It feels like we’re finally starting to get somewhere with this RV restoration! *Watch more RV videos here* 🎥 th-cam.com/play/PL29AtJe_IGx_hb6wCY5-xyznc0A74vO7M.html
For the exterior aluminum what you really want are rivets, not staples. Rivets can go through the existing holes while staples will make 2 new holes. Less holes are always better.
You guys rock. We bought a 1977 Winnebago Brave three years ago and had a blast restoring her. Hang in there when you hit the unexpected problems. Remember, the renovation is part of the adventure. Keep the RV videos coming.
The thing I like about you guys is that you're really positive about fixing this RV up, sorting the rotten wood, old sealant etc etc. So many resto projects I've seen have made it look so hard and frustrating to do this sort of work. You guys are just powering through it with such a positive attitude, it's lovely. :-)
Times are hard. Thank you for keeping to work. I enjoy whatever it is. We own a food truck in Kansas, We too have found new ways to make it work. We cut our cable ... gosh 10 years ago. So we enjoy whatever you put out.
You have gave me the confidence I need to start on my 88 ford Econoline. Saving all winter to start in the spring. Watching all ur old videos for loads of help😊ty so much for sharing ❤❤❤
I don’t know what I’m more excited for, your renovation or the adventures you guys have! I absolutely love how far you’ve got so far! She’s beautiful 🥰
Thanks, Zoe! We're having a blast and learning so much! We can't wait to finally be done with the cab and move on the rest of the RV. Although, I'm sure we'll come across a whole new slew of problems back there 😅
Agreed. Fair enough if they were going to restore it, but looks like they are just renovating it. They probably think it's just like doing up an old home. It's going to be a disaster
I'm happy you two were able to pivot and continue living the adventure. I'm loving the RV renovation and look forward to all your travel adventures here in the states.
As someone who has trouble assembling IKEA furniture, I find your efforts hilarious. Thanks for having a sense of humor about your project. It's really fun to watch!
meganhodges, too bad they didn't wear masks in the store where they bought the pneumatic stapler. Not positive at all. Sad that they both wore masks during the demo, but NOT going out in public. BTW, the snowflakes that responded to my post - Did any of you go to the BOK Center on Saturday in Tulsa? BAAAAHHHAAAHHHAA
I have been watching you guys for a long time now and I must say that it has been very entertaining. Your travel and food experiences have been very enjoyable and informative to watch. To be able to travel and enjoy the hospitality that other countries have to offer is a wonderful thing. If you ever find yourself back in Wales please drop me a line. I would love to show you some of the sites that my little corner of Wales has to offer. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to seeing the RV completion. Stay safe and well.
The front overhang window? Get some aluminum and cover that hole up! I wish I would have done that on mine! That window takes road debris and high wind and always leaked or broke. At some point, most Class C builders just stopped putting windows there! Cover it up and move on.....
I was saying that during the video. The window is angled perfectly for ultimate failure. A new piece of metal and and some matching paint will make future inevitable leaks not possible.
I thought I was handy but there are some tools I won’t touch, like anything that can slice my arm off. You two are very handy even tho you say you aren’t! By the time you’re done, you’ll know every inch of that rig. Don’t get discouraged if things look overwhelming at first and just keep working on it when you can. Great video.
It's amazing how you figure out all the math and cuttings. Wow, You guys are sure handy. You're definitely more than travelers! With your positive attitude and supporting each other, it's easy to see how you accomplish so much. Look forward to the next vlog!
The framing.. brilliant job you guys. Despite the hard work, it will pay off in the long run. There's nothing worse than the regret of cutting corners.
I absolutely love these new videos! Just a friendly reminder to please keep wearing your masks any time you are in an indoor public space (even if there doesn’t seem to be that many people around) as it is the best way to protect everyone around you (including those who have to interact with the public to make a livelihood). It would be great to see you normalizing it for your many followers :)
Joyce, I can only assume you’re a person who thinks masks are a “political statement “ and the virus is not serious... God forbid you do a simple, kind, inexpensive gesture for people who are or have loved ones who are immunocompromised or elderly...
I think if I were you at this stage I would have been sleeping in that fresh wood smelling RV ;-). yes under the custom rain cover . lol just to make sure water didn't leak in...and do just keep looking at the awesome work. lol Congrats you two!!!!!!!
I thought you guys were nuts when you bought this RV but this is a great series watching the renovation. I can't wait until it is done and we get to see it being used!
Beginning to take shape... good job so far. Thanks for sharing your endeavors. Stay safe, be good, and God bless you. Pastor Dean, Christian Life Church, Kissimmee FL.
Way to go you guys! Taking on a conversion is not easy! We started our skoolie in September and thought we would be done in February! The other day we made a list of all the things we still want to do until we roll out into the wild. We still have 70 things on our list! Lol! Wishing you guys so much fun, adventure and acquired new skills! You will be sooo much more proud of this project than you could ever imagine! The bond Brian + I are creating through this journey is amazing as well! You’ve already travelled together, if you can get through this together... you really will be indestructible! Hehe big love adventure friends! Erin + Brian too
"Mnemonic" ... plug that compressor hose into those words! Just yankin your chain; you guys are fun to watch and doing some good work. I sincerely hope your build turns out well. As with all things construction related, I project that you will spend nearly double what you expect on tools and supplies ($15 for a box of screws!?). One tip I've learned -- try to stick to the same type of fastener head; you don't want to be in there with 4 different screw types; those Spax you bought are the way to go!
You could just block off the front window, if you can find matching aluminum. It is a sleeping area so you don't need a window, but if you do go for a replacement window, to stop it leaking in the future make sure you seal it, seal it again and seal it one more time just to be sure. When you're driving that area gets all the weather thrown at it.
Genial Harry Grout gotta have a window up there...if I absolutely had to sleep up there a window is a must. Just thinking about it shoots my claustrophobia sky high.
Wow great progress so far. 😀😀😀 For someone who knew absolutely nothing about fixing or repair stuff, you both surely are doing a great job!!! 🛠️ 🧰 👷Keep it up!
We have a travel unit similar to yours and it worked great. Make that bunk above the driver seat and so forth with the straight edge towards your main area of the unit. You will find you do not need that U-shaped open area above your head’s. Just put some good foam rubber padding over it in case you bump your head and build it straight across. It makes it much easier when you want to sleep up there. How about things like the toilet does it work? How about the water system how’s the pump?. Guess you’ll get to them later!
I’m so happy I found you guys the last few weeks. I am now going back and watching all of your adventures. Love what you do. Thanks for doing the RV. I only wish you would take a middle-age lady along on your tips with you. Let me know if you’re interested.
Such an ambitious project! Love watching this process and I can’t wait to see the result! Looking forward to future videos of you traveling the country in your RV.
And you guys are doing this for the first time ever? No prior experience?? Wow. I am very impressed. Honestly, you guys are pulling the outer panelling off, that's something different from just remodeling the interior. You guys give me and my girlfriend hope! We are planning on renovating an old RV as well (hopefully soon) European caravans aren't as beautiful as the American variants, though.
Hi, I think what you are doing is just great, go with your intuition, the results are generally positive. There are always many who 'know it all'. Keep up the good videos. ... Regards, Ivan in Canada.
The one thing that I probably would do differently is put a layer of bituthane roof sealant inside the bunk to create a watertight barrier and prevent future leaking before putting the wood frame on. Bituthane also helps dampen thermal bridging which will reduce the amount of heat loss/gain through the wood that is contacting the aluminum exterior.
Love watching you guy working on the cab. You are doing a great job with the wood. I assume you are using more than one screw for each connection. You need two to secure the peices, otherewise it is just a pivot piont at each connection. Try it with a couple of pieces of scrap wood. I work with wood and would also recommend you glue AND screw any joints. The cab is more like a piece of furnature rather than a static structure, like a house. The cab will shift as you drive, so the glue will keep everything together a lot longer and will keep it dryer by limiting movement. You can do this by loosening each joint a little and injecting glue and then retighting the screw. It doesn't have to be pretty but will keep everything together much better..

You are so good at building! That framing is fantastic!
Love watching you!

Love this, love seeing the journey
Loving your renovation videos! X
Great job . Are you giving the camper van a re-spray. it would look good with a fresh coat of paint
It’s amazing how every TH-cam couples travelers channels is doing and rebuilding their new vans.
Fly Sky yes Eamon and Bec,Trent and Allie are building a new little house too!
I would have build installation so the car would be winter proof.
For the exterior aluminum what you really want are rivets, not staples. Rivets can go through the existing holes while staples will make 2 new holes. Less holes are always better.
I think staples will rust too.
Stainless steel rivets would be the best.
Ask Coachmen how you can do it properly.
Yes to rivets!
Never tried rivets into wood , I used galavanized staples into pressure treated wood, I had to rebuild the overhead on a coachman also

Watching you renovate such an old and worn out RV gives me confidence to work on mine! It's not even that damaged and old!

Thanks for sharing your reno with us! You too are amazing. Have fun on your local adventure!!!!

So satisfying when all the old trash is taken away 😀

Ahhh fingers crossed the bad weather clears up soon! Such a massive journey guys, loving watching the progress! 🙌
Love it that you call it 'vintage', I'm as old / young at 'The Old Girl'. I prefer to think of myself as 'retro'!
Y'all are so brave venturing into the unknown!
Laying on my couch with Coronavirus and this video made me so happy. I love you guys, thanks for always being such a positive influence❤️

New framing looks great. Pocket holes are the way to go. Used same technique to fix water damage to frame on a truck camper.
You are good in the wood shop! Cannot wait to see the finished product!
