    Thank you all for your support so far! If you liked the video please like and consider subscribing or even sharing it with other aviation minded people! It gives me a good indication on how well the video is received and also helps with getting the video seen by others! It's been great so far thank you!

    It's an old story, as old as the history of aviation, what happens when one tries to salvage an unsalvageable approach. If they had just extended downwind until they were in better shape this all could have been avoided.

    • @CuriousPilot90
      @CuriousPilot90  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Absolutely! Or went around and carried out another circuit, it would have added a few minutes to the flight. Unfortunately very avoidable.

    Flying a taxi jet,singlöe pilot,is sheer madness.If anything goes amiss,loose your autopilot,depressurization,partial panel,emergency electrical configuration,you have your hands full with two pilots...Imagine being alone.Really a bad idea.Great channel,great work.Thank you.

    As you said still pilot error, unstabilized approach, especially to a short runway, go around and try again. My biggest lesson on this was actually as a jump seater. We were taxiing out as the crew were working on a MEL question when one set of instrument lights appeared to be out. The copilot was working the light issue when the captain just announced "We're going back to the gate, too many distractions". Break the chain. Ten minutes at the gate and a consult with a mechanic and we were taxiing back out distraction free. Unstabilized approach in a high performance aircraft - just break the chain, go around, take a deep breath, and do it right the second time.

      Was the runway short or did the pilot touch down over halfway of the runway with also a too high airspeed at that

    Hey Bud, I found your channel a week or so ago. I am so proud of you for working toward your wings. Way 2 go. I have been up in the air a handful of times and it is so amazing. The feeling of being propelled into the sky is the best feeling ever. Before I drift off to sleep every night I listen to accident investigations. Learning the physics behind flight intrigues me so. Keep up the great work. If ever you are in Los Angeles check out a cool place to eat called, "The Proud Bird." Great place to go to check out planes n relax. Stay up my friend!!

    Absolutely correct analysis. When it comes to the rescue effort, that is really amateurish. If I was the driver on such an emergency vehicle, I would simply have run the gate down and taken the consequences later. There are few things that will stop one of these firetrucks, once they're moving, and certainly not a gate. Great episode!

    I know it's easy to judge a pilot as a non pilot but it just seems incredible that anybody would try to land an airplane under very bad conditions, even if they are under stress, anxiety or whatever.

    • @gnarthdarkanen7464
      @gnarthdarkanen7464 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems like the easiest answer in the world... "Just go around, get stable... take a breath and try again." BUT it's amazing how counter-intuitive that becomes when the bells and chimes and whistles are all going off, the cockpit is full of cheesy, electronic voice-overs bitching about terrain, other aircraft, telling you to pull up... check speed.. reset one or another thing, and lights start blinking... AND suddenly, the ONLY thing on your mind is "get me the HELL on the g** d*** GROUND!!! NOW!!!" and that's all you can manage to think of.
      There are moments when the ONE thing that can save your life becomes the HARDEST thing you'll ever have to do, even just triggering the radio to say, "Nah, go around... this approach is no good for me." ;o)

    • @konewone361
      @konewone361 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would have thought the gate would not be a problem for a heavy crash fire vehicle. Should have been able to simply push through it. Worry about the cost of the gate later.

    When depicting and describing an air crash, please demonstrate the breakup of the plane as it comes in contact with the obstacles. For example, in this video, the plane fails to come to a stop. It struck a berm past the end of the tarmac, afterwards encountered motor vehicles in a car park. Please demonstrate the impact of the initial and subsequent contact with those obstacles.

  • @josephconnor2310

    Pilot probably did feel pressure to land instead of performing a go-around because of his high-profile clients. Possibly like the kobe bryant case in that way.

  • @amamdawhatever
    @amamdawhatever หลายเดือนก่อน

    Not exactly a stable approach... The big takeaway is to slow down, give yourself space and don't skip the procedures. Why he was at 170 KIAS, who knows... With that much traffic in an uncontrolled airport it would have been been prudent to be configured to land at ~120ish while flying the pattern. It may have also been prudent to ask the smaller aircraft to land and extend the downwind as he was the faster aircraft. Give way rules do apply. It would have cost them 15 minutes, but he could have set up a longer, more stabilized approach, cleared out the immediate traffic and, you know, survived.
    Sometimes deconfliction is key and other pilots are happy to oblige if it means having a safer environment to fly. Trust me, having been in both seats; in a 100 knot aircraft, you don't want to be buzzing around business jets, just as much as they don't want to be dodging you! When you are flying those biz jets, accept that you must give way to slower aircraft and plan accordingly.

      So ... God lets Osama kill thousands of people in several countries, cause huge suffering to many others, then 16 years later God takes out his brother in law, his half sister, her mom, and their pilot, and destroy a bunch of random people's cars? If that's "divine intervention," how would "incompetent dumbass intervention" work? 🤔

    Not gonna lie, I was listening for “ums and ers”, lol. This is a really great second entry to your channel. Will you continue doing these “lesser known” crashes? There’s so much coverage of things like Tenerife or TWA 800, but the smaller stuff barely makes the local news.

    In the end, the PIC makes the final decisions how to operate the aircraft! With everything going on, this pilot had to be uncomfortable throughout the final minutes of flight! A go around might make someone angry, but better than ending up being incinerated in a fire ball.

  • @chipsawdust5816

    The only part on the accident report that matters - pilot error.
    His overload was at least partially self-induced. He didn't seem to be paying attention to flying the airplane.
    First rule of aviation: Fly the plane.

      @TomCook1973 - Superfluous to the narrative. Especially if you owned a car that was taken out in the car park. Focus on the pilot actions and the mechanical state of the aircraft first. Who sits in back is not of concern.
