Downpour is almost class S. I played him with not much expectation. And he feels like he buffs minors to be stronger than even some major powers. He is super fun to play, with lots of decision. He is definitely one of a kind.
@@BeingFriends owww and downpour is my 2nd most favorite spirit in game He could have been my #1 fave, if only he is not that analysis paralysis, or a headache to use
I've only played a few games of this, but downpour is by far my favorite out of the ones I've played- - lightning with both the fear/strife and immense aspects - stone's unyielding defiance - downpour - thunderspeaker - river surges - one other i can't remember right now
That one always makes me giggle when I play it, and I like to imagine all kinds of cartoonish situations happening to/on the island, with the focus on the "unexpected" part :)
I have to give Keeper of the Forbidden Wilds an S because as a newbie to Spirit Island this supposedly moderate complexity spirit just resonated with my mindset and just made the game so fun and easy. And with that fun I keep coming back to try and get to grips with others spirits and to see what they have to offer. ...not to mention scenario's and adversaries.
@@swvi9459 I agree, but I don’t think they were using that criteria for their tier list. It seemed much more like they were just picking the ones they liked playing the most. Otherwise Lightning and River would have been A or S tier
Just got this game, had some trouble learning the basics for my solo plays but decided to take a chance and play the Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares solo. That spirit is OP as hell. It may say more complex on the back but I'm winning by turn 5 or 6 consistently and it's crazy how powerful it is.
To be fair the fear threshold solo is quite small at just 4 and when you’re easily generating 18-20 fear each turn…well I think I speak for everyone when I say that gets out of hand very fast. Anyways hope you keep enjoying the game!
@@allknighter5791 that's a very good point! Didn't think about that. It's been a blast so far! I've asked for the expansions for Christmas so that will be fun as well!
@@AnimatronicBadgerlord Haha same here, hopefully I get Jagged Earth this Christmas, wish me luck! Also the new expansion for the game is coming out November 17th and the new trailer for it just dropped! Now if you thought bringer of dreams and nightmares brought the pain you haven’t seen anything yet
I almost agree to your list with one big exeption: The very first spirit you evaluated. "Rampant Green" is the one spirit I played the most by far, because for me its so much fun but honestly I can totally understand why people find it kind of boring. Also Im not so sure that I would put Nightmare in Tier S just because of its funny limitation. But all in all a great list!
I love spreading presence quickly and also being able to support others and so enable them a large power boost often…It can defend so well which I love, doesn’t permanently lose its presence, and can do some decent damage with innate ability. Even in solo explorers can’t be deal with easily but you can prevent builds and ravages even by playing 2 presence cards in fast faze, and since you place presence so quickly you can spam some power cards that take care of what you need
I'm just getting back into the game after only playing the old spirits years ago. I absolutely fell in love with ocean. So glad an old favorite made it to S
In a game I played we had Ocean's hunger, shifting memories and Starlight. We Briny Deep the 2 lands, Dream of Untouched land then Briny Deep the last original land for the sac victory. In my opinion one of the most thematic wins with the spirits we we're running.
Serpents absorb essence ability is arguably its most useful "support" abilities because it allows the innate power "Serpent Wakes In Power" consistently apply to allies who have been absorbed. Its like a support investment.
I love the idea of Dreams and Nightmares! And the thought you had about playing the card tsunami to get them to run away, but what I thought was funny is that you could push them towards the ocean 😂 and then have Hungry Grasp doing his thing, which is like a killer combo
I did this today paired with my friend as Vital Strength copying it. We actually won from the fear generation before the second one hit, the invaders were like "aw HELL nah!" 😂
Really wish River got more love! I think it’s S tier against everyone except high level England. If you pair it with Ocean as well, then it can beat literally anyone
i think youre totally right. River is very powerful and honestly I kinda forgot how much I enjoyed River! but the tier list wasnt all that much about power level!! now again, in retrospect i probably would put it higher.
As someone just getting into more complex board games, but is already experienced with complex strategy games on PC, would you recommend spirit island as a good purchase?
100%!!!!!! It is so wonderful. if you aren't intimidated by complexity and brain burning decision making and are interested in the theme whatsoever, this game is for you.
Recently started playing it on Steam and I fell in LOVE with this game. I really like every spirit so far. And it's HARD. I really enjoyed Thunderspeaker and Vital Strength of the Earth so far the most. I also enjoyed Ocean's Hungry Grasp a lot but I don't know how I can win it solo because of the inland invaders. Sharp Fangs Behind the Leaves is my least favourite so far.
One thing about Serpent: once you have found a way to trigger the innate Armageddon you can basicly reclaim all your cards to do it again next turn. It's insanely powerful and probably one of the powers which are closest to an endgame button. Super cool, super game climax. Probably frustrating if you don't get to use it, and maybe even a bit samey. But the way to even get there is really hard and interesting because you very much rely completely on your teammates (at least you support them at this time same as them supporting you) Really cool spirit, haven't played enough to rank him, but right now definitely on my top memories of this game
The beauty of the asymmetry in this game is that it is incredibly subjective in what clicks the most with each player's personality and how they feel that day. Such incredible design. If you play solo multihanded then having low complexity spirits is helpful, well, at least to my limited memory. Others might be able to do several high complexity spirits at once.
@@BeingFriends I could understand that, if you set some standards then you could use those to judge the Spirits. Example the speed of which they gain presence, or how they handle different points. It could be done many different ways, I think and none of them would be right or wrong
It would be interesting if there was a spirit based off of what invader cards are on the board. Where it gets stronger when Tier II and III invader cards are on the board.
He should have played Many Minds! I really like the combination of defending and fear and its super unique, no other spirit does this. And I really like that he uses animals for it. I'm not a huge fan of Sharp Fangs because he has to kill his animals all the time or the animals kill invaders, so in the event step there are nearly never animals and invaders on the same land. Many Minds uses the animals to produce fear and defend, so after the quick powers there are a bunch of animals in lands with invaders and every event card with an animal effect is so much better.
its really cool right?! Its gotta be pretty powerful too, especially pared with bringer. SO much fear, plus, having many minds to help keep things safe would be huge. I could agree about Sharp Fangs, though I do have alot of fun with him!
@@BeingFriends it is damn powerfull. I generated 38fear in one round in a 3 player game by making good use of the beasts and being lucky to get the perfect event which generated 1fear per beast in a land with invaders. I got 16 beasts in lands with invaders.
I kind of have to disagree with you on Vital Strength of the Earth. He is such a powerful defender that if you play him a certain way, you can make it so he defends in the beginning and unleashed heavy major offensive powers, I love the fact that you add a presence every growth, and the fact that sacred sites defend 3 automatically, you could see a explorer explore a land, put a presence their, let them build, put another presence, and it’s defended from the town and invader
16:38 I wont buy the expansion because they don't have low complexity spirits in them i want versatility or power, the expansion from what i read are let down on both desires i would buy any.
2:36 the most powerfully spirit and my favorit of the game (from what i read from the expansions and most I did check) and the the best support only gets a C rank , i know this is not going an enlightening list but a more curiosity :D
15:26 the first thing you do with lightning after the firt's play is recalim and discard 3 for one damage or speed for others for a MAJOR power as such he is the only spirit that builds on shooting a major power as soon possible (in base game), adn that makes him fun :D
14:03 not low at all I found Lightning my faw for it made me think most, and adapt most, its one of the most powerful, most changing most fun spirits but also need to be played very well. Because its need for random grow it is high complexity in my book (defiantly harder to play it well than even dream)
I go for power got the base game, dont plan on more so far River,Earth,Lightning, and Wood are my top 4 faws top powerful River and wood all 4 gets a 5/5. I also love Bringer even do i did not found how to play it more powerful than a rate 4/5 so far i dislike Shadow 3/5
udf only you guys did not put my faw spirits on the botom , Thunder bird and Earth thy are the 2 who can use big powers while most spirits are limited on small cards.
those are both great spirits for sure!! Also, I have found Keeper of the Wilds, Forgotten Memory of Ages, Ocean, and bringer are all able to play a lot of Major powers as well!! Those are four of my favorite spirits for that very reason actually:)
definitely a strong spirit! especially against england! D tier when it comes to spirit island is still a fantastic spirit tbh. We just couldnt put them all in B, A, and S tier 😂😂😂
