Yes Charles Schwab is FDIC... The Amex Charles Schwab platinum is fire too, they have a no annual fee version credit card too and both available to Schwab customers.

The Fidelity Debit card is also a good option. No fees domestic or international. Only 1% for purchases made in foreign currencies. But we all use a credit/charge card for those transactions anyway.
I love the no international fees, I use it as my main personal spending card, but more than that I love their app/site and the ability to add all external accounts, even the least common ones, including all your credit cards, to give your personal value. All your assets and liabilities in one single app, the best! I only wish it had zelle.

I applied yesterday for the checking account, they pulled my credit today just my Equifax score, I was approved for the account my score is 649 vantage I have credit history not necessarily all good, my income is higher than average and I own a business that may go into their decision making process

In terms of not carrying a debit card in your wallet, I've added my Chase debit card to my google pay and I use my phone to access the ATMs. I assume you can do that with the schwab debit card too? So long as the ATM you want to use supports contactless, you don't need to keep your debit card in your wallet

A debit card used as a credit transaction has the same federal protections as a credit card. If you use the debit card with your PIN then you lose those protections. So, if your debit card is stolen most likely it will be used as a credit card since the thief most likely won't know your PIN, so you will be protected. I recommend never using it with your PIN except at an ATM.
I love the reimbursable ATM fees! Do you know if you can deposit the unused cash back to the ATM - especially international currencies? not sure what do with all leftover cash

Fidelity is great for Index Mutual Funds, Mutual Funds, and their 2% unlimited credit card. However, they can't compete in the ETF department when compared to Schwab/Ishares/Vanguard.
I know late but. A hard pull is never OK opening an account of this nature. Not when other comparable or even better accounts don't do this. Sorry but this is a deal breaker.

Fund your debit card from a major bank account or liquid cash you have on hand...
I would start investing in Mutual funds to start off..
They also just updated their debit card design. Just report your card as damaged, and they’ll send you their new, slick redesigned card in the mail.

The checking acct is fdic insured. The cash in the brokerage acct should be as well but any securities you purchase are not.

It does not affect 5/24. You must hold the card. A hard pull does not do 5/24
