Christmas came early! This looks very cool. Sadly, I no longer have my SD1 though. If I did, I would try this out for sure. Thank you for the great video, Shane.
I've been a long-time Microsoft user, dating back to Windows 6.0/6.5, Windows Phone 7/8/8.1, and Windows Mobile 10. While I was initially massively excited about the Surface Duo series, the early models fell short of expectations. After the disappointing lifecycle of the Surface Duo 2, I switched to the Apple ecosystem, impressed by their commitment to product support and continuous improvement. Their products support one another, they are more in-sync than anything else on the market. Personally, I now find the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to be a very compelling device they worked hard to produce vs what Microsoft could have offered, could have been. It's unfortunate that Microsoft's mobile division has struggled in the last decade and a half, especially considering their potential. It's hard to fathom how badly they failed in this segment.
This is exciting to see you doing an install of the ROM on the SD1! With Niagara Launcher and Be Nice pairing app this'll look great! Shout out from Singapore here!
This looks really good and just like you said it seems to be quite usable. To be able to get the majority look and feel of the Pixel Fold on the Duo is something I'm very interested in doing. I get pretty wonky, generally bad battery life on my Duo 1 running the last build of 12L so I can't imagine this being any worse than that. Do you mind testing the digitizer if you have a stylus laying around. For me it only ever works properly with OneNote, the stylus capability hasn't yet rolled out to Google Keep but leaks do show it's in the works. Thanks Shane, this is a great find.
Shane, Wasn’t there a problem with audio in the previous version? I can’t recall what it was specifically but you mentioned some audio function wasn’t working yet.
Thanks for this Shane. I did this on my DUO1, the only problem i'm having now is I don't have the onscreen keyboard, so I can't type anything on it. Do you have any idea?
Honestly the duo still looks like a great device, it only needed a folding screen. A windows version with a folding screen would have been so sick (full windows for gaming).
I wanna try a Surface Duo, but they're gonna be hard to find since Microsoft pulled the plug on its production. I would love to use it for trying AOSPs.
how is the phone connectivity like does it connect to 4G and can you make just phone calls? And does the camera work like its usable? no orientation errors or something? I remember having those stuff on the android 14 pixel rom :D
Camera is wonky, but usable. Cellular is a bit weird. I was able to text (didn't test a call), but no LTE. Just good ole G. Might be some settings to play with to improve things.
I've flashed the android 14 ROM and went back to stock. I'll have to try this one now! My question is... When i went back to the stock firmware i relocked the bootloader. But I've not done that on a custom ROM. Could the bootloader be relocked after flashing this Android 15 ROM? I have no real reason to do that, but I've always wondered if you could 😉

I would like to see a video which comprehensively examine why Microsoft created these phones, what type of customers they expected to buy the Duo, and did they believe the price point was acceptable to the intended customers. I am puzzled as to why a company which has failed several times to make phones that appeal to a mass audience, seemed to have punted with this line of phones. Wasting billions of dollars. The Duo line looks fantastic, but seemingly does not do any one task outstandingly.
Shout-out to Steve Litchfield for the inspiration on this one! I was a guest on The Phones Show a few days back! stevelitchfield.com/sshow/chat.html
This looks really good and I may just give this a go for my OG Duo. Thanks as always Shane for making these Duo videos still for us fans.

Great surface content 😊

I appreciate the love for the Duo 2. It deserves it.
Is it working on duo 2 ?
@AlexPaganfatgnome whoops my bad that's the gen1 duo ✅

That was in Windows. Audio is fine here.
@@scaryifliteralOhh, good! Thanks!
Do they have this for the duo 2?
Ooh yes please!
Plus 1
Please bring this to duo 2
What is brochure posture? Does android 15 know about trifold displays?
Not sure exactly what they're meaning tbh. Never heard that term.
Thanks for this Shane. I did this on my DUO1, the only problem i'm having now is I don't have the onscreen keyboard, so I can't type anything on it. Do you have any idea?
Interesting. No such issue for me. I would trying messing around with gboard. Force quit, disable, uninstall updates, enable it again, etc.
This is exciting, hope it comes to Duo 2!

Can I flash this rom to my HUAWEI matepad air? or my realme phone?

I wonder the security side. Is it safe?

Can people send in their surface duos so you can do this for payment ?
Nah, that's not something I want to get into
I use Microsoft duo 2 everyday in 2024
Duo on A15 before OPO. Damn.
Interesting, Now can it run but oxygen OS, I would rather have nothing to do with Microsoft. Thank you
it's only for duo1 ? works with duo2?
