I'm 73 years old & I can walk on my hands reasonable well - - not perfect !!! I began training in December of last year by 1) building my shoulder & arm muscles by doing vertical push ups against a wall. After that 2) I practiced falling over on a rubber mat without injuring myself. Finally 3) I just started kicking up into a handstand and attempting to find my balance point. That was the most difficult part. It took me 5 - 6 days before I could "walk" 20 feet. So that is my advice 1) strength, 2) learning how to "fall" without injury & 3) finding the balance point. This was much easier than learning how to unicycle.
I am 72 years old, and I can do up through Level 3. I am meeting resistance with Level 4!!!! I have not been able to take more than 2 steps. Glad to know you got over the hump. I have to get over the mental block and fear of falling. Not there yet, but will keep after it! I was glad to see your post about being successful from someone in my same age bracket.
@@garyleewallen I practiced on rubber mats that I purchased at Harbor Freight that I used for other purposes and I practiced on my yard. Both will absorb considerable shock if you do fall over. Never practice on a hard surface.
Without knowing it, I've been stuck at level 4/5 for MONTHS! I'm strong enough but just cant get comfortable with the feeling of tipping forward off the wall and on the open forward. Sometimes I get lucky and can do about 5 feet, but its very very rare. I'll definitely be sweet talking someone to help me with the braced PVC drill! Thank you for breaking down the progressions very simply!
The videos and demos were fantastic…I’m a Masters Athlete who is stuck on Level 3. When I’m feeling “it” some days I try to HSW which is basically me donkey kicking up stumbling forward a few quick steps and falling over… Obviously not safe or effective!!! I’m looking forward to trying this progression and fingers crossed I see results. Thanks for sharing… In Health T. Johnson
Brilliant video 👏🏻 Thank you so much for posting 🙏🏻🙏🏻 May I please ask for strengthening exercises if one cannot remove one hand off the floor when doing a handstand against the wall? Thank you very much 🤩😃
I’m at level 4. I didn’t know I was level 4 till today. I was trying the “kick up and start walking while trying not to die” method... but level 4 is much better. I got a couple of steps!! Thank you!!! As always you guys are awesome. Like/subscribe/bell/share
I really need to dial in this skill for the WODs. I'm currently kicking up, getting a few feet as fast as possible and coming down. I'm going to add this into my daily warm-ups starting from level 1 just to make sure I correct any errors so I can put my best foot (or hand, haha!) forward! Great video, thank you for the help, you also helped me determine what pull-up grips I want to get. You have yourself a new subscriber!
This is great! I can do the wall walks and I can do the shoulder taps but I tried to skip straight to free standing HSW. I had a spotter the other day and that was helpful but I want to try the step where you walk away from the wall! I think that will be super helpful! Thanks for the video
I am firmly at level 0! This is my target for this year,, to handstand walk by November 2022. Last year was 4*4*48. Got to keep giving yourself a target….push past comfort 😂
This is a great video...but you didn't address the "nose-to-wall" then falling over landing flat on my back and torquing my neck and head part. You also didn't address whether (I) need to be able to hold a freestanding handstand hold before/to be able to start trying to handstand walk. (I can't) I am the only person that crashes over on my back? I have pre-existing neck and back problems, so I'm particularly not excited about this! Also, I'm sure that if I was a tween this would be no big deal...but I am 61f! PS: Handstand hold (1+minute), strict HSPUs, and regulation wallwalks, against wall I can do. Thank you!
Stage 3 but always kick into the wall. I love this and excited about trying it. Especially with the kiddos because they catch on way faster than I do. I am a master athlete - 51 and would love anything you can share
I’ve been trying hard to make progress by doing eccentrics and walking around with my feet on a box but when it comes to picking my hands up in the handstand hold position-I can’t!! I’m stuck! I can rock slightly but that’s about it! How do I move forward from this point?
Yeah it is more challenging on less stable/flat surfaces! Just gotta keep practicing! All depends if you NEED to be able to walk on surfaces other than gym floor though...

What age did you learn it ?
5-6 days?!! I’d be happy with 5-6 months, but expecting years!
Very inspiring, glad to hear you keep your body strong and healthy

I thought for sure you were going to say HSPU we’re going to be the prerequisite here, but this makes more sense.
Oh man! I took some great take-aways from your video. You best believe I subscribed brother. That by far is the best way to support a handstand walk.
This is my #1 skill I want to get this next year. So frustrating. I have been super inconsistent. Your demo model looking alright 😍
Yeah, we realize that Shona does better demo-ing than I do.... ;)
@@WODprep haha 😂
I subscribed because of Alfred
Love your explanations. It really helps a lot. Thank you!

Great video. I think I am ready for Level 5. Thanks!
great levels and explanations! I will follow this tutorial and share it with you
I’m at level 4. I didn’t know I was level 4 till today. I was trying the “kick up and start walking while trying not to die” method... but level 4 is much better. I got a couple of steps!! Thank you!!!
As always you guys are awesome.

You're welcome! Any way that I can take "trying not to die" out of learning a movement is a win ;)
I have to be honest. Alfred was in the right place at the right time! I had to hit that subscribe!
haha! How could you not?? Appreciate it
Love this! I’m at Level 1-2 and working on my Handstand Walk! I love these drills and I appreciate you guys sharing.
sooo helpful, thank you!
I'm at level 3. Level 4 gives a great option for practicing on my own.
So practical you are a gem.
Thank you!

Very helpful, really appreciate the Level 5 progression...have had the "arm spot" experience. My rotator cuff doesn't like arm spots anymore!
The PVC pipe trick will really help!
Very underrated channel

Nicely done. That's one of my goals for the coming year. Thanks for the info.
2020 HSW here you come Marvin!
Awesome spot on advise as always Thankyou
You're welcome!
I’m at level 4 but I’m going to keep working on level 3 to make my taps smoother
This is actually a helpful tutorial. Interesting how you teach the gymnastics version (also preferred version I would day). Ben are you an ex gymnast?
I'm on level four can you do more please
Well i tried level one , certainly couldn't get that close to the wall , my hands were about 12" away . But its a start . So i shall perceive
Where can I find an index or comprehensive list of skills and priorities on your channel? How much do walks contribute to strength?
I requested the free training but didn't get it. Overall great vídeos.
level 4
Can you do one on pushups, if you haven’t already??
Great suggestion!

PVC pipe assistance is great idea!
Let me know if you try it!
Hi Alfred
👌
Great content 👍🏻
How long does it take from level one to a decent hand walk for a beginner like me. I can do like 10 pull ups and around 45 push-ups
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’m at Level 5, and how do I proceed from here?
Do some portions of the video seem like they're at 1.5x speed?
I love handstand but I can't figure out how to do the handstand walk
I’ve been trying hard to make progress by doing eccentrics and walking around with my feet on a box but when it comes to picking my hands up in the handstand hold position-I can’t!! I’m stuck! I can rock slightly but that’s about it! How do I move forward from this point?
Practice the nose-to-wall "hand lifts".
Nice😅
4\5
Wow. I am just stuck at Level 4 at the moment. I will kick out, but I will fall! I can't control it. 😭😭😭
Keep practicing, these things take time. Use my free guide too: wodprep.com/handstand-walks/
I kinda worked
The problem in my handstand walk is the ground material, whenever i go smowhere other than the gym all the stability goes away lol
Yeah it is more challenging on less stable/flat surfaces! Just gotta keep practicing! All depends if you NEED to be able to walk on surfaces other than gym floor though...
My best handstand record is 5.26 seconds.
I'm 292929292 years old and I can do every single flexible trick
Lvl 1 is too scary. I might fall over.
It’s also tough to stand in that position for 30s
I want to be able to do this so I won’t look dumb and falling at wrestling practice 😭
I stuck in level 4
Alfred 😂😂😂😂😂
Ok wait wait wait how do you kick up nose to the wall ?
Wall walk!
@@WODprep thanks !
ah shoot. I wanna do that hand stand rock but seeing my goddamn shitty shoulder mobility made me realize I need to be comfortable with mobility.
