Nick has a point about Allen being talked about too much based on what he can be rather than what he’s accomplished, where he hasn’t won anything, and the Jordan comparison is pretty ridiculous. In that sense, he is prematurely overhyped. But it’s a bit rich for Nick to say that when he does the exact same thing with Trevor and Caleb. You can’t complain about the Favre comparison with Allen when you’ve compared Lawrence to Peyton Manning.
Reality is often dissatisfying
Nick constantly contradicts himself when it comes to these kinds of arguments.
Hard to blame him for not winning anything when he was 13 seconds away from being in the SB and likely winning it. Allen put up all-time great playoff performances that year. Blame the HC that for some reason even after that 13 second debacle gets no blame. No one even talks about Sean Mcdermott.

Free agency is not about being great, elite, etc. it’s about being FREE. Teams who are in desperate need of a QB will overpay for Dak. Raiders are going to hand him that much money just to get him there. Dak knows that in FA, he’d have a large market. I think he’s average, but he’s going to be free so it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks.

Brou's comp of Josh Allen as Phillip Rivers is spot on, and like Rivers hes at this point not a HoF QB, you win a lot of regular season games in a very weak division and you have no personal or team accolades to show. If regular season stats had meaning Vinny Testaverde, who when he retired was 4th in the all time passing yards, would be in the HoF
Josh allen has been a lot better from an epa/play standpoint than rivers has in the playoffs so it's not really a good comparison.
I wish they would bring up how nick always compares Trevor to Peyton manning when brou does the allen favre comp.
The thing is the Peyton-Trevor comp need more time because Peyton didn't win playoff games until his 6th yr or sm. In a few years, when trevor sucks, then he can be made fun of for that one. At least that's probably what Nick would say.

(And was used to be one of the top 10 highest paid athletes in the world,because the chargers would have been nothing without him)

Nick has strong arguments about Allen here, but he forgets that he's not a QB wins guy (and no one should be, tbh). Allen is a stud. He's a top three QB in the league and has been for quite sometime. Burrow's been to the SB, but he's also only had two great years. Lamar has two MVPs, but only recently has made a NFCCG. The other youngish QB's haven't sniffed a SB.
I never believed Allen is better than Mahomes. Mahomes to be is the GOAT, full stop. But I don't think Nick can successfully argue this point with his worldview. Still the pundit, at least in my best mind, on T.V., though.

two frustrating things here, Everyone gives winners the Jordan label but Jordan didn't win a lot early. Second Allen IS treated as if he's won before but he hasn't. He loses in round 2 and ends up the Super Bowl favorite in March some how.

@@mikep3813 And it was the year after the 13 second game (which was the week following the NFL's first ever perfect offensive performance in regular or post season by the Bills). When Gabe Davis looked poised to break out, Stefon still looked to be in his prime, and the core of the team was coming back and looking to improve in the draft. That season Buffalo had every right to be in that conversation and it wasn't out of place for them to be favorites. And in September they looked every bit the part, benching their starters with 3 or 4 score leads halfway through the 3rd quarter of the first 2 (or was it 2 of the first 3?). This is where the "September Champs" banner from Nick came from.
Gave Davis never lived up to the potential (though I think a lot of that is Dorsey not knowing how to use him properly) and Stefon has been inconsistent and at times invisible since. That September was the last time the defense was remotely close to healthy (even to open the next or most recent season several key starters were injured or still recovering from injuries such as Von Miller and Tre White).
I'm not sure if it's Josh himself, coaching (especially Dorsey) not knowing how to use the personnel, bad luck, or just the league figuring out how to play the Bills (probably some of each) but the Bills have neither looked like Super Bowl favorites or seriously talked as such since. They are usually in the conversation, and having only 1 loss in the last 40 games by more than 6 points kind of earns you that right to some extent, but fringe top 5 at best to open the season. This year many don't even have them winning the division, let alone the conference or the super bowl.

People forget that while the playoffs ultimately decide the champion, the regular season is a much larger sample size of a team's/player's ability. The playoffs are a great way to separate the greats to reveal who's superior, but that's not everything. I mean, it's kind of like a relief pitcher vs a starter. While it's up to the relief pitcher to close the game, the starter has to play well for seven innings as opposed to two, albeit two high pressure innings.

How are we still talking about Dak with no news on the matter? This is like the 15th segment on him and nothing has changed since the first.
"He's not patrick mahomes!!" thats literally why he hasn't won the MVP. He is the only QB that's actively compared to Mahomes and hall of famers and all time greats. Every other QB we watch and just get to appreciate them so at the end of the year we go "wow that was an amazing season" then give them pro bowls all pros and mvps. Allen though ends up not being Jordan, Mahomes, Brady level (but still great hall of fame level) and then we go out and dog him for not being the GOAT. Then he wins nothing because the entire media and followers of the NFL are disappointed in him and call it a let down year. This is the best Bills team in the history of the franchise by win percentage, he's blowing Kelly out of the water yet no one didn't give Kelly props. It's just wild. Especially when all he has had offensively is disappearing act Diggs in the playoffs and a head coach who can't coach in big games to save his life. Allen is basically a super hero in the playoffs having to do it alone. He's literally batman waiting for the rest of the justice league to show up and they never do.

What doesn't get talked about enough is winning attitude. I remember 4 years ago thinking Mahomes and Lamar were equal physical talents but when KC's defense let them get 10 or 14 points behind Mahomes looked like he loved the challenge. Lamar hung his head. Josh is like Mahomes except his influence only helped the offense. The Bills defense let him down. Caveat, two excitement caused fumbled snaps.

As a Bills fan. Nick is more realistic about the Bills. I agree with a lot of his takes on him and buffalo. I do however,think he'll get into the hall fame. Lamar's mvp last yr shouldnt of went to him. Lamar's 1st was unanimous.

@brianogrady3185 my point has nothing to do with the Allen Elway comparison. My point is MVPs are a QB only award and shouldn't be a measure of a QBs overall ability. They are often given to QBs even when undeserved even when historical seasons have been accomplished by skill position players. Think Kupps triple crown in 2021 or Hills 2,000 yard pace last year that was only derailed because of injury.

Some of these guys are taking 25% of their teams cap space, that’s unbelievable for literally ONE guy. Even for QB, the most important position in football by far, that is too much in my opinion.

Players get paid based on the market not how great they are, the QB market pays ridiculously high, and several teams are desperate for a solid QB. Dak is just good enough to demand a big contract he's not better than some of these other QBs but he is absolutely going to make more money than QBs who are better than him. 65M may sound crazy but I guarantee a QB-desperate team will absolutely pay that so fair or not Dak is getting his money lol.

The media has to constantly make it seem like Allen is worth the praise to distract from what the media did to Lamar during the draft process which is why he slid and Allen went number 7. Media was suggesting the Heisman winner coming from a pro-style offense in the ACC should convert to WR. At the same time, the media was hyping up the 59% completion percentage turnover machine from Wyoming who wasn't on the radar to start the draft process. Stuff like this reminds you how sports isn't just about talent and accomplishments.
