Great review Mirin, I think you have captured the essence of what makes the Legato special. It is a specialist somewhat niche iem that is surprisingly versatile. The tuning - especially when used in conjunction with spatial DSP (ie. using a PS5 watching Prime, Netflix, or playing certain games) - has a vast depth. The upper mids a bit blunted, however your brain acclimates to this type of tuning with your ears just having work a bit more to hear some of these sounds. I would say this is more of a problem in some cases such an action movie, where some voices may be hard to hear, especially with soundtrack and other things going on (ie. I might not watch Tenet on these lol, or maybe I would!). In comparison, something like a Shuoer S12 will just present the full spectrum more immediately, and this type of tuning would be a safe choice for most. That said, I find myself reaching for the Legato more and more. Like many reviewers have commented, the top end is actually quite sweet on these and finely detailed. The mids are nice as well, and all of this remains well separated from the thunderous yet clear bass. For techno, dubstep, electronica, and ambient genres this IEM is incredible. For jazz, chillout and downtempo it is also great. I have the much cheaper KBear Rosefinch, which actually has a similar tuning, but just with more presence. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes the idea of the Legato but doesn't want to shell out that much for it as the Rosefinch is really capable and slams. The Legato just does it with more refinement. The overall Legato package - the build, presentation, cable, and case - is outstanding for the price.
Thank you very much for your comment, and we couldn't agree more with your detailed thoughts on how you feel about the Legato. This is indeed a product with a very impressive sound performance/price ratio. As you say, the analytical ability may not be quite as crisp as some of the others, but the distinctive tuning is something we can't help but pick it up and listen to music every now and then. Cheers
What tips are those? Symbio w? I’d recommend trying out wide bore tips like tri clarion or spiral dots. It’ll give you a nice soundstage and clear things up a lot.
