We managed to see both lots of fireworks in Newcastle last night... the tea-time ones were best, but I wasn't in a very good position to film them, and they were music-synched so the footage wouldn't have got through youtube's copyright filter anyway. These are the midnight ones on the Quayside ... a lot shorter, and with fewer distinct effects, but still a decent show (especially considering the fact that they're mostly funded by the local bars and restaurants). The positioning was a lot better this year, with both launch sites in the same line of view (last year it was like watching two separate displays which happened to be going on at the same time), but the shell volleys are still being launched from _much_ too far away. This display would've been *awesome* if the shells were actually breaking overhead (like they did at the civic centre display) rather than half a mile down the road. Still, a good atmosphere, a good crowd, and a nice way to see in the new year. Happy new year! :)
