cover is the chorus \m/
Machinehead did a way better version of HBTN then cradle of filth
One of my favs ever is Blind Guardians version of Judas Priests beyond the realms of death.
Shadows Fall - Welcome to the machine and Bark at the moon
Hallowed by the Name yes, but from Machine Head!
Rainning Blood from Vader
I’m pretty sure Gojira has played escape live just as much as Metallica has 😂 I’ve only found 1 video of each live performance. I love that
To me the best metal cover ever is Machine Head’s version of Hallowed be Thy Name. I would also put their cover of Battery on the list.
Also The Dear Hunter cover of btbams Rapid Calm song is ultimate level badass yo yeehaw!
Megadeth’s cover on this planets on fire
Eternal Tears of Sorrow's cover of Black Tears is also very good.
Yes indeed Monstrosity is an incredibly underrated band. My favourite covers have to be Death's Painkiller and Anaal Nathrakh's Powerslave. Also : Sepultura's Drug me (Dead Kennedys) and for a smile on my face : Children of bodom's Oops...The band did a lot of fun covers, but this one takes the cake!
Type O Negative would be in my list 3 times with Paranoid, Black Sabbath and Hey Pete. All are very well done. Emperor should by here with Bathory’s A Fine Day to Die. Monnspell’s version of Depeche Mode’s Sacred. And of course Planet Caravan with Pantera.
Dude that moon spell cover is AWESOME. Great addition.
H.I.M.’s cover or Blue Öyster Cult’s “don’t fear the reaper” is another gem
