A word of advice to those who are looking for missing dogs. When going to your local shelter to look for a dog or cat they will have pics in a book of the animals. If you go through the book and don't see your pet ask to look in all the kennels anyway. Our dog was in one of the kennels but not in the book.
Totally agree. Someone tried to break into sons house from backyard. When they opened gate they let dogs out(sons and ours-his dog was not picked up because it had a collar on). Long story short.... Animal Control picked her up. They obviously did not check for chip, (we were out of state) because she was chipped which bothers me even now. An Older Child took off her collar with identifiable tags on them, because while traveling wanted her to be comfortable. Learned the hard way, but child and a couple of family adults also learned; never take collar off especially traveling, even if chipped!!! I was not leaving! I asked where they place dogs they are just bringing in while giving a quick evaluation from a vet, etc. I also asked to talk to the manager of the shelter. Explained to her the same, showed pics and continued to ask to go in every room they had. They did ask if we saw her on their Facebook page which they use instead a binder. I knew she was not on it. I checked it before I got there. The Joke....she was placed on the page as picked up even after we had already taken her home. It did get corrected after I contacted them. A bit of concern in many areas. Prayerfully they do better. She was just where I thought she was. That holding room when vet checks them. She had never been moved. Poor baby very upset and confused. Not used to "jail" of any kind. We had already had our vet send us verification she was up to date on everything and even asked to fax not just to us, but the animal control shelter also so we were ahead of the game. We were out of there in no time. Also Always keep several updated photos in several different poses on your phone so you have them to share no matter where you may be. I also advise you to have a saved document of the medical updated info too. The vet may be closed when you go to pick them up. God Bless
In Europe when you bring your cat or dog (or farm animals) to the vet they will chip it and give a booklet called a animalpassport. And they will note all the medical info in it. Vacinations etc. The booklet you take home and bring for every vet visit when you go out of the country etc. So if your dog goes missing you can take the passport you don't have to call the vet for information.

Then I got a call 6 days after he’d gone missing asking me to come out to the shelter that is five miles past the city limits. I found a way to get there. Walked in to the most foul smelling room, and instantly saw my cat! 🎉❤️🌟🤗😸 He’d been there for six days and was about to become the shelter’s property. They then had the right to euthanize him. He wasn’t popular with staff. They’d named him Lucifer! So happy to have found him. My love bug!! 😿🙀😻😼
In this country if a rescue picks up your dog if straying you have to pay a board fee,, so I’d have wanted to donate to this lady for the kindness she showed...
I have two rescue dogs. They both came from horrible circumstances. Trust me when I tell you they deeply appreciate everything that strangers did for them. Now they have a family and beds, couches, hikes in the mountains, rides in the car, cookies and kongs.

Microchip and collars with contact info! My little chihuahua, Freya Rose, decided to take herself for a walk after escaping our yard. Some college kids found her several blocks from our house and we hadn't even had time to realize she was gone. They called the number on her tag and we had her back within a few minutes of letting her into the back yard. Needless to say, we found and repaired the spot from which she'd escaped.
