    EDIT: By popular request, I've put all the recipes for these smoothies in the description! This is how I made mine. If you take out all the 'special' ingredients you could probably make them for MUCH cheaper... I bet they'd still taste amazing too... if not better!
    What do you guys think about these smoothies? Would you ever buy one? Take the time to make one?

    To add further insult to injury, their nutrition stats aren't even accurately portrayed. Many of these contain maple syrup, such as the Skin Glaze, which should be listed as an added sugar. They seem to be trying to sneak past that despite maple syrup being naturally derived and not nearly as processed as cane sugar, it is still considered an added sugar and should be labeled as such. I promise you, they're not all that.

    • @adammiller9029
      @adammiller9029 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It should not be labeled as an added sugar. Its food that contains sugar and therefore should be reflected simply as "Sugars" under carbohydrates. That's literally how nutritional labels are meant to work. Its supposed to state in simple terms the amount of sugar in product, regardless of where it came from.

    • @MB-yl9hm
      @MB-yl9hm 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      @@adammiller9029 Maple syrup is considered to be an added sugar, as is honey. Maple syrup is not a "food," it's basically sugar water. Like it's literally comprised of 60% sugars (mostly sucrose) and 30% water with 0% fiber and negligible protein. It's something you ADD to other foods and don't just eat on its own, thus its classification as an ADDED sugar. The sugar from something like dates is not counted as added sugar because a date is an actual fruit, you can eat a date as a snack if you wanted. Dates are 60% sugar (pretty evenly split between fructose, glucose, and sucrose), 20% water, 8% fiber, and ~2% protein.

      It's probably the same since she used the same ingredients. The recipes have a ridiculous amount of saturated fat. They could reduce the calories and sat fat by not putting a boat load of coconut in. They also don't need to waste money on maple syrup to add sugar. They just do all this because it has an air of "health" about it even though you're still going to raise your cholesterol and type 2 diabetes risk consuming these regularly.

      fructose is a monosaccharide just like glucose. It is not healthier just because it's natural (glucose is natural too by the way).
      Normal household sugar is just a kind of mix between glucose and fructose. So no your mango sugar is not healthier than any other sugar. But the overall nutritional value of a mango is of course higher than that of a piece of cake.

It's wild that you had to call & wait for them to email you the list while they kept asking you why you wanted to know the ingredients. Fun facts on food pricing: grocery stores sell smoothies and fruit juices to get rid of food that doesn’t look good enough for the shelf any more. For example if you’re in LA there’s maybe 50 max wholesale food suppliers and from that there’s maybe only 2-3 companies max distributing the strawberries for example, and underneath that is maybe one massive aggregator for farms that distributes to all of them. So for example if I bought a case of 12 boxes of strawberries for 1.50 a box and sold it for 6.99, if I self 2 boxes I’ve recovered my cost and then some. So the margin on the fruit for a smoothie (which is the left over fruit frozen) is 100%+ for every item. So the $8 you spent for example is actually not representative of the actual (which is maaaaybe $2.75 per smoothie) and so if they sold it for $19 then they’ve made almost 8x profit actually. And as well all of the natural ingredients (spiraling, hyaluronic, collagen) are basically in negligible quantities and for example Hyaluronic acid has no effect if you eat it.

    The general recommended markup is 30-50% for food kiosks depending on whether or not they are specialty (all natural, organic, vitamin enhanced, etc.) and local minimum wage for employees. That considered, the prices aren't THAT outrageous for some of them. I guess it's a matter of whether you can justify spending that amount for one shake. 😬
