    When the HORI Steam Controller was announced, I was really excited to finally get something that was dedicated to the Steam platform, but more so for the Steam Deck. I saw this as a way to get native input and integration with the Steam Deck while in "docked mode". Although the controller does that well, it still has some drawbacks that are worth mentioning.

    it seesm like you had the gyro configured as rightstick instead of mouse. you can easily tell, because when you made fast movements with the controller, the camera responded slower. because the rightstick is acceleration based. meaning the more you tilt the stick the faster the camera moves. the analog stick also has a minimum and maximum turn speed, wich effects the gyro behavior . like i said if you move the controller faster then the maximum turn speed (wicjh is different in all games) then the camera will slow down. if you configure gyro as the mosue you wont have this problem. but most games dont allow for mixed inputs. wich means htat you would need to map the controller inputs to keyboard inputs.

  • @badmoose01
    @badmoose01 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

    This controller seems to cater to my needs specifically.
    I pretty much can’t play any game that involves shooting or aiming a camera without gyro and capacitive thumbstick touch is basically the best gyro implementation made so far. It helps with recentering my controller much like you would by picking up your mouse and putting it back to the center of your mousepad.
    The Dualsense has gyro but there’s no way to map the thumbstick touch to gyro activate.
    And I don’t feel like I’d really miss vibration. The steamdeck itself technically doesn’t have any rumble motors anyways and just the touchpads produce haptics.

      @@Jihottie you have to take your thumb off the stick to enable that at which point you may as well set the toggle to a button (I usually mapped the mute mutton to gyro toggle) and defeats the purpose.

    Its a pretty nice controller! Been playing Helldivers 2 with it for a few days now. At first I thought I have to get used to it, because I missed a lot of shots, then I realized that the Gyro is very jittery and does not react very well at all. It must be some kind of bluetooth problem, because after attaching it to the cable it worked like a charm! My favourite PC Controller right now!

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@baldlyrudy Unfortunately yes, this is normally mitigated by a specific dongle for the controller. The old steamcontroller did it perfectly! This one however only comes with a normal bluetooth dongle. I had similar issues with the switch pro controllers on PC. I have been using the NYXI Athena, but I got tired of reconnecting them to bluetooth a million times to get rid of the jitter. However on cable this new one works just fine, and it saves me from wanting to play and having an empty battery too. 😀

    Hi Rudy! This is my opinion on the controller, I like the weight. I have wrist problems. It does suck to carry something for a prolonged period of time that hurts your wrists. I also do like those inputs that they have for the steam menu that's so awesome!! The rumble and haptic which generally make it heavier, so I'm kind of okay with it not being on this controller. It's a shame that there doesn't seem to be a perfect controller out there just yet imo.
    Right now I prefer the 8bitdo controller the most. The features it has that I like are: Hall effect joysticks that are drift resistant, a good d-pad, analog triggers (in X-input mode), Gyro (in D-input mode), and back buttons. I mostly use it on my PC, but the fact it also works on the switch too also influenced my decision to go for it. Using the toggle on the back I am able to switch between using it on the Switch and my PC without going through any repairing process or button combos.
    What I feel would make it even better is if it had a way to use the gyro in x-input mode, ideally by giving you the option to have it act as a mouse or joystick (either one), and if it's battery was more easily removable. The old 8bitdo controller I had used a removable battery pack and AA batteries also worked in it. The Gyro thing does sort of exist on the Gulikit controllers, but their D-pad isn't as good from what I have heard. And lastly in an ideal world it would also work with other consoles. I think some of 8bitdo's controllers work on an xbox, but Playstation doesn't really have any options that have hall-effect or TMR sticks as far as I am aware. The Dualsense's use of cheap potentiometer sticks that have been repeatedly shown to develop drift over a short period of time is why I am not a fan of that controller.

    I definitely want the gyro. I've burned through three Steam Controllers so far and they are getting expensive and hard to find.

    I'm quite looking forwards to getting this. A gamechanger the Steam Deck has for me is the way it handles gyro. I usually hate playing fps games with a controller, but Steam Deck actually makes it good. Not as good as mouse and keyboard, but still miles better than trying to aim with just the sticks.
    On a console controller, I think rumble is a must have especially with the advanced rumble we see on the Switch and PS5. But for PC gaming, I think I could sacrifice rumble. Like I said earlier, I like to play most PC games with a mouse and keyboard and neither of those have rumble. I'm still hoping of a Valve-produced Steam Controller 2 in the future with 1:1 controls and features of the Deck (with the trackpads, etc)

I’ve got 2 oled, now 3 lites, PlayStation 5 and old Xbox not in use haha maybe I’ll get the Xbox series X maybe in the future. I’m currently playing Fire Emblem Engage so slowly getting through my backlog. Apologies for the long comment. I think the PS Portal is a great accessory if you only want to play PlayStation games on a handheld. If you want more versatility, and you have a Steam Library of games, then I'd recommend the Steam Deck OLED and install Chiaki4Deck. That way you can play PlayStation games like the Portal would, but also have the flexibility of playing Steam games as well.

    • @DrVectrex
      @DrVectrex 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Steam Deck is a pretty solid device. I don't own one myself but if you have a lot of games on Steam and or prefer playing games on handheld then it's a pretty good option for making those games accessible anywhere with a device that's fairly straight forward and easy to use. Just know there may be a few games that require some research beforehand to run as unlike the Switch, the steam deck is still at its heart just a computer running games made for different systems. The PlayStation Portal on the otherhand is less a handheld and more so a companion to your existing PS5. With no hard drive or abilitytoplay games on its own it's purely reliant on your internet connection and existing setup. That said in that role it's perfectly built around the PS5 setup and can be a great way to get more out of your console if you'd prefer having the freedom to play games in bed or in any other part of your home, or you happen to be staying somewhere with good internet reception. In short it's the difference of whether you want a dedicated device or an accessory for one. And just to include them and for a few more options there's also Retro devices such as the Retroid Pocket or Ayn Loki. And Windows handhelds such as the Asus ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go. I include these because most retro handhelds run Android meaning you could install the PlayStation streaming app onto them to also be able to stream games from your PS5, while also being able to play mobile games and being pre setup for emulators if that's something your interested in. While Windows handhelds allow you to play just about any PC game with the tradeoff being that they're largely just custom laptops in a gaming shell, meaning you'll have to work around and in Windows whereas the Steam Deck runs Steam OS, a custom version of Linux which can be tailor made to be simple and easy to use in a handheld format. Anyway long post but hope it helps! xD

      @@CandarianGaming i figure it does, im just a real weirdo about it, i primarily use nintendo switch pro controller for fighting games for its triggers and massive face buttons though i recently started using the ps4 controller as well because i find the lowered left stick (which is nice and grippy) better for my motion input while i find the higher nintendo switch stick better for charge characters etc. just a lot of weird preference stuff like that.

    Personally I'm not even going to consider this controller unless they bring it officially to North America. It does look like an ok controller but the price to import it just isn't worth it.

    I have to disagree about the gyro/weight argument that some may put forward. No gyro enthusiast has ever complained about weight fatigue over the past 9 years that I've seen.

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's fair. I'm personally not huge into gyro. I was just trying to think up counter arguments.

    What's the difference between the steam controller and this one the other one looks small it's from the steam website which one is better The Valve Steam Controller or the hori steam controller i like hori steam controller better than the ugly Valve Steam Controller from steam

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mainly the input. The Steam Controller from Valve has touchpads instead of analog sticks for directional input. To compensate for that, the Hori one has pretty solid gyro controls when wired.

    This would be the perfect controller for me, if only it used AA batteries instead of an integrated one that's not easily replaceable. Still, I'd grab one if they were available in the west!

    This controller is so crap. Stupid asymmetric joysticks?? no trackpads??? All steam deck owners want is a steam deck controller without the screen in the middle. A worthy companion for the steam deck this is not

    Valve is the only company to make an actual Steam controller, this is just a wireless controller that maybe runing thier hardware/software, but isn't from valve, so its not an official Steam controller. so stop lying.

    If you play shooters on Steam yet you'll never use this controller again, and if you usually use mouse and keyboard, why would you ever publish videos of controller reviews? That's a terrible bias.

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Why would I recommend a product that I don't see myself using? Why would rather I lie to you and tell you, "Yeah! I'm going to use this controller from now on!"?
      I use controllers more than any other input because I play more single-player games that aren't shooters. GOW Ragnarok, Dead Cells, Final Fantasy, etc. The time I use M+K is for games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Cyberpunk 2077.
      I literally said 14:51 that I personally prefer to use my DualSense Edge and 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller. I'm not sure how that's being biased against controllers. I said my personal bias was that I would rather have haptic feedback instead of gyro.
