The difference to the Neewer is enormous! I expected they would be identical under the hood. I remember on the Neewer video that the grill was totally opaque, do you think the grill could account for the difference?
I'm thinking that my Neewer is either defective or just way out of spec compared to other examples. I've now herd a few of them on YT reviews and they all seem to sound better than mine. I think I got a dud 😐
I would say that the $20 more from the cost of the phantom power supply you could get the UM2, the UM22 costs nearly $70 now. The point is still valid though getting the interface would help more than anything with the cheaper mics, but it will also help if/when you upgrade. My upgrade was to a new, to me, Beta 58a that I picked up for $40, well and a couple of SM48's and a Shure SM58 wireless setup LOL.
Agreed! Although Sweetwater does sell the UMC22 for $49, but yeah I've seen those things priced all over the place on Amazon and Guitar Center. I guess the days of them being $39 are over, anywhere you try to find them. And $40 for a Beta 58A is a great deal, nice find!
I have this mic and I've not used the XLR to 3.5mm cable that it comes with. Instead I plug the mic into my Alesis io2 interface using an XLR to XLR cable and use the 48v phantom power. Do that instead of trying to use any of the USB components and you'll get a much better quality. It's comparable to much more high end mics with just a cable swap and an interface with phantom power as the sound input.
Weird my old NW800 sounds closer to the Zingyou than your NW800, I wonder if maybe there is something off with that mic then? I would say that neither the NW800 or the BM800 are really designed for singing or instruments, they are more geared towards spoken word. At least that is my take on them.
That makes me wonder if I just got a dud or something. The reviews on Amazon are pretty positive, and I can't imagine that many people leaving 5-star reviews for something that sounds like mine!
@@YHRS Probably, the users are the quality control testers. (i.e. they probably send out everything they make or most, and thus a few things at the ends of the bell curve go out)
Good question! I'll plug it back in this weekend and crank it up to see. I didn't notice any excessive noise during this test, but I only spent an hour or so with the mic. I'll try compressing it, layering it, and see if it starts to sound noisy.
Ha, I agree. The Neewer is destined for either Goodwill or the trash. I'm not sure I'd want to curse anybody that would end up picking it up from Goodwill though!
You can easily mod them with noise reduction and larger capsules. Of course you can get one with a larger capsule already: www.amazon.com/dp/B077M8WR4G
I don’t know if I’m alone, but I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the sound for a cheap mic
Please how did you set it up. I’m struggling to get it to sound

@@YHRS It is a quaint moment when something is so cheap we can't even tell if it's defective.

The sound of the cheap one looks great to me for that price.
GOOD comparison vid Tad. Thanks.
Thanks Ray! I hope your new digs and room are coming along well!

You are the best 🎉😊
Perfect timing, need a mic for Talk Back from my live room to the control room, is there much floor noise? I would probably have to crank it up a bit

Great vibes !
Paid $10 for mine from ebay, its all I would pay for it.
Throw the Neewer away. That BM800 though wasn't that terrible. For 36 bucks you could get a pair and maybe they'd be good as room mics or something.
