  • Just a very basic, entry level introduction for novices to learn about the basics around pipe thread tapes and pipe thread sealants.
Featured in this video are products from Blue Monster, Hercules Megatape, Hercules Megaloc, Rectorseal 5, etc.

For Shower Arms - what about Oatey Fast Tape (3.5 mil density) and/or Merco M77 (3.5 mil density). Merco also claims to have a Blue-Monster "killer" called Perseus.

I’m sure both of those products would work excellent, honestly any of the “thick” teflon tapes seem to work mostly the same. They’re all far superior to the very thin ones

Edit: No it’s not natural gas/propane safe!
Is the blue monster rated for natural gas/propane?
    Edit: It Is!

Thank you for your comment, however YES Blue Monster IS safe for natural gas and propane.
I have both the Blue Monster tape and Blue Monster dope in my hand as I type this. On the label on my Blue Monster tape it literally says “For use on threaded metal pipe joints in assemblies handling natural gas and methane, propane and butane and other petroleum distillates”. If you go to Mill-Rose’s website (the company that makes it) it states for the tape it can be used on water and liquid petroleum gas, natural gas, propane, kerosene, ketones, petroleum solvents, etc.
As far as the Blue Monster pipe dope goes, my can im holding (and their website) says right on the label it can be used on natural gas, propane, gasoline, etc.
Mill-Rose (Blue Monster) DOES make a yellow “Gas” tape but they clearly state its produced to be used in locations where local plumbing code requires a yellow color tape for gas. Its for compliance based on color, but they clearly state their blue tape can be used on gas too.
Also, my roll of Hercules Mega Tape says right on the front “Gas & Water lines” and on the rear lists all approved susbtances and includes natural gas and propane.
Thank you for your comment but im not sure where you received that information but it is false. Blue Monster IS natural gas/propane safe.

@@SimpleMindReviewsWell I googled it but I guess the link I read was wrong. You’re correct it lists the common gasses right on the label.
I liked the idea of gray tape though and picked up some 1/2” cool gray JACO ThreadPro PTFE thread sealant tape and it feels like it’s the same thickness as the Blue Monster. My Blue Monster roll is also 3/4” which makes my joints look like a DIYer did it. I’m a DIYer but I don’t want my work to look like it!
      Thanks for the video!

No worries, I was just correcting that for anyone that reads this looking for help. Isn't it incredible how much better these tapes are than the cheap white generic Teflon tape? They really do work 100x better and until you've tried them it's hard to describe.
Blue Monster recently came out with a "Silver Seal" tape that's silver in color to match the modern chrome / nickel / brushed stainless style fittings in homes. I'm keeping my eye out for it.
Thank you for your comment and for the new tape recommendation!
