Before he was a 3x NBA Champion and 2x NBA MVP, Stephen Curry's career was at a worrying spot after he kept spraining his ankles. After undergoing two surgeries to his right ankle, Curry started a new rehab and strength program that revolutionized his health and built a solid foundation for the superstar career he would go on to have in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors. in this video I'm going to teach you about WHAT Steph Curry did and WHY it worked. Plus, I'm going to review some fundamental concepts and exercises that are used to help athletes prevent ankle sprains!

The easiest way to decrease risk of ankle sprains is to perform simple daily activities standing on one foot. Consistently brushing your teeth and washing your hands on one foot requires no extra time but can yield substantial improvements in proprioception and unilateral stability over time.

No, these activities only improve your non-dynamic stability and ankle endurance. They do not mimic high speed change of direction. The best way to get better at doing something is to do them more. Curry needs to learn how to land and cut more effectively.

After spraining my ankle, a physio recommended standing on one leg and bouncing a tennis ball against a wall for e.g. 30 for each leg. Once that gets easier, stand on a pillow instead to make the ground more uneven. This was just a nice cheap way to do the things here, but it's helped me a lot, can really feel those ankle, calf and shin muscles working.

Dean Harris I tore a ligament in my ankle (ATFL) in late February doing box jumps and since then haven’t been able to run or change directions, play basketball (my favorite sport) , or anything like that. All I can really do is walk and too much of that causes soreness/discomfort. I got an x ray and they didn’t know what was wrong with it. After months of my ankle not improving, (stopped getting better at about 70%) I decided to get an mri. It’s a pain to schedule an mri with the insurance companies it’s kind of like a last resort thing. The mri showed tears and scar tissue and fast forward to today when I got my surgery a few hours ago. Going to be out for around 8 weeks on top of the last few months where my activity was limited to just walking. Timing is really bad as I was in the middle of training to become a college level basketball player. It really fucking sucks man. Ankles are no joke

Thanks for this great video Brian, been going through some ankle sprains from basketball myself and will definitely try these rehab exercises, would you personally recommend a cheap or more expensive balance board? I don't mind paying more for a quality product

I feel like roller blading would help with most of it + the fun

Anything similar for knees? After an acl tear and between the injury and the surgery (bec of covid, they can't do it now)? I would love to hear about that. Thanks for the video. :)

Hi Brian are there any specific late stage drills one could do that would help with moving as one would on a bbal court? I have no problem running in a straight line but that is different from cutting, stopping and cutting again and then running down the court. any help would be appreciated
