There is something seriously relaxing watching your videos, I cant believe I am up to video 21 already. Keep up the great work, I will get mine started eventually!!!!
Hey great video as for signal box where you placed it give a clear view of line for worker which is ideal for changing points. If you put engine shed in corner I put some lighting in it to make better scene
Thanks for another informative video and being part of your 1000 subscribers. Like you and so many more I'm so pleased I;ve got a hobby to spend my time of isolation with and a big happy smile to myself has I've finished my Diesel Depot point motor installation off. So stay safe and keep on railway modelling.
Another very relaxing video. I like your ideas around the location and positioning of your ‘in the greenwood’ signal box and engine sheds. I always try to imagine a pleasing diorama for each building and then try and join the dioramas together. Thanks for sharing.
yeah love that yr Dad made Henry for you..My Dad worked for the railways but was quite distant...I had a Triang railway as a teen I tried to build a model railway unsuccessfully.. tried again later when I had a son..he was only a little interested but I still have the locos I 'bought' for him. ahem..Now I 'm retired I have a railway in the attic and the time to get on with it. I like yr presenting approach and those In the Greenwood models look good...esp the engine shed...cheers..
Man i've been loving your videos. Hope you're staying safe man, probably going to binge all the series again while I'm working from home and trying not to go mad
Hello Tris, found your channel whilst looking for ideas for my own future build which I've narrowed down to my loft as garage is a non stater due to no power and unable to get power in. I realise this video is old (and not watched any newer ones yet) but I've been watching from ep1 and I have to say, I really enjoy your pace and thought process when it comes to doing your layout. I'm a long way behind but I look forward to watching the rest of your videos to see how the layout has developed. Regards, Will
Great series, nice green engine (Henry) . Also nice locomotive shed you have been constructing, may be you could place the shed near to the narrow gauge railway enabling the shed to be used for both narrow gauge and standard gauge locomotives.
Ah thankyou, There will be more to come from him soon. I could do but it will be hard to have both connecting but I like the idea of it. I will mull it over :)
Hi Tristan, I absolutely love this video especially hearing your Dad talking about making Henry, that is wonderful! Keep up the great work and I'm happy to offer any help particularly with any scratch building 👍 kind regards, Time Capsule Scratch Builder 😁
Hello, Thank you for watching, I will check out your channel and have a watch I wanted to make a goods shed out of card to mock up where I will have it.
@@OONeal Oh brilliant! I look forward to seeing you take that on! You'll enjoy seeing the small station building of West bay that I did as a commission piece 👍
Great update there Tris, congrats on 1000 subs, the extension boards will certainly make a big difference. Love the idea of little station with the double track run around line that would really make the logistics of running the 009 much more enjoyable. You’ll have something to do, instead of a train comes in, stops and goes out again. The act of moving the loco will add so much ‘play’ value. On the extra board maybe a station approach road and car park with local industry or shops maybe? Love ‘Henry’, great job by Dad there.
Hello John, I hope your well and keeping safe :) i like the Idea of some form of industry and shops for the board. It will be nice to model those things and will be good for my thinking time. Thanks for your support as always :)
Hi Trish the layout is looking great and really developing into something special, have you decide on a name yet, or did I miss the christening? You mentioned in the video about helping people in the present crisis, from what I can see you are helping 1,6k people from going stir crazy by posting your video's for us all to watch. Thank you. Cheers Steve
Hey Steve, Thank you I appreciate your comments and no I havnt yet I dont know why its so hard. I liked the comments on calling the mountain 'Mount Thomas' I'm thinking about the names but I dont have anything I like yet :) Im happy to do the videos I like having fun in the Loft and so its nice to share. See you soon and look after yourself.
Wow, lots of interesting tidbits in this video! Always fun to watch, and for any modeler it is fun to find more space- maybe not so fun to decide what to do with it. :D As far as the station side space, there are a couple ideas- lengthen your platforms to accommodate the longer trains and cars, but perhaps also include a couple "freight throughways" in between platform lines. You could also move the station and accoutrements closer to the front and more scenic (like row houses or a mock village area) in the background. You usually do not want too much build-up in front of the train sections at the same level. Otherwise, lots of farm and make it all pastoral. Anyhow, Cheers! Happy trains! Stay safe!
Hello Anthony, I like your suggestions but i wanted to keep the station small as i will only use 3 coaches but with the A4 I was just having fun :) I will get some more farmy type things going on as my cows need somewhere to graze :) I think once i finish the whole railway I will probably rip it up and start again lol. Thank you for the comment and I hope your staying safe too :)
Hi Tris thanks for making a very entertaining video as always and good to see your Dad make an appearance albight via the telephone..I think stick to the format of fast forwarding the bits showing you painting or similar that we don't need a detailed view. I think you are right in having the signal box facing you as it would be a shame only to see the back of it. I will be interested to see what you come up with in respect of the extra boards you now have. What you have achieved so far is excellent and it was nice to finish of with the Terrier going round. Keep safe & well...………………..Cheers Kev
Your a top bloke I enjoy your videos at this worrying time. Please don’t put hours of painting on. What you do is great so keep it real and interesting with your editing. Stay safe and truck on.
Loving the update to the layout. Like you i was interested in building 'in the greenwood' models when i first started my layout last year but i quickly realized i'd want all the models and they can become expensive the more you buy although they do look fantastic and offer better value for money than standard plastic hornby buildings. Instead i went down the paper/card route using 'scalescenes' and building them is a hobby in it's own right lol.,,
Hey Tris, I've enjoyed your low key and laid back videos, as you say calming. One thing I've noticed with loft layouts, no one ever has enough insulation? Then after investing time, money and energy the climate bits back and buckles your track - or else it's too hot/cold for part of the year to use the space. That seems so sad, and insulating lofts is good for the planet, and your fuel bills. And it probably costs less than a couple of DCC fitted engines to do it properly! As to your new boards, how about a mini-engine shed and servicing facility for the narrow gauge line, along with a mini-turntable? Sort of like you see on many of the preserved lines. It would be a lot of fun to do, and fun to 'play' with. One other channel you might like to check out is (his capitals). He's been going a few years and has loads of great ideas. he's modelling the Newcastle and South Shields area on a big scale, largely in the 1950s, but he has great ways of doing thing on limited resources, with a lot of ingenuity. He's just hit 200 episodes, but is great fun and has a good sense of humour. Loved your Dad's Henry engine, hope you get it working again soon. Keep safe, be well, be kind.
As for the station, can design it as a midway point station, for example all though its a small railway, new romney station has 2 main platforms, one on the side which goes to a place just down the way (thinking of the mountain on your layout) and has 4 sidings filled with coaches etc. Take a look may give some inspiration
Nice video & so pleased that you've reached the 1000 subscribers (inc) :-) Well done. A suggestion for your painting: normal recording for first few mins, to show your 'technique' etc, then maybe time lapse to finished item? Enjoying immensely & keep up your very good modelling. Iain
I am interested in your 009, and what I would do if I were you would be to build a loco shed, and a locos and carriage shed, as these old locos need a lot of maintenance, however its your railway so build it however you like, keep up the good work
Hi Thomas, thank you for the suggestions, yes I would very much like to do these things once I get round to working on the 009 base board. Thanks for watching
Hello! Found your video's and been quite interesting too watch! As for this video on where too place your switching hut / tower well either side looks good. I been getting back into my old rail way hobbies since last year however work, this winter draining my spare cash for furnace fuel, a break down, now covid laying me off have kind halted the cash flow :(
Hello, thats great you have enjoyed it. Thats great that you are getting into it again as thats what I did in november. With the hobby you can hopefully find some escape even with limited funds you can have fun with it. Thanks for the comment.
G W hello, so mdf will warp and change shape more than ply. I have mdf everywhere but I have sealed it all off but if I did it again I would use ply as it is much more stable.
Hi tris, great content as always. Saw on your layout a twin level mill with upper pass through shed/ mill upper level and sloping down a hill side with a lower level rail passing. No sure how else to explain it. Where did you get it from or was it a scratch build???
Hello thanks for the videos, how do you attach your track to the cork? I’m gluing mine down but the section I’ve done has become very loud when running trains
There is something seriously relaxing watching your videos, I cant believe I am up to video 21 already.
Keep up the great work, I will get mine started eventually!!!!
Thank you David! I hope you enjoy the rest and find some time to get yours started!
The flock looks kind of pretty..... hahaha made me chuckle. The Rocky Mountain pass looks fantastic, really impressive Tris! ☺️☺️
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it

Good video . Nice to see Terrior running again. New scenery sets off the trains well . Will have to give you a spare X04 motor for Henry.
Thanks Dad, Henry is running well now and I will release a video of him rocketing around the layout soon.
Looking great Neal, that signal box will look nice when all painted, hope you get Henry running👍keep up the good work 👋
Looking superb Tris, thanks for these updates, now more than ever

Behind the track where the signal box is you could put some houses.

Hi tris I’ve made a tunnel now for my railway and I’m still running my trains around it as usual. Stay safe. 🙂
Thanks for this! Great stuff. Could expand the platform lengths, as they look a little short for the trains especially the A4. Keep it up 🙂

Good video.
Your series is great and as a beginner i am using it as a guide to bulding my setup. I think i will use small 00 shunters rather than 009.

Hi Ian, I use just normal PVA glue but I didnt find it was more noisy, maybe because its nailed down now its like it? was it nailed down before?
You want to check out Dean Park, I think there are over 200 videos now.
