    9:59 I still laughing when members said they were expecting to be a flower boy group. Singing love song. But after the LA training, they become a pirate and the songs mostly dark. HAHAHAHAHA But luckily they stick with this theme. It suit them well.

    Ateez pride themselves as a performance based group and are well known for their impressive & thought out stages despite a small domestic fan base. Their stage presence is unmatchable. Unfortunately, their sound does not appeal to the Korean audience but they have stated that they will not change their sound just to sound mainstream and will continue doing what they want to.Ateez and their team of dancers and staff are the most dedicated to their storyline I’ve ever seen , with comebacks being planned years in advance and when you go deeper into the storyline (videos from atinys explaining can be found) you’ll realise that they are so detailed and put in so much effort to incorporate references and the creativity is off the charts.For example, their 3rd latest album The World Ep1: Movement is related to their Rhythm Ta performance in the show Kingdom and the mv of their title Halazia was filmed in an abandoned mall in Thailand because there was a song in The World album named New World. It blows many atinys mind really but don’t worry if you can’t fully understand the storyline, many of use still don’t fully understand it as well, not even half of it has yet to be revealed. Thank you for loving ateez❤

      Thank u so much for the comment :) hearing that their sound doesn’t really appeal to their home audience is surprising and disappointing (for them), BUT the fact they are so consistent with the sound THEY want is awesome. everything about them feels so authentic, so that makes a bunch of sense to me. As for the story, I’m gonna make sure I don’t stress on it and just try to pick it up as I watch, that’ll make the experience feel even more full:)

      @@Strokiemane Take your time! It’s really enjoyable to see a new fan explore! It was also surprising to many atinys who love ateez’s sound. It’s become apparent Korean netizens dislike groups that sound more niche and yet they’re so well received by international audience. It’s also interesting that ateez has a particularly strong European fan base and are often on world tours that are pretty extensive, they go to Europe, Latin America and East Asia and Southeast Asia(for the 1st time this year)

    Ateez "easily" conquered the US because of these American influences as you said. When the KQ Fellaz Performance vids 1 & 2 (Plus Yunho's solo) dropped, it kinda went viral on kpop twt. It allowed a lot of people to realize they exist and to tune in for their debut/predebut content that was going on at the time. When training in LA, it kind of gave them an affinitive for a hip-hop dance group kind of idol group. I also assumed it allowed for their willingness to have extreme facial expressions and stage charisma (San being a kpop pioneer of this) due to their training in LA. Among most idols *at the time,* having dramatically weird and scary facial expressions was unpopular and not as accepted as now. But of course, dramaticism is emphasized in their lore and songs, so they felt as if understanding the meaning of the song and portraying it as such was important. They also teamed up with some american choreographers to create old choreo (like say my name was choreographed by Anze Skrube). While predebut, due to living in LA for a whole month, it allowed them to learn about different cultures, helping them become somewhat aware about the interests of international fans outside of South Korea.
    This also helped to build a strong (small, but mighty!) original fanbase for them, considering its hard to gain a fanbase in South Korea as an idol group from a relatively small agency (especially when groups from small companies come and go, a lot of SK fans don't latch on as easily as they would to a group under larger companies, like the Big 4). Unfortunately, I wasn't an atiny until 2021-ish, but apparently in the beginning, predebut/debut international atinys would trend ateez so often in order to promote them to the world. All of their awards and achievements have been thanks to their hard work, talent, and love for atiny... Their growth has been slow but steady, and we wish them the world :)
    Some things I always think about are the first ever atiny to meet ateez, who watched their performance videos and decided to to support them. While they were still in LA filming their predebut series, she happened to see them on the street filming and recognized them immediately... The joy on their faces when they met their first ever fan was so sweet, and she's still an atiny to this day! :') It also reminds me of their first music show stage, to promote pirate king/treasure, where before their segment came up, Hongjoong asked the vlog camera "people will come, right?" 🥲

      thank u for the comment :) the vision they and their team had for them was so unique, it’s no wonder I’ve never really come across anyone like them. I’ve mentioned in other comments, but it’s really so impressive how big their global fanbase is without having a fluent English speaker (i don’t think that’s bad at all, but usually the groups that cross over have one). Especially since the international atiny are so devoted to them. And that story about hongjoon before their first debut🥲 its amazing that they’re selling out world tours now 🥹

  • @blaublaubeere
    @blaublaubeere ปีที่แล้ว +23

    They do have American influences, tho ATEEZ is known as a global or international idol group within SK. They are introduced as such and this comes up a lot in their interviews. And they quite are popular in other parts of the world too^^ The thing is, their South Korean fanbase is quite small, which is the reason for them being big globally is so notable.
    Also you'll see that some of their MV's have been shot outside of SK, for example, Promise was shot during their first world tour 2019 in Sweden and Russia, Aurora in the US, and Halazia in Thailand.
    Their storyline is a big part of, well, basically _ATEEZ_. The story is so woven into their *everything* that you can't really separate it from ATEEZ. The story is present in 99% of their music and MV's, live stages, concerts, the physical albums have written snippets of the story as you know, there is a short film and multiple trailers etc. and there's even a few reality shows where the storyline is present. The story is also very much present when they choose marketing tactics - I won't say anything else because it's too spoilery, but let's just say that their team can get very creative and I haven't seen such dedication before.

    • @Strokiemane
      @Strokiemane  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yea their massive popularity outside of SK is very interesting to me still, especially since they don’t seem to have any true fluent type English speakers (which I don’t think is necessary, but usually is a big factor in western success). It’s a bit surprising they’re not particular big in SK tho! as for the lore, I’m so excited to continue to pick up more and more about it as I keep watching! Thanks for watching :)

    • @dr6959
      @dr6959 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Strokiemane thankfully they're getting more popular in SK recently, but it's so impressive how they didn't have a big fanbase or a big and wealthy company to support them in the beginning and now they're becoming more and more recognized and it's sooo deserved istg. Sorry if I'm rambling but I'm literally so proud of our underdog Pirates ☠️ ❤

    Also yes Ateez has done 2 episodes on the React channel, they are both pretty funny and cute. And yes, the Wanteez series is hilarious, the health check ones are 9 and 10, but I also recommend watching 17 through to 21. Especially 19, 20 and 21. Absolutely the most hilarious content I have ever seen from any k-pop artists, in my opinion.

    Bouncy is by far their most laid back and simplest song in terms of choreography. They released this song for their fans with an easier choreography because in kpop when they release a new song they do something called a “dance challenge”. They produce tiktoks doing the chorus part of the dance with other kpop celebrities. ATEEZ is a powerhouse performance group and up until Bouncy they have never been able to do the dance challenges because their choreo is simply too difficult for other idols.
    ATEEZ are kings of the anti-drop (Fireworks and Bouncy excluded). The true drop always happens near the end of the song where their dance break is.
    They are very rock/edm centric which isn’t the “norm” for kpop. Because of that they are/were heavily popular in the West but not so much in Korea. Their song Guerrilla changed that. They blew up quick after that.
    They are huge gamers. Almost all of them play league and the member Yunho is also highly ranked in Valorant. It makes sense that they would perform at worlds 😊

    • @Strokiemane
      @Strokiemane  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it’s crazy that u mention that Bouncy is their most laid back because now that I think about it it def is 😭😭 (at least from what I’ve seen so far) cuz it’s their only choreo that I actually am able to do (as much as I can do any choreo LOL) I def saw a bunch of challenges being shared onto my twitter feed to so that makes sooo much sense now! thanks for watching :)!

    • @vixiecat
      @vixiecat ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Strokiemane ok this is funny. Half of this comment was for you but the other half was supposed to be on the video I watched right before this one. TH-cam said you needed both I guess 😂 Which is why I said that they’re huge gamers. They are involved in LoL Worlds in Korea in some capacity. It’s only been teased so we have no idea what they’re doing.
      But that’s ok! I’m here to help! But yeah. I know you haven’t fallen too far into the ATEEZ rabbit hole yet. Their music videos don’t do their dances justice. Definitely some time to watch the dance practice videos or the “performance” videos which are the full choreo. They’re insane and I love them to pieces!

    I think it's fair for more than one group to call themselves 4th gen leaders because there are many ways to measure success: albums sold, Spotify streams, MV views, awards, growth in sales from debut, tour revenue, praise from sunbaes, number of new idols naming someone from their group as an idol they want to be like or a mix of any of these.

    • @Strokiemane
      @Strokiemane  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely!

    • @nerasomnia
      @nerasomnia ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Omg this! I remember when the term first started being used. It was hard to gauge which 4th Gen group among ATEEZ, Stray Kids, TXT, ITZY, and (G)I-dle was more successful and had more influence, so people decided to call them the 4th Gen leaders instead of naming a King/Queen of the generation. As far as I’m concerned, ATZ, SKZ, and TXT are all 4th Gen Leaders. It makes no sense why the fanbases are fighting so hard to be THE bearers of the title when they can all bear that title.

    Congratulations on lasting this super long guide haha! To encompany this long video, I’ve brought a long comment lol.
    Hongjoong literally being the first trainee of KQ always felt so baffling to me. What’s even more surprising is how it all came to be. KQ was not a regular company wishing to debut an idol group. Initially, it was just a place meant for producers and songwriters. That was until one day, a staff member found a sample mixtape and letter, sent to the company address by a teenager who wanted to produce songs. Now for the crazy part, Hongjoong sent this stuff a whole year ago! He said he received a call from that staff member asking if he still did music, and lo and behold, it led to where we are now. For 6 months he was the only trainee. He was surrounded by producers all the time, which cultivated his self taught skills even more. For more backstory, Ateez’s main producer, Eden, was put in charge of Hongjoong when he first came. At first, Eden wasn’t very fond of being put in charge of HJ, and tried to make him give up on music. He gave HJ 200 vocabulary words to memorize in one day, hoping it’d discourage him. However, HJ surprised him by successfully doing it, sacrificing sleep in order to have it done. I truly recommend reading this article about it:
    www.koreaboo.com/stories/ateez-producer-eden-shares-incredible-story-showing-hongjoongs-dedication-music/
    As such, I think that’s why many Atinys believe Ateez is a product of fate. With HJ reaching out and not even getting a response till a year later, from Seonghwa being inspired by a boy who he later found out was HJ, to the preexisting friendships in this group, it’s all insane to me and puts more meaning into the destiny part of our fandom name.
    Currently, KQ has a few solo artists, most prominent being Eden and Maddox. They both work in Ateez’s producing team and are very close to the members. KQ has also recently debuted another boy group named Xikers. Ateez takes good care of them like little brothers, and often calls them by the term “our kids.” They’ve expressed sentiments how because they didn’t really have sunbaenims to take care of them, they wanted to do their best in that role so Xikers wouldn’t have that same feeling. Their interactions are always super cute, and KQ’s performance monster blood has certainly been passed down to them.
    Fun facts:
    More members got their licenses! I believe it's Hongjoong and Wooyoung, though I’m unsure if there’s anyone else.
    Yeosangs former classmates came out to say how unbelievably nice he was. Wooyoung has stated how rare it is to see Yeosang mad or raising his voice. Also, the doberman vs maltese thing he’s got is so funny. He tried to get everyone in concert to agree he was a doberman, but he was saddened when he was met with an overwhelming no in the audience.
    San’s dad was a taekwondo instructor!
    If you say fix on quickly, it kind of sounds like song. Mingi explained that this was an intentional double meaning for his name, “Song Mingi.” So not only does it mean fixing your attention on him, it also alludes to his family name.
    Wooyoung’s dance in the mirror is from a documentary called Fill in the Blank. It’s super insightful to his character and I would definitely enjoy a reaction to that :))
    Both Jongho and Hongjoong did Lee Mujin! They did incredible, as always.
    Recs for silly stuff:
    Hello82 is another good beginner series for them. It’s them more in the beginning of their careers, but an Atiny classic nonetheless.
    All 3 of their idol human theaters are hilarious!

      wow the story about hongjoon is so crazy... He seems like such an impressive person. Learning that kq wasn’t even in the idol business until hongjoon really adds an ever greater layer to all this, like he really was the first one responsible for their existence. Thank you for the article link, it just shows how much HJ had to push through to make his dream come true. I really have so much respect for him. Ateez as a group of fate is so poetic, I’m so glad I decided to take this journey getting to know them.
      Also, I didn’t know Xikers was a kq debut group! Is that the first group to debut as company juniors for Ateez? Regardless, I think it might be fun to see their interactions.
      Finally, thank you sooooo much for the video recs/links. I want to start watching more of the fan comps, but didn’t know where to start so this helps a ton. Thank you so much for the wonderful comment and for watching at all💜💜 I love atiny lol everyone has been amazing

      @@StrokiemaneYes, Xikers are the first company juniors for Ateez! At the recent Kcon in LA, you could see them at the end stage collecting all the Xikers members like children.
      I'll definitely leave more links and recs for silly shenanigans. They have so much content, so I get why it'd be overwhelming. I'm actually a fairly new Atiny, it's been about a year since I've gotten into them. Obviously you've seen how much they've impacted me haha.
      Thank you for taking the time to get to know them! It's hard to find reactors willing to get to know a group so deeply. I'm excited for what's to come :))

    • @flaggov6949
      @flaggov6949 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You gave great recs. I do have to correct one error. KQ was in the idol business. Block B (you may have heard their song Very Good) successfully sued to end their contract with their previous company. Someone they knew started a brand new company, Seven Seasons, just for them (I believe he was a former manager of some sort at their previous company). Later the CEO started a new company, KQ, and put Seven Seasons under KQ (kind of similar to how Bang PD created Hybe and put Bighit under Hybe's umbrella except in this case the companies were so small there was little separatation). Hongjoong chose KQ because he was a huge fan of Block B's leader, Zico. KQ wasn't looking to create their own group at the time, but because of military service, they would have to debut a group eventually. Shortly after ATEEZ debuted, Zico left and started his own company. The other members of Block B stayed but mostly did individual promotions as everyone rotated through military service. When they returned, as their contracts came up, the members left Seven Seasons but didn't go to Zico's company either (except I never heard whether the last one left). It's possible they got used to other work, for example, PO was on a lot of TV shows before his service. I've always wondered whether there were issues between some Block B members and the CEO because putting SS under KQ was essentially a work-around to allow the company to have other artists--we'll probably never know. Unlike with xikers, it never appeared that ATEEZ had a super close relationship with Block B (a few Block B members mentioned ATEEZ now and then and vica versa), though you can see that they inherited Block B's performance style which isn't surprising since they have the same choreography/dance team--BB Trippin (the BB stands for Block B). The last I checked, Seven Seasons' and Block B's names were still in the opening clip KQ puts at the beginning of MVs. All this to say that while it's true ATEEZ was the first group KQ debuted, it wasn't their first group.

      hi! Sorry, I think for #1 I had an issue with the sync after it’s posted so I wanted to fix that before I make it public again, but the others should be there! let me see if something is wrong, thanks for letting me know!!

    What a great reaction! Thanks for sharing this.
    If I could make one suggestion. Don't talk over the vids please. It is ok to pause as often as you need to as you share your thoughts. Pausing might help you figure out what really needs to be said and what can wait until later. You might want to have a pad of paper with you and you can write down notes to remind yourself about small details to be shared at the end of the vids. For me, someone with hearing challenges, struggling to hear what these artists are saying or singing while you are talking over them is really frustrating. Listen more. Talk less. 😀
    All in all, you did a fine job!
    Welcome to Atinyville. I look forward to following your journey.
