    Maybe I should have made the marking clearer in this video. Jamie’s scores are based on how much he personally liked the guitars & which he’d be most likely to use/play. The scores don’t reflect build quality, and it’s just Jamie’s opinion. And don’t forget - all those “you’ve won something” comments that look like they’re from Andertons are ALL a scam. Cheers, Lee 🤘

      its not a secret.. modern guitars are just waaaaaaaaaaaay better to play.. all the modern ergonomics plus practical specs that just makes sense.. traditional guitar makers just want to stay in the 50s.. i think the industry should really just move on and make modern guitars the standard..

      @@jojojojojojojojojojojojobIt's all about opinion and how a different person playing different genres enjoys the feel of a guitar.

    • @275rambler
      @275rambler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bengribben569 The shorter scale length on the single cuts make them much more difficult to play than compared to an RG4 or Strat. The longer scale length of the double cuts require less string tension,making it easier to bend,slide,hammer on,pull off or vibrato.The term "suck" is comparitive.

    • @bengribben569
      @bengribben569 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@275rambler I have 9-42s on my longer scale length strats and 10-46s on my single cut ESP and they feel about the same, for me getting rid of the issue of string tension. Id argue your point on 'longer scale length requiring less string tension' is a bit backwards as with a longer scale length and tighter strings wouldn't most things become heavier and more difficult?
      I do see your point about the shorter scale length being more difficult to play tho, especially if you play closer to the bridge.

    I think ESP Eclipse/EC1000 in Vintage black is the ultimate modern metal single cut. I'd go Eclipse, PRS, Schecter Solo rules the market modern single cut market in mid-tier and high end guitars. Not to mention ESP/Schecters come with traditional models with PAF style pickups or the option for something more modern like Fluences or whatever. I do hope Jackson comes out with a USA Monarch line if their Soloists do better than the recent MJ Dinkys.

    Judging from his reactions, the Chapman had a big advantage of being a lot closer to his normally preferred guitars
    I do feel like this also proved that out of the more traditional modern LP-shaped guitars, ESP still absolutely kills it. I only recently was finally able to hunt down an Eclipse myself (and E-II, sadly very little shops in the Netherlands carry ESP guitars) and I can see why a lot of bands started playing ESP's. They are just very very refined guitars.
    Perhaps a bit too much, I personally like it, but I can see how some people feel like they're a bit too much the same. The binding on the one I got really shows the craftsmanship though, I have tried a good few Gibsons and there's always some scuffedness about the binding, or some toolmarks on the fretboard. None of that whatsoever on the ESP's, absolute perfection, despite having actual binding. (the binding on mine has already started going ever so slightly cream-colored)

    There's nothing wrong with proving that a Chapman was better than the others? It's all down to preference anyway.

    I've got a Chapman ML-2 - I paid $300 for it used and it's fantastic - beats all my other guitars hands down. It's the one I play out with. Great pickups, 24 frets, big neck, lightweight, stays in tune. I'm thinking of getting another--the Peter Greenish Goldtop.

  • @SoCalDrone4u

    I have the Jackson MF-1 Purple Mirror. I would have rated it higher than a 6. His amp tone didn't bring out its full potential. It's a great guitar. Yes, it is heavy. I've never seen one for $899. Retail goes for $1,349. I got mine for $990. So glad I bought it. It looks great and sounds better with the right tone.

    • @ReprobateMind
      @ReprobateMind 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a Epi Muse for a while and my first guitar was their special II. The special was a great starter and the Muse blew me away. Looked amazing felt amazing sounded amazing and was very versatile, like the Modern. I hadn't had much experience back then and I can't say what it's like for playing metal as I hadn't trained my light hand enough to play metal back then.
      Great guitars the "new (2019 whenever it was) line" from Epiphone. The pickups distort nicely for rock tones but if you want some serious metal stuff they sound a bit muddy under a lot of gain, but I imagine you'd be after an EMG equipped guitar if that's what you wanted. Basically the closest thing you can get to Gibson Modern for a couple grand discount. The finish on them can feel a little "plasticy" and stick to your hand but Nitro Gibson has that issue, it's thicker and Poly on the Epiphones but unless you've played a few Gibson's or nitro guitars you wouldn't even notice it. Was after the Caribbean fade Modern for a while but went with the Muse, Had an amazing time with it but it was too pretty and too pristine to play like i wanted so it sat on a stand for a month or so til I sold it. So maybe buy one used with a ding or two so you don't have that issue, probably get a hundred or so quid off as well.
      There is always the save a bit longer and get a low end Gibson, with a satin finish (better in my opinion I play the low end ones more than the glossy one) but that really comes down to, do you like the feel of the Epiphone in your hands, when you play it and will you use all the fancy, in/out of phase/ coil split features the high end Epi's have? If not you might be better with the low end Gibson, Now is a good time to look as I've seen Les Paul Studios up for around 600 which could probably be talked down a bit.
      I didn't use the fancy features and when recording the layers of the Gibson tracks sit nicer in the mix and don't muddy it up like the Epiphone can sometimes do, so I went for the low end Gibson option, but that doesn't mean you can't get the Epiphone and buy some Gibson/ other brand pickups and get better results than i do.
      Just go and find a shop that has one, take a day trip out and play a couple high end Epiphones and see, if you really like it you know which one is for you! The muse might be an option as well if you don't might the bright metallic, vaguely feminine finishes. It's all a personal choice mate no one can tell you which guitar you'll like I can only say what I've liked but you might hate them, just have to see. but I'd rather waste a train ticket to a big city than a percent of the guitar when you have to resell it if you don't like it, as they don't hold like Gibsons would. I was lucky I had the box and maybe put 25 minutes of play time on it so I could say it was basically new and knocked 40 quid off.

    I think he wood grin with joy at the sound of that demo!
    I've had my eye on his line of guitars but haven't pulled the trigger on one yet.
    ...3 out of 10???? Captain's face?! PRICELESS!!
    oh, for playing Metal bahhh! so funny! and makes sense.
    it's a great guitar, for other styles
    Next!
    Jerry's guitar is more versatile. I say, active pickups to passive are, as to, solid state to tube amps. just sayin'. It's ALL good.
    It's simply the new way toward people playing multiple styles on less guitars and/or less amps.
    LTD .... Evertune. New tech. again, opportunity to travel with less guitars on a tour... etc
    Brian Welch model...
    If you don't play a PRS MT I'll be surprised and...
    Jackson way cool looking! and see?! passive pickups that tricked our ears. I would have guessed active pups as well.
    Chapman looks comfortable to play.... love the brand. Bea/Rob nuff said.
    hah!! now it's a 10 lol
    ahhhh, the PRS SE Tremonti (wish list guitar, surprise) the pickups seemed disappointing; concerning harmonics. easy fix, but seriously?
    they should scream. I would have thought it would rate an 8 to tie the score but who's counting :)
    great video!
