That's awesome. I'm going to make a Kraken Drive powered play-through. I've just built a cigar shaped kraken drive power SSTO with a massive crew capacity (well massive for a mk.1 SSTO as small as it is). Although I messed up because I tweaked with the max extension of the hydraulic cylinder meaning it's impossible to make 0 thrust without messing with the docking force. I think I'm going to build and test a number of designs between the Junior docking ports and the Senior docking ports with various amounts of thrust vs weight, then save them all as assemblies to attach to craft as I build them.
Very very cool stuff - thinking of finally making some stock WWII aircraft that actually look good utilizing this - cosmetic propellor, kraken drive under the hood 0:
i had a go at trying to make a K powered plane that could be throttled more smoothly so i had a pair of drives next to each other mounted rigid, with no piston so they always made the same force, and had them mounted on a swivel so at full throttle they would both face forward and accelerate the craft, then at zero throttle they would turn 90 degrees and face each other and cancel out their forces. this didnt work perfect, it would still make a VERY slight amount of rear thrust so it never could actually STOP accelerating either forward or back so i couldnt time warp. also it wasnt just one pair as that didnt make enough thrust, so i ended up with like 30 or 40 pairs in a long stack of the big mk3 cargo bays (im not a fan of part clipping so it didnt cross my mind to make an exception in this case since we're cheesing the docking ports anyway)
alternatively, you can use inflatable docking ports instead of pistons. ( for those who doesn't have breaking ground, or just make things more simple.).

i like to think that the kraken drive is the kerbal equivelent of anti gravity, you know how sci fi space ships can seemingly break the most basic law of physics which is gravity itself, well they might do that, but they still depend on alternative propulsion to move around since they always have engines in the back of some kind, so i guess you could set up a kraken drive to be just as strong as gravity it self but not too strong, and only allow yourself to do it when you have gathered all of the science that is possible to get, so its like a new discovery
I am currently using 1.11 on a PC. The option for "Docking Aquire Force" does not show up, nor do most of the other options. Why is this? (edit: OH SHIT nvm I need to turn on advanced tweakables)
In my version of ksp i cannot adjust the force of the docking ports, also the thrust limiter of the ion engine, and in the mod kerbal electrics i have no reactor control panel, so i cannot turn the fission reactor on making it a useless piece of scrap... also i cannot change fuel tank content which makes some tanks useless. can someone tell me why? is something missing or is it the game version? it was 1.4.5 i guess
I want to say yes, but I'm not 100% sure the docking acquire force slider shows up for console players. The number of ports just scales the force you get though so if you're not going to ssto with it you don't need as many
If you left click the symmetry button, it changes the count. If you middle click it, it changes the mode (in both editors). So you middle click the button until it shows a round dot rather than square, then left click it until you have the count you want
Hi How are you, Very good video. You know I would like to see you bring a comet into kerbin's orbit using a device with this propulsion system if you could.
In the main settings page (i think its the one from the main menu, not the one ingame) you have an option to activate advanced tweakable. imgur.com/TZpyS3r
You can do that by putting a controller and assigning docking acquire force to throttle. By this way you can get drive to actually obey throttle and do it without moving parts
Yeah actually, you just set all the ports up statically and then use the "docking acquire force" slider on the target port as your throttle. As far as I know there's no way to map that field to an axis so you have to throttle it by clicking but it would technically work
Eh, honestly, kraken drives are infinite fuel, but very low thrust. I think I mentioned editing the .craft file to improve the thrust somewhat but the max you can set the acquire force to, even via text, is 1000% and 5x tiny is still tiny tbh. That's why my kraken craft are so small
Afaik the "docking acquire force" slider isn't available on console, so unless you're brave enough to crack open your saves and text edit the craft file I don't think so :(

Nice, might try it with less ports so my FPS stay above 20.
If you edit the .craft file to increase the docking force above 200 you only need a handful
