for me.. Shearer was my first "favrotire football player" :) my parents could not afford an official jersey from Newcastle (i dont live in england), and got me a knockoff version. That was one of my jersey from the two i had in my life
I don't want to sound like a dick, but I don't know if today's generation realise just how good he was, back in his pomp, in the mid nineties, before the injuries and age began catching up with him, and he had to tailor his game. He was an absolute monster, used to physically bully centre halves, and could score every type of goal. I actually think he would possibly score even more goals, today. Used to bully officials ruthlessly, too, tbh 😂. But, that's part and parcel of the game. He's someone I'd want in my team, every time. Conducted himself impeccably off the pitch, too, and was a brilliant team captain. He was old school. (I support Manchester United, too, so I'm not being biased in my assessment of him)...😂👍
The craziest Shearer story I heard was why Newcastle didn't pick him up at youth level. When he got in a trial match they realised they didn't have 2 goalkeepers and the youth coach simply picked on an outfield player to go in goals and the youth coach picked on Alan as he was the smallest kid there promising him he would rotate with other players so he had the chance to show what he could do. The coach never did and poor Alan never got the chance. . For any fans of chaos theory that one decision by the youth coach cost Newcastle £18 million
I'd heard the the Del Piero story before, but I had no idea it was Batistuta telling it or that he called Shearer "The Greatest". That's incredible! Does anyone have a source for when and where Batistuta said that?
A dying breed of loyalty. Chose being a hero at his boyhood club over guaranteed trophies and still became the prem top scorer despite playing in some rubbish Newcastle teams. What a man
You forgot that despite his injury he had a near perfect ending. His last touch of a ball as a pro was to score against sunderland. Our biggest rivals and the same team gullit dropped him against.
In my lifetime, the best finishers I've seen in no particular order: CR7 (slightly better then Messi at finishing, not as an overall player OBVIOUSLY before anyone starts), Batistuta, Haaland, Shearer. All of them proper strikers, yes CR7 was absolutely a #9 for a lot of his career imo. Others like Messi, R9, Henry, Suarez, all incredible players but for pure shooting it's the first 4. When Shearer hit it, it was going in. NFFC fan
Haaland is way off on that list, his shot conversion rate is below loads of current strikers such as Isak and Wilson. Haaland is a more capable striker overall but he has missed way too many easy shots and one on ones to be considered in the finishing realms of Shearer and Batistuta. There are plenty of other great finishers Romario, Vieri, Shevchenko, Del Piero. I would bet on any of those names finishing a one on one or a penalty box strike ahead of Haaland. Of course Haaland still has plenty of time to improve.
@Tesmond256 I'd argue they all miss plenty, even Shearer, Romario etc. And tbf it's not like I've carefully studied every single shot taken in my lifetime or had access to watching Romario for example so there will be names missing from my list. Beppe Signori was an underrated finisher. Hasselbaink had an precise laser guided bullet of a shot from anywhere inside 30 yards and is right up there for me but I have Shearer, Batistuta etc ahead for obvious reasons really. We've seen some great finishers over the years. Shevchenko, Villa, Drogba, Fowler, more recently Lewandowski. But it's still the first 4 if I want to choose a player to maximise the chance of a goal when given space to shoot
One of the truly great no 9’s. Had he gone to United he’d have probably won much more. His goal scoring achievements at Blackburn and Newcastle was astonishing
No mention about Newcastles £20,000,000 mistake. He had trail at Newcastle as a teenager and was made to go in goal as they didn't have enough keepers.

All of them are underrated except for Owen who is one of the most overrated players in history. Never even broke the 20 goal barrier in the Premier league.
@@watcherwriter1689he did win a balon d'Or tho
@aidan2453 the balon d'or means nothing, he scored 19 goals that season. Shearer scored 30+ league goals 3 seasons running, hell Kevin Philips scored far more goals in a season than Owen and out an our striker scored in his balon d'or season. He was so overrated, nothing but pace and when his pace was gone he couldn't adapt. Shearer was quick when he first came through but lost his pace after injury and adapted his game and kept scoring. I wouldn't put Owen in the top 10 Premier League strikers, possibly not even in the top 20.
@@watcherwriter1689 it means he did something that the football world thought was worth recognising him as the best player in the world that season. I'm not saying he was the best that season but he did well enough for people to see him as that. His peak was short but definitely impressive. I agree he would scrape top 20 pl strikers at best looking at his career as a whole tho
Very well done!
I saw a comment asking for Dybala, make it trend
for me.. Shearer was my first "favrotire football player" :) my parents could not afford an official jersey from Newcastle (i dont live in england), and got me a knockoff version. That was one of my jersey from the two i had in my life
One of the best comebacks of all time at the start. love Micah Richard’s honest personality as well, just brilliant.
Awesome video, dude. Thanks again :)
(I support Manchester United, too, so I'm not being biased in my assessment of him)...😂👍
My favorite footballer of all time! First time I saw him (like many others at the time): at Euro '96. I've been a Newcastle fan ever since
Excellent vid!
great stuff as usual. Can you do a deep dive on Bruce Grobelaar
Great video. Well played.
The coach never did and poor Alan never got the chance. .
For any fans of chaos theory that one decision by the youth coach cost Newcastle £18 million
was at the palace game and saw him score them 2 goals behind the goal and said too my dad “he looks a decent player”😮
A true Legend no matter what anyone says. My youth hero, what a lad. 🎉
Tap in, header, overhead kick, curling free kicks, volleys , penalties, screamers from 30 yds out….
Man had it all in his ability.
I'd forgotten just how many injuries he had. What a great player.
This chanel is the best football chanel ever
I dont even watch football but I watch every one of these. Peak TH-cam.
As a guy from the north east of England. Newcastle being my club. A kid growing up in the 90s. Shearer was GOD!!
This is great thanks mate
EPL record goal scorer with all those injuries, he was unbelievable..
I'd heard the the Del Piero story before, but I had no idea it was Batistuta telling it or that he called Shearer "The Greatest". That's incredible! Does anyone have a source for when and where Batistuta said that?
The Sunday People [March 9, 2003]
@nWoWolfpacTV2016 Thank you.
A dying breed of loyalty. Chose being a hero at his boyhood club over guaranteed trophies and still became the prem top scorer despite playing in some rubbish Newcastle teams. What a man
Great man with a great story. Shearer Forever❤
This guy made me love Football and Newcastle!
15M in SWOS 96/97. Stumbling upon Newcastle in a European cup meant bad times.
I am not sure if you have done a video about veron! If possible to have a video about the Argentinian. He was a monster of midfield IMO.
The Strikers he kept out of the England squad tell you how good he really was. Nobody ever questioned why he was in the team.
people outside newcastle might say he's boring yet everyone of them wishes shearer was born in their town
One of the truly great no 9’s. Had he gone to United he’d have probably won much more. His goal scoring achievements at Blackburn and Newcastle was astonishing
Cheers mate.
Us Saints fans are feeling pretty shite ATM ...
No mention about Newcastles £20,000,000 mistake. He had trail at Newcastle as a teenager and was made to go in goal as they didn't have enough keepers.
Any chance of a Jefferson Farfan video?
Bro when will you make a video about Del Piero and his time at Juventus when they are in Serie B,I think this is great idea for video
My GOAT and legend for Newcastle(my favourite club)
Just a complete number 9.
Absolutely savage striker.
He even faced down Keane and lived 😂
The injury in pre season for Newcastle was his ankle and the 5 he scored against Sheffield Wednesday was sir bobby's 2nd game not 1st
meant that it was his first premier league game, regarding the injury, can you tell me what minute that was?
No one who remembers Shearer as a player thinks he's boring, not even close.
The video i waited for 😭
People forgot what a striker does, he scores goals. No matter what he found the net...
If I had to take Shearer for my team I would do it in a heartbeat
Alan Shearer gets so much disrepct on most podcasts and stuff on TH-cam. Nobody talks about him in conversations as the best striker ever in the league. I'm a Newcastle fan so I'm obviously biased but he was the world record transfer at the time when he came home. Had he of made the move to man utd, he would be talked about none stop
strange question but what's the source of the footage you used for the outside st. James' park during the shearer unveiling, because I think that kid in the middle is me, I still have that oversized scarf, would love it if I could find the source of the footage to verify, never knew there was recordings of it lol.
What a striker he was - there is no marksman quite like him today
his celebration is legendary for me
The fact he scored so many goals not playing at top clubs
