So, software engineer here. AI has trouble recognizing the faces of black people and other minorities due to the facial features being darker than most of the data sets they have. It is often at no fault of the programmers as the AI just reads data just being given to it and can even misinterpret the data given. Though, many times it is at the fault or neglect of the programmers it is just hard to determine which is which.
Yeah. It's pretty funny though that people are acting like AIs are just racist. All you have to do is fix the program lol

1:37:10 Fun fact: this is the prisoner's dilemma, example of a competitive game theory. In prisoner's dilemma it is statistically better to betray your associate because at worst you'll be imprisoned for 2 year and at best you'll be free. (If you stay silent you'll either get 3 or 1 year of prison)
Not true! If you assume that you and the other person in the dilema are equally logical, you know that both of you should betray the other, for the self-serving reasons you stated. And if both players are logical and selfish, you each serve two years. So two logical players will deduce that they have to stay silent, so they each only stay one year.
Now, someone who is not a robot might try to play the other one for being a logical person... But the way you worded it implies that the other persons choice is a 50/50 chance.
@@houstisiomcfinasto9665 Yeah sorry, I didn't explain it very well. Part of this theoretical question is that you don't know the other person and don't care what will happen to them. With this mindset, if the other person chooses to stay silent, your best option is to tell on them because you'll be free instead of going to prison for 1 year and if the other person rats you out, the best thing you can do is still to betray them since you'd be going to prison for 2 years instead of 3 years. (I don't know if it was clear but the people in this dilemma make their choices separately and don't have any contact)

The reason for not mentioning brakes is the implication of the original Trolley Problem including that the vehicle’s brakes are broken.
i was on a train when we hit someone sleeping on the tracks. guy was lucky as heck, train was going slow, and he was wearing a massive backpacking pack fully loaded and just got pushed ahead of the train until it stopped. train staff made sure he was fine, and then called the cops and he got arrested when we got to the station.
Charlie adds this powerful crazy chaos to the games he plays, but when the games themselves are built around that chaos and make the player feel it themselves he can’t accept it

This game has a surprisingly dark and interesting lore (kinda?). Especially when it started off with the usual 'train moral dillema' but spiraled into a self driving AI car that murders people and the company actions that revolves around it.

By the way the thing about the car "being racist" is referring to a common problem with image recognition AI, which is that the data set that's used to train the AI is almost entirely made up of white people, so it can often be really good at detecting white people but not that great with minorities as a result.
Obviously this is very exaggerated, especially since it's more of an issue with face recognition since you don't need that much accuracy to detect limbs and a head, but I still thought it was worth pointing out.

The Listening Problem one is actually a no-brainer, since illegally obtained evidence can't be used in a court of law, so it wouldn't do anything. Also, my goodness does the narrator guilt trip you. Sometimes it feels more like gaslighting.
I’d say it *really* needs more context, since “users don’t know” could mean that the company actually didn’t tell them or that people aren’t reading all the fine print and therefore didn’t read the part about the AI’s listening.
(Sorta like how in DeviantArt’s policies it says that it owns all/can sell any artwork on the sight, but people just weren’t reading it at all until it was found the website sold a company an artist’s design)

Which is even funnier when you know that police can often get this stuff legally and a lot of places don't actually delete your texts or you photos or anything like that. I mean hell police have gotten evidence of Snapchat, which is meant to delete your photo after sending it.

I don't know why, but I feel insane from that intro. The voices seemed to change where the voice recording seemed to come out of his mouth then out of thin air more voices would come. Like I know what actually happened but my brain just like changed it to a different way. Then it became normal , just him repeating his voice with him speaking normally toward the later half.

For the Tyrone one, think if it this way; he already has a fear of trains. If he watches those people die it could get worse, and of course one life arguably means less than too. That’s my reasoning at least. Imagine the trauma, watching people die from your fear.
I like to imagine that instead of an echo, there is instead a herd of Charlie clones off to his right just constantly repeating every sound he makes like a flock of parrots
I both like and hate how slime (and it appears many people) don’t really get the questions about being in a hospital and taking organs from one person and giving them to 5 people. The point is that it’s the same moral dilemma as pulling the lever or pushing someone onto the track. If you’re willing to do the other two, you SHOULD be willing to apply the same logic to all problems: kill one person, save five. But we are immediately turned away from it because it feels so much more personal and like WE are murdering the than the trolley is, even though in all three scenarios it is murder. It’s the point of the three tests, but it also feels weird to see people so react to it when it’s just the same situation as before.
I respectfully disagree. Harvesting organs is very different from picking which of the people tied to trolley tracks should die. One is picking the lesser of two evils, the other is just a terrible solution to a common problem. Should doctors kill you and harvest your organs whenever you walk into an office?

@@BeaChapman well thank you for being more polite than 99% of commenters, but realistically aren’t the consequences the same in both situations? 5 people are going to die unless you do X to stop them from dying, but doing X will kill one person. The person you are killing is innocent and has no reason to believe you will harm them. Of course in real life a doctor takes an oath not to harm their patients so it wouldn’t happen, but in a white room so to speak, they are both the same situation, right?
The original trolley problem presents a sorta of controlled decision enviroment, pull a lever, kill one, save five, it is TO test you, or, more specifically it's an enviroment that breaks down a morality problem to it's barebones (Value of life and whatnot), when you go for the "kill the person and harvest their organs" question, you add a bunch of external factors that weight in it, it's the same idea as ignoring friction and assuming ideal scenario in certain physics questions, the trolley problem is the frictionless ball being thrown, harvesting organs is the real life, non-ideal scenario, and the answer is totally justified in being different

I love there reactions. This game honestly urkes me on a whole other level. The whole point of The Trolly Problem is a question of morality, but adding situations like specific people and such just ruins the psychological idea.

ok this game isn't actually giving you a choice, in the subscription vs no subscription choice charlie and grace chose *NO* subscription, yet the game continued with a subscription. Also, the keep selling cars vs do a **DRIVERLESS** taxi service isn't actually changing anything, except now the cars show you ads.
Yeah i would have liked if your choices actually mattered, i had the same broblem with in space with markiplier part 2. But atleast that gave two reasons for it.

The organ harvesting question is made to show the hypocrisy of the basic trolley question, in both of them you kill one innocent person to save five.

i’d pick the blow torch in a heartbeat. pretty immediate third degree burns, and auto cauterizes the wound. the main identifying factor of third degree burns is numbness. not only that, but with the bone saw, after you saw the bone itself, you’d be left with a slab of meat to gruesomely saw through, all while bleeding out and in the worst pain anyones ever felt.

If you have the power and awareness to do something and decide not to, that's a choice. If you aren't aware of the lever, then pulling the lever is not within your power and is therefore not a choice, let alone the most moral one. Plus, "do nothing" is an informal way of saying "continue doing what you're doing" or "pause" -- you're not literally doing "nothing".
its more about morality vs legality, not touching the lever, in a real situation would just make you witness, legally you did not kill anyone, but 5 people died.
on the other hand, pulling the lever reduces the deaths from 5 to 1, but you are legally bound to that death (in a real situation i dont think you would be persecuted, but it still happened only after you chose to pull the lever)

The invading privacy question, shouldn't they get a warrant if they believe he confessed to something illegal? As soon as that person is accused of a crime it is the cops job to investigate, even if it might go against their privacy.

yeah this isn't really a good game given how they force you into the subscription service option (same outcome no matter the choice) and some choices dont actually change anything (sell cars or sell cars but now there's ads)
Also Grace and Charlie did not understand the reason why facial recognition did not recognize people because the game had explained it incredibly poorly.
And that’s the most accurate depiction that this game is going to give you of any trolley problem ever: slant it in the way the storyteller is going to say it, make it a horrible decision to choose the other option, purely based on the perspective that they gave you

43:48 In this one, the legality depends. If they have a warrant, they can get into the phone. They’re even allowed to tear it open and get to the hard drive directly(so if they have a warrant, best to just let them get your password unless you’re fine with your phone being destroyed). However, if the data is stored in a cloud, the company can refuse to give them access, and I think they can continue to refuse despite the warrant.

With the ai invading privacy, you have to think that already if you have a warrant to search someone’s house because they are suspicious then you should be able to get a warrant to search through the microphone. So in this scenario, realistically I would imagine the police would be allowed to be given a warrant to search the recording
