Thank you, you have greatly enlightened me. I listened to some of John Mayers music just a little while ago and realized that much of what I played was directly inspired by him. The amazing thing is I had never heard him before and didn't even know who he was!
This music is what draws those who do not know Jesus yet. If you can play it then use it to share the good news. Lincoln is pushing the boundaries of the Christian guitar player and as a worship guitar player I like that a lot. Let's use this music to "go and make" new disciples!
This groove is made into a song with a Gospel band on Lincoln's new CD. I heard a clip of it when he did a concert I put on. Was very cool. He actually played it from his iPhone over the PA. People were digging it. Cannot wait for the CD!
I see where he is coming from. God gave them those talents, and they are putting them to use. I'm sure god is happy just to see that they are doing something with that talent, even though it's not christian music.
haha, i actually originally was going to mention "The Power of Your Name" in my comment, but i cut down to two songs because of the 500 character limit. yeah, he's without a doubt a Mayer fan. i remember reading that his favorite guitarists of this generation were Keith Urban and Mayer.. and you can definitely hear the similarities between him and Keith as well. his legato is almost identical.
i actually do see gods glory in john mayers playing, i see it in all of my favorite musicians. its just a shame these non-christian musicians are unable to realize it. its god that gave them this gift, they just dont realize it.
@alanfenton100 If you don't think John Mayer is good at guitar...you obviously haven't listened to any of Where the Light is...he can just about play any style of guitar and shred like no other as well, (check out the solo on wait till tomorrow). Lincoln and John are definitely on the same level in my humble opinion.

I have a hard copy of the new CD and I couldn't find it, but not calling you a liar. It may have been somewhere I didn't see. The fact that it's there doesn't matter as to which is a better musician. "Inspiration for arrangements" refers to the mix, instruments, etc... I could see your point if Lincoln wrote that the songs themselves were inspired by Continuum, but to my knowledge that's not what he's saying...
Now those two comparisons I would agree with. I also do agree that music is subjective, witness the varying genres... However, I still maintain my point that Lincoln is a better musician, even if John Mayer has sold ten million more CD's. I should probably retract my original(if 2 months ago) comment, because I think it may have come across too harshly. My original comment regarding JM was that I don't particularly enjoy his style of music, "Your Body is a Wonderland" namely. Point conceded.
This is kind of why I retracted it. I still don't particularly like Mayer, because when I think of him, I think of "Wonderland," which is what I was trying to say in my original comment. It didn't go over too well. However, I never denied that he has talent, which he no doubt does possess.
i can respect retracting your comment. you have to understand though, dismissing Mayer's talent because of "Wonderland" is just such a huge misconception that it's tiring to read a comment saying that even in this stage of his career, after the release of Continuum. when a guy earns the respect of legends like Clapton, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Double Trouble, Scofield, and Rene Martinez, i think it's time to give the whole "wonderland" thing a rest.
no, because conceding a point while being coy about your intentions isn't conceding at all, but a cop out. you were essentially saying that you were not wrong, but that your point came across wrong, that you weren't trying to deny talent, when it was pretty clear what you were saying. there's no need to try to justify being wrong. it was just an uninformed exaggeration, and we can leave it at that.
you can argue the semantics of "arrangements", but as someone who knows John's music inside and out, i am absolutely certain that songs on "Today is the Day" were directly influenced by John. "This Love" nods to "Waiting on the World to Change", "The Arms of My Savior" to "Gravity", etc. and i did not even imply that one of them was better than the other. you were the one who made that mistake. music is subjective, and it's foolish to compare musicians. i'm saying Lincoln is a fan of Mayer.
oh, come on.. i understand you took it back, but now you're just being coy and only retracting comments because i brought facts to the table. you were obviously trying to push a bit more than just your personal opinion of his music. whether or not you outright "denied" his talent, you were certainly belittling it. "it's way past what John Mayer could dream about though." i'm sure Lincoln would laugh at that comment. you made it clear that you didn't know much at all about Mayer's music.
@schectersmiles919 And Stevie Ray Vaughn was better than John Mayer and Derek Trucks IS better than Mayer. Who cares?? It's all about personal taste. If there were no SRV there more than likely would be no Mayer.

that was amazing... purely amazing... god has blessed these men with some talent for sure.
Thank you, you have greatly enlightened me. I listened to some of John Mayers music just a little while ago and realized that much of what I played was directly inspired by him. The amazing thing is I had never heard him before and didn't even know who he was!
Lincoln Brewster and Fender tone. So sweet.
God bless him!
from jam.. to composition from God to recording and to the latest album of Lincoln Brewster... Today is the Day..
This music is what draws those who do not know Jesus yet. If you can play it then use it to share the good news.

glad to see guitar solos in christian music. Love it .
Wow. Just wow. That is one awesome way to praise GOD!
This is sweet. I heard about Lincoln Brewster being a good guitarist a couple of years ago. Now I see that it's true.
John Mayer is my downright favorite artist. and i totally use his influence as well as Brewster's to incorporate into my worship.
very nice video! glad you were able to make this! : D
I see where he is coming from. God gave them those talents, and they are putting them to use. I'm sure god is happy just to see that they are doing something with that talent, even though it's not christian music.
Hey man, he did this when I saw in San Jose. Awesome, I hope that my watching as many LB videos on youtube I can pick up some stuff by osmosis...
Sweet. Enjoy the music!
awersome
thank you! =D
i know!!! this is probably where he got the idea for the song, being that this was over a year before the album came out.
woah...bass playing madness
All I ever remember John Mayer for is "your body is a wonderland," a pop failure. Lincoln Brewster forever.

its god that gave them this gift, they just dont realize it.
i dont know. he only sang it publicly once and its on his next album. i think within the next 2 months it should be coming out.
this was one of his "jam session" songs but he has since put lyrics behind it. its much better with lyrics and everything.
The phenomenal bassist is Norm Stockton.
there is a possibility that "Give Him Praise" came from this jam. The video is from 2007.
I agree with you that it was the connotation, and therefore I retracted it... Is my conceding of the point not enough for you to graciously accept?
Lincoln Brewster does make chirstian music, but I was talking about John Mayer and such.
@alanfenton100

I'd say its a distinct possibility. Seing as how its exactly the same riff.
please,
does somebody has a recorded version of this song? I mean,in audio, not video (and with a good quality)..

yup yup :]

Join the club.
Why one or the other? They are both great guitar players
very Marcus-y bass player!
I dont think this is an " improv song" . Its called "Give him praise" . We play it at my church too. Possibly my favorite Brewster song.
has a version with lyric of this song?? what is the name?
i can respect retracting your comment. you have to understand though, dismissing Mayer's talent because of "Wonderland" is just such a huge misconception that it's tiring to read a comment saying that even in this stage of his career, after the release of Continuum. when a guy earns the respect of legends like Clapton, Buddy Guy, B.B. 2 questions... Anyone else think he sounds alot like Joe Satriani's blues playing?
And can I get lesons?
OK, so basically, I(including my previous post) am wrong and you are right. What I said before.
no problems there, buddy.
i think he uses jazz twos or threes red...
dude.. it's "give him praise"...
It's way past what John Mayer could dream about though.
no, because conceding a point while being coy about your intentions isn't conceding at all, but a cop out.

how can you see God's Glory in those non-christian musician?
No and no. Try Jonny Lang. It shows up more in the lyrics though.

i dont know who the guy screamin was but my lord hes freakin annoying.
John Mayer would eat this guy. He's good but come on. John Mayer?
@schectersmiles919

woo praise god for inventing mcdonalds fries and horrible christian jam bands
