Very well said bud. Icarus is good fun. 7 Days to Die got a big update and if you run your own server Rust is great but you have to be the owner because the problem with Rust is the kids and the Toxic players making it impossible for grown ups to enjoy but if you can control who plays on the server it can be a great experience. I will tell you when Scum is back to its old self and Puppets don't teleport in from Mars anymore ; ]
@@reconc4t 7d2d is fun but they have a weird zombie spawn system too. Sometimes you'll see them hanging in the air out in the distance, then when you get closer they drop down and become active (you'll notice this more on high pop servers). The saving grace is the quests, when you trigger a quest at a poi it resets it and puts all the zombies in. Also, you can build the just about anything you can imagine and manipulate the terrain. And lastly horde nights are awesome.
If the puppets only spawn when your in an area, it kinda makes scoped rifles useless. You cant snipe puppets from distance because you see nothing. A cleared area should remain cleared.
It is one of the biggest issue in the PVE playstyle I prefer. You can't shoot them in a bigger range than 100m and now this "new" spawning system even messed it up more. You can't even clear an area, can't use tactics and so on. Furthermore there isn't even a basis for this type of spawning in the lore. Like "beamed up puppets" xD I don't have an issue with puppet not always visible but if they come to existence 3ft away from me it is a mess!
@@HealerMommy1 lady you are so wrong. Look at the game files and you will see vanilla spawning distance isnt "close". You can snipe zombies from 300m away from a town youve never been in. I will accept that servers can change the spawning distance but vanilla spawn distance is pretty far.
Its been longer than just since 0.95, server owners have been screaming for devs to listen for literally years. I've played SCUM since 3 days after release and have been a PvE only server owner/manager the entire time, I put several thousand hours into the game over the 4 years from September 2018 through to the end of 2022, spending most of 2021-2022 giving feedback to the devs as to the issues we were having as server owners and it almost ALL fell on deaf ears. I have BEGGED with Tomislav and other devs to give server owners a heads up to any changes they make, even if it is 24 hours before the update drops, just so we can prepare and modify settings if the need is there, again, nothing. The reason I was given was they don't want to share the changes is in case we will tell people. FFS, why the secrecy? I have asked for plain language explanations of the settings and got NOTHING, instead we have a Discord group of server owners muddling through the settings trying to figure out what works and what doesn't, but as soon as we get on top of some settings, they change something in the background making the hard work, absolutely useless. Because of the absolute disgrace of communication from the Devs, since the beginning of 2023 through till now, I would be lucky to have spent 200 hours in the game, and the times I have, it has been to test settings when I change them. I've lost any desire to give feedback to the devs because they just don't listen. They may ask for it, but they never do anything with the feedback. It's pure lip service. The population on my server has gone from over a thousand Discord members with a couple hundred regular players showing up a few times each week and 20-30 players on most of the time, to my partner and I spending 4 hours on the server over Saturday evening (previously peak time) to try and resolve the puppets spawn issue and not one other player joined in. So I'm at the point that it would take very little arm twisting to make me outright quit the game, shut down the server and walk away. Its a sad tale, I'm sorry to say. But do you see it getting any better, I don't and I highly doubt anyone else does too.
Man i feel with you, here is the excerpt from my Discord i made for my Scum-server and why i was shutting it down: "The Scum server will be shut down from December 27th, 2023. The reason for this is that Scum is increasingly developing from survival to a standard looter shooter. The final blow was the decision to spawn hordes now. Who cares more and more about different weapons, skins or other bullshit. Apparently the developers are unable or unwilling to develop the PvE elements. It's always a bad sign when developers focus on artwork, new locations or something similar. This suggests that 99% of the time there is a lack of software developers (coders) in the development team and/or the vision of what the game should be has been lost." My aim was to create a real Survival experince people could themself immerse into. I set the Zs spawnratio to 5/3 (outside/inside) at a 100% spawnprobability, the respawn timer of Zs to 40min wich gave you enough time to clear and loot. Even the respawntimer for loot was set to max (5h). PvP damage for all Guns had been dropped to 10% Except Bows, Melee and Hand to Hand. Loot amount for containers was default and for exteriors was set to 1.5. I was so excited when they stated the Zs will become capable of now entering and exiting buildings through windows and doors. A feature i've been waiting for sooooo long (wich should have been implemented as one of the first features anyway). And than they added the new spawn system too, what a crap. So my expectation was to get a simulation like Flight-, Tank-, Ship-, Car-, u name it simulater but in a kind of post apocalyptic simulation as a Human. My scepticism grew when they implementet more and more crap minigames i.e. the damn shark that prevented you from even thinking about Freediving, changing spawning on ground to Skydive. unnecessarily implementing new Robots and Bunkers, Radiation, and again more Weapons and Ammo, and Razors (including new minigame), the hunting minigame etc. And the developers best reasonig is allways their argument "because of performance." The truth is, you can't play with a HDD, you NEED a fast SSD or better a NVME. It's not about the GFX card. I have a 3060 and running at around 80 FPS by 2k max settings. I even did 40 FPS with my old 1050 at 1080p and NVIDIA sharpening on, and good visual settings. Regarding performance: On my server i went into the big city, and there were massive amounts of Zs active arround me, i was not able to push the serverload above 2 - 3 %. So the reason to blame the server load is in no way valid. The only reason they use this argument is, they don't want to be honest with the requirements needed for the gamers PC. I could go on with my Essay a couple of more pages, but i leave it here. I lost all patience with the Devs and where the game went over the years. And NO, it's not EA when it's 5 years in development. They wasted so much time with adding garbage and completely neglected what was promised in their vision when advertising it on steam. Cheers and greetings from Berlin Germany
You say no pve development but say hoards was reason for shut down in the same sentence. Its not the hoards, (tho they do need some work and to remove the beepers from them) its the regular spawns/ encounter system that is broken
I had high hopes for this game... but like so many other titles, they get popular, then they get too focused on "fixing" what isn't broken, instead of fixing real issues.
Because devs are fucking stupid and can't do anything right to save their own life. Can't wait for Ai to do all this shit so we don't have to keep holding out hope of these pathetic devs
DayZ has dynamic player spawns yes, but it does it in a far more realistically and understandable way. eg. Towns are pre-populated, player spawns start +500m, and player re-spawns are dynamic AND location based +150m rather than dependent on limited specific spawns points be used over and over. What this means: You can scout towns from +1000m to determine if players are around - You can effectively clear Town interiors for long periods of time - Zombie encounters feel more "realistic" as re-spawns are dynamic/location based meaning you can effectively "clear a town" but still encounter roamers that will enter town from the surrounding woods. Most importantly, zombies wont spawn inside houses behind you cleared 30 seconds ago...
WE NEED THESE VIDEOS!!! I’m glad we’re all standing up. Sadly they said they’re not getting rid of hordes only fixing it 😢.. they half ass listened.. we want OLD spawn system
I totally agree, I bought the game back when they introduced motorcycles (don't remember which that was). I have 839 hours logged, (I only play singleplayer) and was the best survival game I had played. I bought the supporter packs, and the hair style packs. I won't buy the character dlc's I personally believe they are pay2win (my personal take). I choose to vote with my money, so I will not be buying those. After countless battles on the Scum Steam discussion with DeathWhisper and a few of the super "Scum Dev's can do no wrong fanboys", in regards to the puppet system. Was mostly met with complete disregard or just straight up hostile against anyone that speaks against their holy grail. I finally threw in the towel Feb 1, and with heavy heart I uninstalled Scum. Really sucks, they simply will not listen. I hope we can get through to them, but I highly doubt it. They seem very set in their current path of self destruction.
As an offline single player, these days the game is either deserted and no challenge whatsoever or if you visit certain areas you will simply die. A year ago single/solo was a vastly different experience.
I’ve enjoyed watching various people play SCUM and it’s sad to see such a decline in game quality over the last 6 months. It’s gone from gritty survival with a nice blend of strategy and risk/reward to an arcade game with teleporting enemies. Sounds like the devs need to clean house and refocus before the magic is lost for good.
I used to pull up in a field by a gas station, throw a flare to gather the puppets, shoot the beeper then clean it up with my scoped hunter 22 from a distance. Now you start pumping fuel then they all spawn around you on the run toward you. Scopes are useless now unless it's in pvp. Puppets dont render at a distance you need a scope. In a bunker i can clear a hallway go into the armory, close the door loot and in that time the hallway fills up with puppets again. Also puppets spawning in a closed door room you just cleared.
i quit playing scum after 2000hours. it took the wrong way like you showed here. if i want to play pve, it makes no sense to scope puppets with sniper-weapons. because they are not there. i can´t clean an area for my mates as a skilled sniper, cause puppets spawn radius is weird. also i don´t like the horde-system. i miss the good days, where you increased multiplier and saw them straying on open fields, woods and cities. since 0.75 the game is getting more like....i don´t to say it. the good times are over and it is boring, senseless....
Totally agree. I've 3.5+k hours in this game and it is definitely not what it used to be. The new puppet system has totally destroyed the realism. I only log in to move vehicles, fix the base and occasionally go looting lol. The only reason why Im staying is because of Wilkseys community broadcast.
I've got about the same hours 3.6k+. I've been loading the game mainly to keep the generators running for the refrigerators. I finally got my deadeye and bullets courier Steam achievements. Never cared about achievements when I started playing the game. Now I'm a little over half way getting the fighter achievement. I've just recently got serious about using a bow. Other than that I'm still looking for a large generator and a Chinese sword. Found them before .95. Haven't found a single one since .95.
A big part of the problem is the Devs live in an echo chamber. They have a policy of cutting all ties with You Tubers who do anything they consider negative. The result is there is a crowd of You Tubers who toe the party line and kiss the Devs back side. These content creators will not say anything negative because they fear being cut off from the Devs. So all the Devs hear are the Fan Boys who simp to no end. Mr. Raykit is a prime example. However that is changing it seems. Wardog has come out and complained and he was another that toed the Devs line for years. Up until recently the only two to complain at all were Luthais, who spent years straddling the line. The other, who never toed the line, is Nordwulf. No I am not including reconc4t in either group because this is the first video of his I have seen.
Raykit is the worst influencer for Scum since years. But unfortunately he seems to be the one Devs prefer the most. No matter how unimportant, counterintuitive, useless, unnecessary, gamebreaking, stupid, flawed a feature implemented is, he allways sold it as "so exciting". This guy made Scum becoming a scam. Raykit "We get another new weapon with more different types of Ammo and we can now even spray em and the new Robots, and even more minigames, i'm speecheless. This will catapult Scum into even more super duper." Me: "Yeah Raykit, you go Brandon."
I think this my 3rd "wtf are you doing" video lol I never posted one before because up until this 0.95 update I truly was enjoying the game and felt they were on track.
I'm not a fan of the horde system, not as it currently is. I was in a POI compound and a puppet was stuck in some wood pallets which I couldn't shoot, and of course it called a horde. Then you've got the bush wookie puppets that also spawn hordes. It's really not fun. What should happen is; have new puppet types with higher tier loot that stay around around military bases and bunkers that can spawn hordes, regular ones shouldn't be able to. it doesn't make much sense. But the new puppet types could wander around at night beyond the bases. This would make night exploration both dangerous, fun and rewarding. Right now, it's just not working.
I noticed that only smaller channels are calling out the destruction of the game. The big ones still pretend everything is fine. I don’t subscribe to them anymore.
I used to really like the animal hunting when the game first came out but then they changed to the hunting mini game sorta dynamics that just ruinined it for me and not wanting to hunt to survive takes out the survival aspect of the game for me. Plus I totally agree with the respawns, its rediculout for the puppets. It also takes forever to level up lock-picking and certain skills that are required for the more intense stuff like killboxes. I stopped playing before they brought the plane and truck back and I still won't play until the NPCs show up. It's been so long overdue.
This used to be the only game I would spend my time on. Now I'm not spending any time on it. The Encounter & Horde systems suck as implemented. Give Road to Vostok Demo #2 or Incursion: Red River a try. They aren't hardcore survival, but they are tactical looter.
Yeah, it's just backwards. I believe no puppets should spawn in the "circle" and instead have an outer circle that spawns puppets 300-400m away. Because, even though the old system was better, it still broke when puppets respawned after 15 minutes. So if they can't spawn when a player is nearby, that would solve the problem. To counter players who would sit in bunkers, they could simply make loot non-respawnable if a player is nearby as well.
This finished me on Scum. It's just counterintuitive, and makes a mockery of stealth and using scopes or binocs to scout out a location first when you can still get jumped and cornered by 3-4 sudden puppet spawns.
spawning animals was an immersion killer as well.. i enjoyed hunting up until they removed animals and only made them spawn.. not seeing them naturally.
Yesssssss I am glad to see someone else who thinks the same on that topic. I loved hunting in Scum. Even though they *sort of* put spawning animals back in, it is not the same. You're still reliant upon the immersion-breaking, ghost-chasing, animal vending machine known as the Hunting Mini-Game 🤣 You can't even track their footsteps anymore when they flee, and I swear the animal audio changed because it is like it lacks the positional/distance thing it used to have. Such a tragic downgrade in that area of the game.
@@reconc4t its not just the animals.. puppets spawn in a radius around the player now as well. And quite a close radius. So if you see a town in the distance and scope it out you wont see anything walking around in it anymore from a distance. They have proper messed up the immersion to save performance
Yep I have decided to wait until 1.0 before playing scum again, it is not worth the frustrations with trying to play it now. I hope that the dev's fix it by then
@@reconc4t And I hear what you are saying about the content creators, I do not hear any of the ones with a in game item say anything bad about the game, I will not speculate on what they could have in the contract for the in game item but maybe they do not feel that they can say anything bad about the game. just my opinion though ....Also what ever happened to Fooster's machete I have not seem it in Scum for ages it was Fooster who got me into Scum so I was happy when I seen it in the game
@@malky8065Not every content creator with ingame item worships SCUM no matter what. My favorite one was JayW who played almost only SCUM and he did it perfectly for my taste - tactical PvP in Samobor. His love to the game started to drop since devs added dense fog in the city. Then they started to block key buildings leaving less and less places to hide and use a room. In the name of optimisations, of course. Finally a big change in puppet spawn system or, like I like to call it, a final nail in the coffin. In result I can no longer watch Jay playing SCUM. He moved on months ago to Tarkov. Not sure his 1911 still spawns in the game, but he didn't sign last NDA hence probably doesn't need to say what other big streamers say. I decided to give devs a chance to rectify current situations. I'll wait till 1.0 and ditch SCUM permanently if there is still no immersion. I'm not getting any younger and living in a dream is not what I want nor I have time for.
Well said and nice to see someone stating this based on PVE play style. New system is killing scum, killing immersion, killing tactical gameplay style and killing the fun/enjoyment. Just ran a bunker with a mate and not 1 puppet spawned (official settings) yet walk through a town and they appear in front of you. Just bad system. But devs seem to no longer care about the players
Scum WAS one of those games that really made you hopeful that such a robust and in depth game was being developed for the survival fps genre. But the more you play scum you start to gather its shortcomings and terrible design choices. The puppet system is just one of the glaring flaws in this game. The metabolism system is still barebones, the puppets still glitch around, teleporting and going through walls and floors, no pvp balance, bunkers are basically the only pve content, because when you look at farming, hunting, fishing you just ask yourself, why? I find what I need in single military poi visit. The balance is horrible all around in this game. And like you said the devs are just off in their own world with their sycophants (Tying shoes buying views) so I highly doubt this game is going to get any better because one thing I've learned about slav devs is they are so conceited, they will advertise "developed with community feedback in mind" but that's just a selling point for them because they have it in their mind exactly what they want and no one else knows better than them.
New puppet system sucks. The world is either empty or there are puppets spawning right behind you. It's bad either way. Also puppets have no weight to them now. When you kill them, they crumple like paper, extremely immersion breaking. Instead of climbing through a window to reach you, they just sorta float through it with a half assed animation, like they have no substance. God it's so bad. I just can't understand this at all. It's literally mind boggling.
SCUM used to be my go-to game and I have over 1600 hours invested. The reason I stopped playing is the bugs and questionable features. I got tired of updates breaking things and bodies and gear disappearing. Then they added airplanes to the game, which was basically it for me.
I only had the bodies disappearing glitch once shortly before 0.95. Everything else has always worked pretty well for me. My only gripe since I started playing has been these puppets getting jacked up
SCUM was for a long time the only Game I played. Now I have SCUM not even installed on my PC.Reducing content was bad, but the actual situation is unbearable. I see no way they go to 1.0 and people are happy. The PvP part of the game I don't know. I do not play PvP.
It seems like this issue been ongoing forever i know loads of people who stopped playing scum and its ppl with 1000 and up gameplay hours they need to fix it if its not to late already
I stop playing this game after that patch that ruined for us me and my wife and friends stop playing because of the big problem with the puppets, we didnt even finished clearing a bunker when the puppets spawn right away and all your ammo is gone so you spend your ammo that took with you and all the ammo you find inside.
I hear what you are saying and do agree. There are 1 or 2 server settings that will improve it a lot. It won't solve both of the 2 main issues you mention, but it will allow you to clear an area and not have constant re-spawning puppets. I run these settings on my server and it makes a huge difference. EncounterCharacterRespawnBatchSizeMultiplier - Set to 0 EncounterCharacterRespawnTimeMultiplier - Increase this setting also, I have mine set to 100 If only the Devs had these as default settings, we would all be in much better shape.
Thanks for posting those settings bro! I'm going to try singleplayer with the World/NPC settings on default except for: (a) your settings applied to the "Encounter Character" expression; and (b) ALL of the "Encounter Horde" expressions set to 0.0. I would like to have a system that approximates the way it used to be (I last played in October 2022). Any sense if the settings I describe above will "fix it" to my liking?
I recently reinstalled SCUM and played with some friends on the Milk server. I had not had the game installed since 20 October 2022 and I had logged 772.5 hours of play on my Steam account at that time. I reinstalled because some friends were playing and I thought it sounded like about time to get back to it. I have one friend who has played the game probably in the ballpark of 3000 hours and the other folks are basically new. They had a base built at the Lighthouse in the southwest. The first thing that I noticed (and this was corroborated by all of my friends) is that the physics on puppets seems broken. The seem to phase through objects, and exhibit little micro teleportation that can cause a swing to miss when it clearly should have hit. They also have unrealistic reach with their unarmed melee attacks. There was one situation where a puppet was stuck under a platform at the base. Because there was a rock in the way I could not get close enough to hit him with my katana; but he did hit me. This exact same thing happened to two other people with that exact same puppet. It seems that their ability to bust through doors and jump through windows has made them: (a) less rigidly governed by the collision rules in the game (thus the thing with them showing up under a base platform with their had and shoulders penetrating through the floor); (b) bestowed with special combat scripts that allow them to hit players even when the player (with a longer weapon) cannot hit them from the same location. Melee combat with puppets feels less realistic than it used to. The second thing we noticed (and this may be largely a result of the specific settings on the Milk server) was: when we arrived at the junkyard a couple of times there were a lot of puppets there and we cleared them and things settled down. Then, as we lingered there for a while we had fairly large waves of them attack again. These waves would attack as if they were converging on a loud noise but this happened without any substantial loud noises having been made. In the past, you could get large numbers of puppets converging on a location in either an aggro or an alert "looking for a fight" mode, but it was pretty much only as a result of loud noise. Now it seems that: if players linger in an area for long enough (and perhaps moreso if there are multiple players) then you will get "hordes" descending onto the player location even if there was no commotion to attract them. We also noticed this same thing at the base at the SW lighthouse. Another interesting thing I noted was that: in the past, there were puppets scattered loosely all over the island. If you just ran blindly through the woods you'd eventually run across either some puppets or some wildlife. This doesn't seem to be quite so prevalent now. Also as you observe in your video: POI locations appear to be barren from a distance, but then puppets will be there when you get close enough.
Basically every aspect of the puppets it's literally and totally broken. And yes the eliminated the "wild" spawns making the woods and field Basically dead and empty
I 100% agree. This system is killing the game. At least we need a clear statement from the devs. What is the direction they want to go with it. The base community is leaving the game because the game is for to long in this state without a good communication from the devs about it. Devs, please talk to us, like you did in the past. If this is the price for server performance so 100+ players can play on them, I'll renounce of it. 100 players is anyway to crowded on a server.
Stopped playing SCUM too It’s boring now. The Puppets have always been bad for hit boxes and they glitch sometimes when you attack them. Now the new Z system is awful. As soon as they got them jumping through windows and opening doors (WTF) it ruined it for me. Z’s opening doors is just wrong. Now they spawn direct on you- wtf. Not sure what the Devs are thinking and why implement this crap. Ruining your own game
I just saw this video pop up, and though I don't fully agree with you, I have stopped playing as well. I don't mind the spawn system for coming into an area, but the continual spawning is broken for sure. I have around 6k hours, but lately the game is unplayable on my rig. The constant drops in fps, vehicles disappearing, stutter while driving...... it really kills the immersion as well. Let's hope that some new survival games are on the horizon, and I look forward to checking out your content.
A lot of customisation will have to be introduced for me and many other people to be on board with this system. I want to see the game succeed. They seem to be starting to listen...we will see
They can only keep track of so many items via the type of database and the game has so many items in game on the map they have to resort to this kind of trickery. Now they only have to keep track of what is around the player not the entire map. Its a performance issue. They have painted themselves into a corner with hordes. I don't know how they can fix it, if they even can. The complexity of all the parts and pieces they have to keep track of in the world has just pushed the system to far. Notice this started with the "Optimization" of Sambor ....They just removed most of the interior buildings that you can go into. Optimization means I have to take something away from you to give your this or that. In the case of puppets...well the hordes would over run the server loading in...so they take away the standing puppet system we had before whereby puppets were in game static and went to a player proximity based dynamic spawn. Fewer in world static puppets to keep track of to just spamming puppets around an active player. Dress it up in fancy words like "Horde System" or "Event Manager". Going to get worse with the TEC1 NPC drop ships.
I'd like to join the online servers, but I don't wanna be messed with. You would think that a game like this people would want to work together and build a community on a server
The horde system is amazing! If your character can't sneak, then the puppets will find you. The puppets spawning that close to you in buildings or behind trees.... you wouldn't have seen them anyways. The puppets spawning in your radius area, won't aggro if you sneak is at least basic and you aren't carrying a trunk full of loot in your hiking backpack. If you don't put any skill points in sneak, you will always attract them.
Well said! Gamepires has needed new leadership for a while now and the proof of that assertion is; This isn't the first time they've tried this idiotic tactic for the sake of "server performance". Newsflash, boys; It doesn't matter how well the damn servers run if the experiences of a significant portion of your player base are being negatively affected by a severe lack of meaningful content, nonsensical and glitchy enemy encounters and bugged features and mechanics that have gone unaddressed for several months, or longer! It's amusing to me that the majority of players still don't understand what the primary problem is here. It's not the myriad of broken features and mechanics that many of us are currently complaining about. These are merely symptoms of a much deeper and perhaps, sinister problem. It's pride, pride and arrogance on the part of those who ultimately decide what changes and additions see the light of day in this game. The creative stranglehold on SCUM, that has been evident for a long time, is finally being acknowledged and discussed by those who have insisted for years that "the devs know what they're doing". Right... a company that chooses to release an untested and unvetted game feature, just before departing for the holidays for several weeks, leaving their customers with little to no hope of bug fixing or any other kind of support, and after 4 months has STILL not rectified the issues driving away many of it's players, knows what it's doing. Give me a break! Need more proof? Alright, take a good look at the Steam forums and read some of their robotic, uninspiring and dismissive replies to player inquiries and criticisms since the release of 0.95. Just be sure to keep a barf bucket handy, if you do. Your move, Gamepires.
You aren't wrong. I think they MIGHT be starting to figure it out though...hopefully. we will see what the next couple dev updates are like. This last one was one of the first times they have admitted there is at least a problem.
@@reconc4t "The first step to solving any problem is recognizing there is one." Maybe that recent community address will be the game changer SCUM needs, pun intended. But, Gamepires doesn't have much time to make this right because not only has it failed to compete with it's current rivals, there's also new and more advanced competition on the horizon. I agree with you, by this time next year, if they haven't drastically altered course and heavily improved the overall experience, this game will fade into obscurity, like so many others have before it. The ball's in their court.
100% agree, so you can add my name to the ever growing list, of people who aren't happy right now. I have over 10,000 hours though, so can't complain. I run a server too, so I have to be around for that at the moment. But I DON'T really "play" the game anymore sadly.
Good to see that I am not the only one who feels like Scum is lacking lately. It was a game with great promise, sure, but that was many many years ago. These days I struggle to find any fun on that huge empty map. I would say I hope they fix that when they go into 1.0, but honestly I doubt they ever will. (reach 1.0 that is...)
I 100% agree that we need to have the ability to snipe puppets from 200 meters away if not more... the Devs removed the old system because trying to load a huge amount of puppets would cause lags.. The best possible step they can currently make is.. keep puppets inside buildings spawn distance at 50 meters.. as it is now but leave puppets from the streets at 200 meters.. and when we kill them do not respawn them until a certain time has passed.. without depending how far the player is from that location.. for finishing touches they could allow puppets to spawn for more than 200 meters towards a direction we are looking at with focus mode and depending what our awareness skill is the more distance it should load during focus mode for sniping Other than that they should bring more base building elements and improvements like having a garden on our balcony if we choose to.. and glass windows.. possibly electric lights will be good for the night.. a fireplace or a bathtub and a toilet that actually functions since we have poop mechanics.. I would also love to see some underwater diving gear and maybe some points of interest in the middle of the sea.. maybe even some underwater ones as well so the diving gear has some extra use.. other than that bring the old aninals back so we can see boars running in the forest or rabbit even a chicken and lets not forget about birds... the shotgun shells felt highly valued against birds and i always enjoyed watching them fly around.. the place was feeling more alive... big changes are needed towards medical system and some fair changes towards player movement.. I can see the game potential and i liked it but i know full well by now the Devs will prefer to watch it all burn than to admit they made a mistake sometimes.. i just hope they realize it before its too late
So the way I look at this is not an issue with the spawner system. It's actually quite a clever resource saving system imo. However, the settings for aspects of the system need to be adjustable by server owners/SP mode. Functions that we DONT have. For example minimum spawn distance from player, maximum spawn distance from player, puppet respawn cooldown timer and puppet cooldown radius from player. Or alternative to last two, a simple cooldown timer for complete poi areas With these settings the spawn system would be greatly improved and customisable. Again, in my opinion
It helps a lil by going through the settings and raising the noise or settings specific settings to 0 so the "hordes" don't spawn. It helps a lot actually. Get rid of the horde spawns and raise the NBC spawn higher than usual so it feels a little better instead of popcorn zombies
In defense of the devs "We" the community wanted optimizations and the old system was not working or causing lag on the servers. While I hate this as well I "hope" this is only a temporary fix till a permanent solution is found I too feel its not immersive. The devs no longer give the community a voice since Jagex became the parent company. Notice Tomislav doesn't even post on twitter much and when he does he shows off pigs... In my opinion they should just revert the change but it isn't going to happen because Jagex isn't in this for YOUR satisfaction. The changes in the game play and the game direction is now their decision. Eventually it will be released as a full game that we was promised one thing, the direction was one thing and then it will turn into a massive lawsuit. We didn't buy the game for every little detail to suddenly change and make worse. I supported this game and its just... sad that it is being ran into the ground. Well, see you guys in Dayz or something else.
That's unfortunate. I encourage everyone to leave feedback on the devs steam page or on the SCUM discord. They dont get enough and think everything is honky dory
for me the bigger issue is just the lack of content... they just aren't adding enough stuff to keep meinterested... I make a base , get decent kits "5-6" and a vehicle or two and..... Im bored.... and I dont bother with PVP because my internets NOT stable enough for me not to lag in PVP fights
Man I first left SCUM because the zombie spawns became so boring but would almost rather have the way zombies used to spawn in their same stagnant spots everytime then all the random close proximity respawning everywhere. I think it was changed when they tried introducing hordes and to stop players from driving through a towns to despawn zombies to turn back around and have free roam to loot. But this is horrible, some how they need to incorporate it better with the old way and just use this for the hoarding to form up.
I recently tried to play scum and I honestly couldn’t even get a start and I couldn’t figured out how or why, every time I was fighting like 10 puppets and all the sudden a horde will show up and absolutely mob rush me, mind you ai’m a fresh spawn with a new bow and an improvised bag, tried like four times and couldn’t get a start, so I stopped playing, legitimately far too frustrating and flat out not fun, combined with the shitty looting system makes it unplayable. It’s like theres two good spots on entire map to loot and if you know them you are good, but if you are new and exploring you’ll literally spend 5 hours finding “nothing,” it’s mind boggling.
People have been leaving the game for a long time. I was in during initial early access and with most updates, there was always a handful of updates to further degrade the game. I can't remember a time when the devs ever cared about player feedback and so instead of steadily improving it has only steadily degraded. Everything they do seems to make it more unappealing, rarely... if ever, improving. Now I see that since I last played they've added a bunch of skins, and yet the game is still in early access. The game is in a perpetual state of Early access and will probably end development before it officially launches.
Nobody (Players) have any control over how the game will develop, sooner or later when so many people walk away that is the Death Bell for the game, I believe this game is Hungarian and the Devs may not care when the numbers are jumped, the puppets have become an issue for player's clearing a town is ok, but the puppets have to re spawn for players that follow you.
All we would need is Server to Cliënt and not Cliënt to Server , wich means , for example, sharks should be swimming in the ocean, if you decide to cross the water , there is a small chance, and thats what i call survival ,that you could actually make it to the other side. But since its Cliënt to server , the shark will be (spawn in ) there because you are there and you are 99,99% doomed.....
I played DayZ for right at 10k hours, and started playing scum, and I really think this game is great. The survival skills, loot and so on. But yeah, the puppets have been f up. It's the one part I hate and will probably end my play if this game. I didn't know until I saw this video WHY they were always spawning like this, always seemed to be right on me, or I shoot one with a bow and 10 more come running at me, out of no where and you can definitely not melee fight them off without crushing punishment for it. They are over powered AF, you shouldn't bleed every single time one hits you. But them being so op wouldn't be so bad if the spawn system wasn't f'd. And like you said, I clear the town first , start looting and seconds later they are all back before I can loot one building... I'm still playing ATM, but I'm pretty sure my time is going to be very short with this game and I hate it bc I love everything else about it.
Ive had scum since 2018 , been a discord mod for the offical scum discord but i will never touch scum again after the stuff i saw happening , the devs only listen to the blue eyed boys in the test discord which i also quit , Scum was a great game until the 0.5 patch hit then it went downhill fast and then the hotfixes came thick and fast , Deleted scum as a game a little over a year ago and wont be back and probably the same can be said for the rest of the player base , scum killed itself sadly .
Could this be why nothing has got done for 3months. 🧐🧐🧐 Carlyle Agrees to Sell Jagex to CVC Capital Partners and Haveli Investments London & Cambridge, UK, 9 February 2024 - Global investment firm Carlyle (NASDAQ: CG) and CVC, a leading global private markets manager, are pleased to announce that CVC Capital Partners Fund VIII and Haveli Investments have agreed the acquisition of Jagex, a leading developer and publisher of video games.
Last day i played scum was the .95 patch day. Ive watched my favorite youtubers say "theyve fixed the spawns" and im thinking, "this is fixed?" as i watch them have zombies spawning in rooms they just went through and cleared. Whatever weed they smoke i wanna get my hands on some....
I play DayZ. The zombies spawn in from a much longer distance and once they are killed, the bodies remain there for a set amount of time. This could be fixed by the devs with just a little bit of coding. I would never buy this game.
I have played a lot of dayz. The zeds spawn at about 200 meters depending on server lag which is pretty perfect in my opinion. SCUM is spawning them in at about 25 to 50 meters in best case and in some instances like in this video about 10 meters.
Damn, You saved me wasting money on this. I love DayZ and wanted to switch to something new and I really loved this game from videos and such, but this kills it. Good job.
if you fire ONE shot 10-15 puppet spawns around you, you are dead, well guess who just lost few hours of life and sneaking and looting?... makes looting and gearing up pointless because if you use firearms, 10 puppets spawns on your location and you use all your ammo (which you looted for days) in matter of seconds or die. Also, this way you can't fight exhaustion, because to fight it you need quality food, and to have good food you have to hunt, and to hunt you will use weapons...so the horde spawns around you in the middle of the woods and you die...circle of pointlessness...rly a shame, this game was so promising i thought i will not need another game
They addressed the community on why they haven’t been listening, their not trying to excuse their selves they just want us to know their side of things and they addressed the big problem of scum which is the hordes and how it’ll be fixed in the next update which is great!
With it still being in EA I just can’t do a vid on the encounter system,I could of after 48 hrs when it dropped as I was saying what everyone is stating now,as messed up as it is atm it’s not finished so it’s a little unfair imo to cast any negativity on the game while in EA as it will get sorted out at some point, I’m keeping really positive though 👍🏼 it hit my server big time but it is what it is I guess
I salute your positivity - early access is about players providing feedback for the developer. It's becoming 'negativity' because its seemingly being ignored, in favour of yet another cosmetic dlc.
The lead developer has stated that this is how the spawningsystem will be in the future. So no, it's not an early access problem. They fucked up the game...
I would agree if tomislav wasnt telling people to get over it and that its how it will be whether we like it or not. Part of EA is listening to community feedback and making changes. Even if it means going another direction. clearly we are against this direction.
@@MaxMozin-wr2ds Ive been saying from day dot its not going back and being in EA is not the problem, neither is the game itself fucked, its the encounter system that's not functioning right and it all ties in with the NPCs that are coming, when released if its still the same then fair enough for all the negativity,if it drops and the puppets are working fine with the NPCs and Ive been shitting on it i would feel like a total bell end for doing it, everytime we log in it stats there could be issues as its in EA, people need to relax
All my friends and I have completely abandoned SCUM. I have played 1700 hours untill 9.5 update. I used to play up to 30 hours a week, over the last 2 months I played 0.0 hours. Why? because the game is garbage now. Plus I really don't like the idea that the game wants my infomation and activity to sell.
I agree. I have played 5x less in past year and one big reason is puppet spawns. First i noticed that puppets started to spawn in rooms i cleared in bunkers just few seconds ago. Thought it was server settings / servers fault. Now i have played 2 more servers and same thing happens and it was getting worse. Whole "horde" thing is even worse. I dont like it at all.
Ya. A lot of people where mad that I "made the puppets too hard" when in fact I had to change them to basically vanilla because they are so bad. My server used to be exciting and challenging....now it's lame and like a fish In a barrel arcade shooter
This sort of spawn system would be out of place in most games, aside from shmups where one of the hallmarks is overwhelming odds. Like i commented in Luthais' video, I suspect the reason we're stuck with this system is due to system performance. When you consider that long-range, scoped weapons are basically useless in pve, it starts to make a certain kind of sense that it's less taxing on a system to "just spawn" NPCs rather than use up resources rendering them in at range (like you'll see in other games like DayZ and Deadside). This is just my suspicion, though. Nobody can say for sure because of one of Gamepires' most significant flaws: communication (or lack thereof). My heretical notion is that Gamepires should basically go back to the drawing board and reconsider every system and feature in the game, because I don't think it's an issue with coding, I think it's an issue with features. SCUM's metabolism is unique and seems very in-depth, until you realize that lacking vitamins or minerals doesn't really have any adverse effects other than your immune system. If you're not going to suffer from scurvy when your Vitamin C is low, then what's the point of tracking the stat? And if you do introduce actual illnesses as a result of malnutrition, how much is it really adding to gameplay? I'd argue--not that much. Games of this kind aren't meant to be simulators. Another cheap win might be removing lootable containers. There's a lot of calculations going into randomizing container loot--every puppet, container, mattress pad, etc. These are two features that seem endemic to SCUM, but I respectfully suggest Gamepires should really go back and ask some tough questions about their value if system performance is an issue. Because it sure isn't an issue to render enemy NPCs with actual tactical routines at long ranges in Deadside, and they have a dev team a fraction of the size of Gamepires. Sorry for the wall of text. I've loved the game, but it's hard to get excited to play it these days. I hope it changes for the better. Thanks for the vidoe!
@@reconc4t True. Although their concern may have been more forward-looking, as they knew they were still planning on introducing additional systems (like armed NPCs). Anticipating the additional load, so to speak.
I would be 100% on board with that. They don't necessarily have to revert to the old way but they have to do SOMETHING. It's terrible. Still is to this day
your video didnt really show the issue with vanilla settings. Even at the PD, they spawn as you arrive and out of sight. to me that's fine, yes it makes scopes useless on scouting a town, but that is a minor issue to me. The main issue is the reoccurence of the spawns you cant ever clear an area. They just keep being replaced near by each time you kill one, and that is not about leaving an area and returning, areas like PD's or Fuel stations other POI's and ofc bunkers. Leaving and returning needs to be fixed too, but honestly, I could live with it. you usually just have a loot path you take not really going back and forth to the same places when playing. MAIN issue is kill one, another starts walking out of a bush close enough to see/ hear you if triggered and it creates this forever stealth bow meta which is quite tedius, even kill one and the sound of looting in a building will draw its replacement spawn, sometimes with a hoard too. Devs or at least the one steam moderator that talks for them who is not a dev, keeps saying its not a problem and better this way etc as there is constant threat. The think is, its not about challenge its about tedium, constantly sneaking and using the bow when in the past melee was a viable option. You are not going to try melee a player (you might if no other option) but this forcing the bow and sneak.. what is now even the point of melee? Hordes are not really an issue if it was a one time spawn in population in a town, you clear it and get about 20 mins till they return. Now, kill one another appears instantly. So with melee you will just keep triggering hoards as its not as fast as the bow. Bow is cool but it should not be forced on us, arrows should still break like in the past so its a ranged option. The switch from 3rd to 1st person with bow should also act like guns with simply toggling ADS, not having to hit enter..
Great points all around. I have hundreds of hours playing the game and I haven’t played it now for probably a little over three months I guess? I can’t stand both the puppet spawning issue and the horde system. It basically makes the game a bow and arrow game. That can be fun for a while, but then why have all sorts of weapons if you can’t use them because every time you do, you initiate a horde. I played several sessions where I would use a weapon against a puppet and that spawned a horde. Fine. I would deal with that horde, however, a second hoard would spawn right afterward and this repeated over and over again along with the “regular” puppets respawning in the same areas I just cleared (exactly as shown in this video). I feel like hordes should be encountered within the world such as roaming in fields or forests or through towns versus spawning randomly over and over based upon how much noise you’re making. Or maybe a little of both?? As I’ve said before, it sometimes feels that the creators and developers of the game are not playing their own game; otherwise they would see these issues and correct them.
It's really a bizarre way of making a game and I'm really not sure what they are thinking. It's just not going to work and SCUM will just join a long list of games that could have been great but missed the mark.
@@reconc4t For quite a while I considered SCUM the best game I'd ever played. However, I started noticing that things had gotten worse so I searched and watched several videos to verify what I'd been seeing...or perhaps I was just "seeing things." To my amazement, I found quite a few people experiencing exactly what I had. With that said, what I found truly compelling with your presentation was your showing the spawn markers and how spawning has been programmed. That really made the issue a "visual" one so we can really see what is going on. Well done! Thanks!
Agree with you 100%! Return the game to what it was in 2021 then I would remove it from Hidden in my steam library and install again. A bunch of us bought into the premise in 2018 and played now all those guys I was in a server with are playing other popular games. I had good times playing on U.K. based servers PVE only.
AGREE!!!!!!!!!!! Ive been playing since .5 and this patch .95 is UNPLAYABLE as a solo player...not fun or immersive. Id rather play .9 until they work the spawning out. That said I haven't given up and am looking forward to the puppet fix (which the devs said will come "soon" with the next patch) and then the NPCs being added. Ultimately as a solo player Id LOVE a mode that put me against say 24-49 NPC prisoners and its last man standing - giving each play through a goal of sorts. Competing for loot/food with the other prisoners, everyone is an enemy, GOOD zombies, military NPCs, mechs etc....that would be EPIC IMO. As far as hordes go the more immersive version would be for a PACK of zombies to spawn instead of one like the old system and we could see a "herd" moving across an area and have to be extremely careful or be well armed to engage.
Suppose it is to save on server strain? Wouldn't the puppets have to be a persistent asset to do it another way? In my mind, that would cause severe server lag in a populated server.
They could implement a server wide spawn limit like DayZ does. If enough players happen to be spawning them in, then they simply stop spawning until the numbers come back down. This works very well on DayZ, and I've only ever seen the zombies stop spawning once in years of playing. I think it's a misguided attempt to conserve server performance yes. The puppets have never been persistent. You could watch them spawn in if you knew were to look. But the distance was good and you wouldn't really notice.
I had a server for 3 years. Got sick of listening to the constant lies of what they are working on and going to do. Its a pretty game, ill give it that. past that, its just boring.
2 days ago i reinstall the game and uninstall it in the same day because of this stupid spawn system where multiple puppets suddenly spawn right infront of me in police station
Glad I went for DayZ on a spring sale instead. It was a tight race, but the modding community helped make the sale. Unfortunate situation for y'all. Hope it gets better.
They need to roll back the puppet and animal spawning/tracking back to 0.80 and leave it alone. 😅 Scum was my go-to game, and I loved hunting in it. In both puppet and animal terms, the world feels so dead now. I just can't immerse myself while chasing ghosts in the hunting minigame that delivers an animal in front of you. Can't snipe puppets from outside town. Can't look for the footsteps of a fleeing animal..... The magic feels gone. Imagine if they had a 0.80 Legacy Server...
this lighting hurts my eyes.. what have they done to the graphics of the game... Like, it's supposed to be sunny, the sky is bright, but everything looks so dark and contrasty as if there's an overcast. this all looked 100x better few years ago... like that PD should be bright gray not dark ... so weird... EDIT: ok I got it.. camera exposure is totally off.. some games miscalculate the values.. Scum seems to be also the one.. This looks like I'm playing the game with 2 sunglasses on :S
@@reconc4t no it's definitely camera exposure + too much contrast. I've tested it and it looks so much better. It's like around 1PM and sunny on your game. I don't know why game devs often mess this setting up.. maybe has to do something with auto adjusting of ambient occlusion, but still, hurts my eyes... they need to fix it. Indoor spaces are too bright , outdoors is too dark. Definitely looks like a problem in values in ambient occlusion.. not to mention how that stupid snowy "mountain" throws me off in the middle of the summer..
Great video that is showing the issues with the current puppet system! And I fully agree, it does ruin experience. I hope this is being looked into and eventually being solved in one way or another. I've got no issues with something being tested out but if it's obviously not working and even driving players away from the product something should be done about it
I agree that the devs need to fix what they have, instead of adding new stuff, and removing stuff to make way for the new ones, I am a 1700hr vet who also loved the game but have not played for over a year now
Feature creep is real and happens to many smaller game studios. The best thing they can do now is revert the spawning system and then continue working on the vehicles and survival and FPS mechanics. The mad drive for new features and systems is killing the game off. They have been in EA for 6 years so any illusion that they have endless time to make this game into their full vision is misplaced. Unreal engine 4 is old and gets older every month. The clock is ticking before something else comes along and blows them into obscurity.
I crouch walked into shooting range and suddenly 4 spawned all around me. Gave me the shits and cost me alot of handy early life gear from the last 3 or 4 hours of walking about
this kind of game also shouldnt be turned into a shooter game..., this is a pure survival game, players against zombies, mechs, wildlife and environment ! period.
Got to say that the future isn’t looking bright for Scum atm, I’ve been playing this game for a long time and personally I think it’s deteriorated over the past 2 years. This new puppet spawning system is total garbage and what’s concerning is the total lack of communication from the devs. I’ve been doing the same as you have in this video and it’s shocking how bad it really is, the speed the puppets are spawning on the player is a disgrace and after 5 years they have left it like this. I’m starting to think that these reworks they have done is in preparation for the console release, it feels like a console game atm, restricted and not immersive at all. Thing is it’s not just the spawning of the puppets it’s how badly it’s executed, they are being spawned in the walls under the floors and it’s not until you enable the puppet locations that you actually realise how many are actually out of the play area, some of them are coming up out the floors, walls and seem to be beamed into toilets and cupboards even though you have just cleared them. The hunting rework sucks as well, it makes no sense at all and again it feels like something from a console game. Respect to yourself, luthias and the small minority that are voicing their opinions and telling the devs the way it is, I’ve noticed the usual brown nosing bunch of TH-camrs have stayed quiet, raykit for one. I hope the devs take notice of you guys and see sense but I’m not getting my hopes up, I doubt it will get modding support after 1.0 because imagine the shame when the modding community remove all the garbage they have added and make the game the way it was intended, I can’t see it happening but we will see.
Modding may very well be the only way to save this game. Another would be creating sperate builds. One for PC with the old puppet spawn mechanics and another for console as you say. It does seem like maybe they want to dumb it down for console
My son stopped playing this about 18 months and he tried it the other day on my PC and he said the same fact same thing you did, that it feels like it’s been dumbed down for console. You are right though, modding is the only way this game will stay active.
In addition to the Chinese bot servers, the rampant hacking on official servers kills my enthusiasm to compete. When they cheat, run alt accounts to limit their fame loss. Most kills i get are worthless compared to the fame i risk. I've not even bothered having a base or chests hidden due to cheaters.
i used to pvp a lot, have 10k hours in dayz (90% pvp servers) and almost 3k on scum (95% pve servers). if im being honest cheaters are rampant in every game right now, tarkov, dayz, scum, cod, apex, you name it, cheaters are going wild right now. since 0.95 i pretty much stopped playing except for whenever a hotfix comes in ill go try it out and hope something is changed. i was a hardcore player when it came to scum, i loved servers with 0.5 loot or even less, 5-10x dmg and boosted spawns. i love a challenge but this system is no fun and is the most lazy thing they could come up with. scum made me so mad with this update that i went and bought tarkov and started pvping again. so now im back to dayz pve servers and tarkov when im feeling in the mood for pvp. atleast in dayz the zombies will spawn in like 500 metres away and hunting is actually enjoyable so my immersion stays in tact. scum has a lot of great features that make pve so versatile but if its at the cost of immersion i am out. you should try playing dayz in the mean time, there are some great pve communities out there.
@@reconc4t depends what your looking for in terms of difficulty. if you want a more hardcore challenge i play in 28 winters later or 28 monthz later, winters being the harder of the two. these servers has no traders, loot is very scarce so getting started isnt easy. willow glade is a nice server i play from time to time, still has a lot of challenging things about it but has traders so the gameplay loop is a bit different as it more revolves around finding loot thats worth money kind of like scum in a way. you can use the money to buy vehicles, helicopters or even rent a locker to store some important loot. there are many great pve dayz servers out there, sometimes the really good ones are just hard to find.
0.95 the worst update Scum made ever.... They spent a lot of time making DLC and they don't fix the game.... In no more time, the people will leave the game if they don't fix it quickly.... 100% with you.
It is a sorry state of afairs. Gaming in general is not gaming. But revenue generators. I have givin up on any new release that gets me excited. Been gaming since 1980.
With ALL the complex metabolism - can someone tell me what's the point? I thought they were gonna take all the vitamins etc into account for real effects, as it's one of survival basics, taking care of your character. You should have more impact of the character, sicknesses etc as even lot simplified Day-Z does well. I just feel nowadays all the BCU stuff is just for the show, nothing really matters. Let me know if you have died of hunger or thirst in the game?
hi there i also agree with what you have said about scum, ive been playing this game since day one, put in over 7000 hrs run a Pve server for quite a few years which i have now canceled , dont enjoy the game anymore.i may not be back which is a shame
I think they may be starting to see the point we are making. Their tune has changed a bit this week but they still are insisting on keeping this system but claim they can fix it and make it work...I'm not holding my breath of course
I'm embarrassed to say I've never tried 7 days. Guess it's time!
@@reconc4t I tend to swap back and forth. I've only ever played 7D2D solo though.
@@kyleh4733 I'll have to check it out
@@reconc4t 7d2d is fun but they have a weird zombie spawn system too.
Like "beamed up puppets" xD
I don't have an issue with puppet not always visible but if they come to existence 3ft away from me it is a mess!
its same on Dayz though yall clearly don't play zombies only spawn when a player is nearby
@@HealerMommy1 hell no, Dayz areas Stay Clear after you clear them - at least for 30 mins
@@HealerMommy1 lady you are so wrong. Look at the game files and you will see vanilla spawning distance isnt "close". You can snipe zombies from 300m away from a town youve never been in. I will accept that servers can change the spawning distance but vanilla spawn distance is pretty far.
Ya I'm very confused by her comment because it's simply not accurate. I've been back on dayz for about a week and the zombies spawn miles away
True
Man i feel with you, here is the excerpt from my Discord i made for my Scum-server and why i was shutting it down:
"The Scum server will be shut down from December 27th, 2023.
This suggests that 99% of the time there is a lack of software developers (coders) in the development team and/or the vision of what the game should be has been lost."
My aim was to create a real Survival experince people could themself immerse into.
Regarding performance:
On my server i went into the big city, and there were massive amounts of Zs active arround me, i was not able to push the serverload above 2 - 3 %.
Truth
I wouldn't really call Scum popular. It might have licked the Popular Popsicle, but as soon as that happened. It all changed
Because devs are fucking stupid and can't do anything right to save their own life. Can't wait for Ai to do all this shit so we don't have to keep holding out hope of these pathetic devs
Unfortunately the puppet spawn is only ONE major problem Scum has right now... 😞
funny thing is all dayz has zombies same way as scum I find it funny yall crying yet don't know ur shit
They are demonstrably and completely different. I can make a video showcasing the differences if you like?
@@HealerMommy1 Nope it does not, its always funny how much some Scum players hate Dayz lol
Exactly. It's a good time tested system and works flawlessly. Dayzs engine is old and limited, and yet they have made it work well.
WE NEED THESE VIDEOS!!! I’m glad we’re all standing up. Sadly they said they’re not getting rid of hordes only fixing it 😢.. they half ass listened.. we want OLD spawn system
This
I totally agree, I bought the game back when they introduced motorcycles (don't remember which that was).
They will see. It's only a matter of time
As an offline single player, these days the game is either deserted and no challenge whatsoever or if you visit certain areas you will simply die. A year ago single/solo was a vastly different experience.
Agree!
YES! exactly. its like a shiny arcade game now! no immersion, almost a button masher now (figuratively)
Exactly.
i quit playing scum after 2000hours. it took the wrong way like you showed here. if i want to play pve, it makes no sense to scope puppets with sniper-weapons. because they are not there. i can´t clean an area for my mates as a skilled sniper, cause puppets spawn radius is weird. also i don´t like the horde-system. i miss the good days, where you increased multiplier and saw them straying on open fields, woods and cities. since 0.75 the game is getting more like....i don´t to say it. the good times are over and it is boring, senseless....
It's very bland now for sure.
Totally agree. I've 3.5+k hours in this game and it is definitely not what it used to be. The new puppet system has totally destroyed the realism. I only log in to move vehicles, fix the base and occasionally go looting lol. The only reason why Im staying is because of Wilkseys community broadcast.
I feel for wilksey. He had a such a good thing going on with his server and awesome community
This will catapult Scum into even more super duper."
Me: "Yeah Raykit, you go Brandon."
I think this my 3rd "wtf are you doing" video lol I never posted one before because up until this 0.95 update I truly was enjoying the game and felt they were on track.
@@reconc4t glad you did, kudos
@@berlinerfreitext2027 who or what is "Brandon"?
I'm not a fan of the horde system, not as it currently is. I was in a POI compound and a puppet was stuck in some wood pallets which I couldn't shoot, and of course it called a horde. Then you've got the bush wookie puppets that also spawn hordes. It's really not fun. What should happen is; have new puppet types with higher tier loot that stay around around military bases and bunkers that can spawn hordes, regular ones shouldn't be able to. it doesn't make much sense. But the new puppet types could wander around at night beyond the bases. This would make night exploration both dangerous, fun and rewarding.
Right now, it's just not working.
cool idea

I noticed that only smaller channels are calling out the destruction of the game. The big ones still pretend everything is fine. I don’t subscribe to them anymore.
Ya. The big channels. They are the ones that get invited to all the events, free merchandise etc etc. Of course they aren't going to screw that up lol
Yeah, sycophants! It's ruining the entire industry, lol. And for what!? A free trip and some assorted merchandise? People will sell out for anything.
It's the same with most games: wait til modders have fixed the game.
Hopefully more people tell the devs that they aren't happy with it.
Luckily that's changed now. Had 4 puppets chasing a chicken when i went to a cargo drop.
This used to be the only game I would spend my time on. Now I'm not spending any time on it. The Encounter & Horde systems suck as implemented. Give Road to Vostok Demo #2 or Incursion: Red River a try. They aren't hardcore survival, but they are tactical looter.
I've played both vostok demos. It has a long way to go but they are on the right track!
Also being able to check a town from a distance to see dead puppets. They seem to despawn really fast.
True. Good point
Haven't played SCUM since new years practically, this is a mess right now and I'm not comin back till it's sorted.
Hopefully soon. I can't believe they don't see what's going on.
Agree
This finished me on Scum. It's just counterintuitive, and makes a mockery of stealth and using scopes or binocs to scout out a location first when you can still get jumped and cornered by 3-4 sudden puppet spawns.
spawning animals was an immersion killer as well.. i enjoyed hunting up until they removed animals and only made them spawn.. not seeing them naturally.
Yesssssss I am glad to see someone else who thinks the same on that topic. I loved hunting in Scum. Even though they *sort of* put spawning animals back in, it is not the same. You're still reliant upon the immersion-breaking, ghost-chasing, animal vending machine known as the Hunting Mini-Game 🤣
You can't even track their footsteps anymore when they flee, and I swear the animal audio changed because it is like it lacks the positional/distance thing it used to have.
Such a tragic downgrade in that area of the game.
@breceeofficial you would be surprised how many people feel the same
@@reconc4t its not just the animals.. puppets spawn in a radius around the player now as well.
I hope that the dev's fix it by then
Hopefully they see the obvious and revert this puppet nonsense before 1.0
@@reconc4t Maybe, but aren't they going to use the current spawning system with the new armed NPC characters as well that could be disastrous
That's the plan...jeez. imagine how terrible that will be. Jank NPCs with aim bot lol
Exactly. It doesn't work for this kind of game.
I anxiously await the next competitor! I'm so bored with DayZ and SCUM but nothing yet compares to them!
Don't forget they'll jump 10 ft in the air for no reason
Ya. People who are just discovering scum don't seem as bothered by it. But even they say it's jank and needs to be fixed.
Yeah a lot of us have given up on this game :( It's so sad because I think it had the most potential out of any game in the genre.
I'll keep an eye on it and keep covering any changes but you may be right
I stop playing this game after that patch that ruined for us me and my wife and friends stop playing because of the big problem with the puppets, we didnt even finished clearing a bunker when the puppets spawn right away and all your ammo is gone so you spend your ammo that took with you and all the ammo you find inside.
I hear what you are saying and do agree. There are 1 or 2 server settings that will improve it a lot. It won't solve both of the 2 main issues you mention, but it will allow you to clear an area and not have constant re-spawning puppets. I run these settings on my server and it makes a huge difference.
EncounterCharacterRespawnBatchSizeMultiplier - Set to 0
EncounterCharacterRespawnTimeMultiplier - Increase this setting also, I have mine set to 100
If only the Devs had these as default settings, we would all be in much better shape.
Stopped playing SCUM too
It’s boring now.
They seem to be starting to listen...we will see
Maybe if we get the Chinese player base to complain about the Encounter manager on Steam they might listen.....
Jump on some Chinese servers they have puppets completely off. They play for the pvp. No survival game there.
There are servers like that. I have a server but with the state of the game it's pretty dead. Check out simply survival or skinny Pete's.
Glad you are enjoying it !
@@reconc4t Thank you. Me too
I'm actually a fan of the horde mechanic.
With spawn system like that it makes scoped rifles pointless
And binos too which funny because the last update gave them variable zoom....its like a bad joke
100% agree, so you can add my name to the ever growing list, of people who aren't happy right now. I have over 10,000 hours though, so can't complain. I run a server too, so I have to be around for that at the moment. But I DON'T really "play" the game anymore sadly.
I'm in the same boat. No will to play as the game is currently but still keep my server afloat
The best possible step they can currently make is.. keep puppets inside buildings spawn distance at 50 meters.. as it is now but leave puppets from the streets at 200 meters.. and when we kill them do not respawn them until a certain time has passed.. without depending how far the player is from that location.. for finishing touches they could allow puppets to spawn for more than 200 meters towards a direction we are looking at with focus mode and depending what our awareness skill is the more distance it should load during focus mode for sniping
Other than that they should bring more base building elements and improvements like having a garden on our balcony if we choose to.. and glass windows.. possibly electric lights will be good for the night.. a fireplace or a bathtub and a toilet that actually functions since we have poop mechanics..
Excellent points
So the way I look at this is not an issue with the spawner system. It's actually quite a clever resource saving system imo.
However, the settings for aspects of the system need to be adjustable by server owners/SP mode. Functions that we DONT have.
For example minimum spawn distance from player, maximum spawn distance from player, puppet respawn cooldown timer and puppet cooldown radius from player.
Or alternative to last two, a simple cooldown timer for complete poi areas
With these settings the spawn system would be greatly improved and customisable. Again, in my opinion
could be a start
Idea: Once the cool down timer is done, the game calls in a horde at least to make it sound like they're taking back the town or looking for you
I think the noise threshold is a good idea..when it works properly. We also need more control over when and how it triggers
@@reconc4t I'm sure it'll change over time...
@@HighDiver5555 probably a big performance hit. Dunno. Cool idea tho
They destroyed this game. I've been playing this since .4, and they have ruined this.
It helps a lil by going through the settings and raising the noise or settings specific settings to 0 so the "hordes" don't spawn. It helps a lot actually. Get rid of the horde spawns and raise the NBC spawn higher than usual so it feels a little better instead of popcorn zombies
Could you possibly elaborate a bit on those settings?
My excitement for scum died as quickly as it lived. literally stopped playing it a week after i got it.
I think the same.
I will watch what content you produce. And if they fix Scum so much the better. Thanks!
Much obliged my friend! And thank you for the 10. You are a legend!
The devs have taken notice. Hopefully they listen to the players!
Never understood why a dev team would let a few loud people steer their entire game
Could this be why nothing has got done for 3months. 🧐🧐🧐
Carlyle Agrees to Sell Jagex to CVC Capital Partners and Haveli Investments
London & Cambridge, UK, 9 February 2024 - Global investment firm Carlyle (NASDAQ: CG) and CVC, a leading global private markets manager, are pleased to announce that CVC Capital Partners Fund VIII and Haveli Investments have agreed the acquisition of Jagex, a leading developer and publisher of video games.
Veerrrryy interesting
Last day i played scum was the .95 patch day. Ive watched my favorite youtubers say "theyve fixed the spawns" and im thinking, "this is fixed?" as i watch them have zombies spawning in rooms they just went through and cleared. Whatever weed they smoke i wanna get my hands on some....
Bunkers seem better now but everything else has a loooong way to go
I play DayZ.
Devs just destroyed it. Running 1h to get close to supply drop, and suddenly you realize there are 4-5 puppets behind it, isn't fun.
Damn, You saved me wasting money on this. I love DayZ and wanted to switch to something new and I really loved this game from videos and such, but this kills it. Good job.
I would still buy it and decide for yourself. If you hate it you have 2 hours to decide to return it.
@@reconc4t You are right. Good tip. I'm stupid. 😀
Don't listen to me bud. I'm just a stranger on the internet lol. You might love it...plus they may fix our concerns. You never know.
@@reconc4t Roger that. So it makes us two strangers. Keep it up.
if you fire ONE shot 10-15 puppet spawns around you, you are dead, well guess who just lost few hours of life and sneaking and looting?... makes looting and gearing up pointless because if you use firearms, 10 puppets spawns on your location and you use all your ammo (which you looted for days) in matter of seconds or die.
I have a video coming on this very subject tonight....with my opinion added of course 😉
5 years is not EA anymore, it's far beyond EA.
I agree it's a performance loss mitigation tactic. I don't however believe that the previous performance of the game was bad enough to warrant it.
@@reconc4t True. Although their concern may have been more forward-looking, as they knew they were still planning on introducing additional systems (like armed NPCs). Anticipating the additional load, so to speak.
i think they need to mix the 2 together so they spawn and a few are there allways wandering and make the spawning circel way bigger for the snipies
Completely agree they nerfed the spawning of puppets really bad.
It's crazy. I don't know what they are thinking.
Well done!
Thanks!
I hadn't seen anyone do it that way so i thought it would help people understand what we are frustrated about.
Agree with you 100%! Return the game to what it was in 2021 then I would remove it from Hidden in my steam library and install again. A bunch of us bought into the premise in 2018 and played now all those guys I was in a server with are playing other popular games. I had good times playing on U.K. based servers PVE only.
They are losing the plot. Honestly I'm almost 100% sure it's jagex meddling
Ya. I need to do a video on their latest statements regarding puppets and my current thoughts
Please leave feedback to the devs on steam. Not enough people talking about this issue
Glad I went for DayZ on a spring sale instead. It was a tight race, but the modding community helped make the sale.
Unfortunate situation for y'all. Hope it gets better.
I'm glad I have them both. They both have their ups and downs
Dev don't listen...they promte pvp over pve....pvp should be a side hustle if you want it. It should be optional.
100%
this lighting hurts my eyes.. what have they done to the graphics of the game...
Could just be the time of day and weather. I personally haven't noticed significant changes.n
I've got no issues with something being tested out but if it's obviously not working and even driving players away from the product something should be done about it
I hope so too!
Yes, scum will die before 1.0. The devs are not listening to the playerbase.
I crouch walked into shooting range and suddenly 4 spawned all around me. Gave me the shits and cost me alot of handy early life gear from the last 3 or 4 hours of walking about
Ya. Its not working well is it 🤣
this kind of game also shouldnt be turned into a shooter game..., this is a pure survival game, players against zombies, mechs, wildlife and environment ! period.
Is Scum made by people that have never played a game...
I don't even bother with pvp man.
i used to pvp a lot, have 10k hours in dayz (90% pvp servers) and almost 3k on scum (95% pve servers). if im being honest cheaters are rampant in every game right now, tarkov, dayz, scum, cod, apex, you name it, cheaters are going wild right now. since 0.95 i pretty much stopped playing except for whenever a hotfix comes in ill go try it out and hope something is changed. i was a hardcore player when it came to scum, i loved servers with 0.5 loot or even less, 5-10x dmg and boosted spawns. i love a challenge but this system is no fun and is the most lazy thing they could come up with. scum made me so mad with this update that i went and bought tarkov and started pvping again. so now im back to dayz pve servers and tarkov when im feeling in the mood for pvp. atleast in dayz the zombies will spawn in like 500 metres away and hunting is actually enjoyable so my immersion stays in tact. scum has a lot of great features that make pve so versatile but if its at the cost of immersion i am out. you should try playing dayz in the mean time, there are some great pve communities out there.
I had a hard time finding pve servers for DayZ please drop your recommendations!
Been gaming since 1980.
i love scum 3k+ hours.. but game goes wrong.. uninsstal comming
You got that right
With ALL the complex metabolism - can someone tell me what's the point? I thought they were gonna take all the vitamins etc into account for real effects, as it's one of survival basics, taking care of your character. You should have more impact of the character, sicknesses etc as even lot simplified Day-Z does well. I just feel nowadays all the BCU stuff is just for the show, nothing really matters. Let me know if you have died of hunger or thirst in the game?
I have stuff on three servers and log in a couple times a week to keep it maintained but haven't played in weeks.
I played this weekend to ask the community what's their issue with SCUM today. Surprise.... its the puppets
hi there i also agree with what you have said about scum, ive been playing this game since day one, put in over 7000 hrs run a Pve server for quite a few years which i have now canceled , dont enjoy the game anymore.i may not be back which is a shame
I think they may be starting to see the point we are making. Their tune has changed a bit this week but they still are insisting on keeping this system but claim they can fix it and make it work...I'm not holding my breath of course
