  • Prince Selim's Dreams Are Coming True "PRINCE SELIM BECOMES THE SULTAN"
Watch Episode 139 👉 • Magnificent Century Ep...
The Magnificent Century takes leave with a breathtaking final episode. Suleiman gets plunged into darkness after Bayezid died and he gets even sicker. Selim tries to releive his pain falling back upon alcohol. Defne fights with all her strength to be able to protect her son. She understands there's no way out while she sees Nurbanu in front of her. The mother and her son walk towards the death holding onto each other. Mihrimah gets Nurbanu in a big trouble flaming with vengeance. Gülfem tries to kill Suleiman considering he is the responsible of everything has happened. However, the night ends with a dark secret. After the agony, Selim comes in the capital as the only heir to the throne. Mihrimah severs all ties with Selim since she sees him as a fratricide. Suleiman loses his strenght day by day and gets furious when he hears what his people talk about him.
And Suleiman the Magnificent goes for his last journey in a blaze of glory. An era ends while Suleiman the Sultan of the world gasps his life out!
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

@TheHabibi333 they searched for an excuse in order to kill many people, first Pargali Ibrahim, then Mustafa, now Beyazid. Syleiman said once to Hurrem: " I must go to war. And don't be afraid. I will returt. After all, this is important. After all, I don't invented war". A) I wanted him to die, so his family would be alive now and B) yes, you maybe didn't invent war, but you didn't do something in order to stop it. Because rope doesn't has one edge, if you pushing it, the other will push it too. So neither Hurrem, nor Syleiman should act like this. They were trying all the time to have an excuse in order to kill innocent people, instead of trying to get along with people and discuss with their with peace. He never learned to discuss with dialogue, only with sword and cannons and killing. Now die, Syleiman, so the next time you will be born, that you will be more careful of what you are saying, of what you are doing and that a human doesn't act like a God.

Mihrimah forgets (and that is what always annoyed me) that her life and her children's lives were secure. Selim (and all his brothers) didn't just worry for their lives but for their sons as well. Of course, you love your children more than your brothers. They are your primary responsibility!

Even though I don't like Selim but here, I agree with his words. Mihirimah has no right to insult or curse selim for killing beyazid when she herself was so much responsible for Mustafa's death. And now, she feels the wrath of selim. She sacrificed her life so her brothers could achieve the throne but she will have to live with the guilt and pain for rest of her life.

This ring signifies love and Souleyman gave it to Hurrem as a sign of love and fidelity at their wedding. neither Nurbanu nor Safyie deserves this ring. Kosem had at least the respect of the wore when Murat became Sultan and not when Safiye died. Kosem wore the ring to signify his love for the Ottoman dynasty and his loyalty. Only Hurrem and Kosem had the chance to wear the crown and the ring. Turban stole this ring when Kosem died just like Nurbane stole the ring from Hurrem's coffin.

I feel a little sorry for Selim in this episode. He really suffers. In my opinion Süleyman was the only responsible person. He ordered the executions of Mustafa and Bayezid. And what is even worse, he ordered the executions of all these innocent grandsons. Killing his adult sons is terrible enough, but killing innocent children is absolutely disgusting and cruel (even in that time period).

Actually in the history Suleyman the Magnificent do these things, because his sons became rebelions. Mustafa had the love of the whole army, which made him danger for the throne. Suleyman the Magnificent has been part of the rebelion of his father Selim First against his grandfather Beyazid, when he has been still a prince. So, after Sultan Suleyman receives a letter in which is said that his son collect an army, he immideatelly sees an opportunity the history repeat itself. Do you understand? Even if Mustafa has no bad intensions, the fear has been planted already. The son of Mustafa is killed, because of the Janissaris rage against the Sultan. Beyazid from the other hand is something different. In the history Beyazid tryed to make a contract with Shah Tahmasp to take the throne from his father in exchange of peace between both empires, runs away in Persia and this is the reason he is executed, after Suleyman finds out about this from... Shah Tahmasp himself. Beyazid deffenetely hasn't expected the Presian Shah won't take this deal. This show is more fiction than historical accurate. All of his sons exept Gihangir and Mehmet has been in a war for his throne when he has been still alive. And he has been watching them doing it in front of his eyes.

@@nikichkaaa Thank you very much for your detailed response. From a historic and a "non-emotional" point of view, you are right. But I can't help myself. In my view it is simply cruel to kill those innocent children. They have done nothing and nobody could know if they rebel one day or not. But they were condemned anyway just because of the fear of the sultan. This is simply not right in my view and there must be people during that area who protested against or at least discussed such kind of "custom", don't you think.

Upon the succession of a new Sultan, all his brothers were executed. It didn't matter if they were 40 or 4 months. If any concubines were pregnant, they were killed too. It seems cruel but that's how it was in those days. A brother could be set up as a rival and be a focal point for future revolts. Sometimes 30 or more coffins would leave the palace upon the succession of a new sultan.

He can sleep with his brother's blood on his hands, yes, because the prince was supposed to survive in order to take the throne. A sultana like you doesn't need to worry for her life. Selim has a quality that it's well hiden:patience. Bayazid always said: Face me! Man,as long as Suleiman is alive, you can't do whatever you want. And Selim it's right,Mihrimah has her half's brother blood on her hands,so she is not innocent neither.

Poor Defne you do your best but finally you lost ( it's not her fault she was a concubine of a irresponsable Bayezid). But Like everyone else I was dissatisfied with the way Suleiman's children were portrayed.
I propose an alternative version tell me what you think:
instead of writers I would have added Suleiman's children he had when he was sehzade with his other concubines before he became Sultan and met Hurrem and then had them die of the plague as it was historically.
Sehzade Mustafa- I would keep his child personality except he is not close to his siblings (because of the fratricidal law) and I wouldn't put him close to Ibrahim at least until he becomes an adult and allied himself with him, I would let his mother take care exclusively of his education. A young man who craves recognition and attention from his father who often neglects him in return over his other children due to the fact that Mahidevran is the Sultan's least beloved concubine. The more he becomes an adult and especially a father, the more he resents his father because of the way he treats his mother and him. He does not really understand his father and therefore his fears due to the fact that he did not grow up close to him. I would keep his efficient heir personality because he performs very well despite his father never teaching him well becauseof his mother who is a very good advisor. Instead of doing something for his military glory or showing off his harem too much I would focus on how he improves the lives of common people exhausted by too much conquest. I would make his guilt very ambiguous, at the start it is clear that he wants to wait for his father to die to have the throne and restore his mother's honor, however he realizes that his father lets his vizier lead his life impossible to see even encourages him, does not hide that he preferred to have a son of Hurrem on the throne no matter what Mustafa will do. Following this the sehzade wants to have a second plan like his grandfather in case Suleiman wants to abdicate in favor of another of his sons which would put him in danger (which could explain the Venetian correspondence, others say that it was a plan to prevent his brothers from escaping if one day he became Sultan) but hesitates to actually carry it out, then after some hesitation goes to his father's tent and gets strangled. Instead of doing Atmaca, I would focus on Mustafa's son-in-law, Nergissah's husband who started as Rustem's ally and becomes his most loyal supporter. So I would avoid making a treacherous Sehzade, his mistakes would be understanding, but it wouldn't be a pure white Sehzade.
Sehzade Mehmed: it's more complicated for him because he died without having proven himself in a complicated province like Amasya, so it's quite difficult to make a comparison with Mustafa. But I would make sure to give him a real personality: initially close to some of his brothers like Selim and Bayezid, he becomes, despite his mother, more distant towards them because of the fratricide (Mehmed II had therefore legalized it there is not much way to escape from it at the time unlike MCK) although he is very close to Cihangir and his sister. Unlike Mustafa, his father trained him in the regency of the palace and he did very well by dint of advice and practice. When he is sent to the provinces, he often listens to his mother's advice when she visits him. Knowing that he has the support of the statesmen against Mustafa he realizes knowing his father better than his half brother that he will have to play the role of the obedient sehzade not interested in politics although deep down he prepare for it. He has the happiness of being a father but dies immediately afterwards.
Mihrimah Sultan- I would make sure to respect the historical Hurrem who wants her daughter to have a marriage of love and happiness. However Suleiman prefers Rustem, and she accepts him immediately because she will do everything to save her brothers and convince her mother to accept this marriage. I would rather show her as a politician as well as her diplomatic relations. However I would underline the unjust side of Suleiman, he had Mustafa executed and condemned Mahidevran to poverty but refuses to punish Mihrimah by banishing her because she would have helped Bayezid financially during his rebellion. Their relationship would be cold for a time before reconciling. She will be reconciled with her brother Selim because basically they only remain and will be an ally of Nurbanu.
Sehzade Abdullah- I would have included him even if he died very young
Sehzade Selim- Initially a cultured young man very focused on charity work like his mother and sister and very sober. Nevertheless it is often sad due to the law of fratricide. When Mustafa dies, he realizes he has a chance to escape it and he will fight in a wicked way especially for his son Murad because he knows that Bayezid's temper will put him in danger besides fratricide. He knew how recruit powerful and efficient state members. He is on the whole an obedient sehzade but who is disgusted with his father's treatment of Mahidevran (after all she is no longer a threat to him she no longer has a son) and who will take risks to her by helping her financially. As the hardships go on, his depression increases he drinks more and more especially after his sister takes the part of Bayezid, that his brother Bayezid dies, and the fact that he is obliged to make other sons in the case where Murad dies without an heir which means that he knows that his other sons will be condemned to death. He has become a broken leader although he makes sure there is effective governance
Sehzade Bayezid- Him complicated. Due to his explosive temper he is the black sheep of his siblings (Mustafa does not count since he is a half brother, they do not even know each other) and the most incompetent of Suleiman's sons and Suleiman is worry because he has inherited the worst faults of Selim Yavuz (without having had his qualities). Yet deep down he wants affection and that's why he has several children even if it's irresponsible, his mother favors him because she's afraid for him. Mihrimah comes to his aid only in memory of his mother, because deep down she prefers Selim, Bayezid knows this, which means that he hardly listens to her. She only helps him financially as a last resort because she couldn't convince him to call off the rebellion. Suleiman was more lenient to his mistakes that Mustafa until the point that he took refugee to the Shah.
Sehzade Cihangir- A cultured young man very close to his parents and very sick. I would make him a supporter of Selim because although he is close to him, he also knows that he is his only chance of survival because he is not close to Bayezid at all. He often sends information from the Palace to Selim to better aid him in managing his province and at times advises him to be more ruthless in his quest for the throne while remaining an obedient sehzade. It would therefore be a good adviser for Selim (and it would give him more personality).
And that's how I would portray them if I were in the place of the screenwriters, they are all very nuanced (we avoid all white or all black), we can freely pick a favorite without trying to favor another sehzade at all costs and I try to be consistent with what we know about them. And what do you think about it? Will you modify or delete things in this scenario?

My heart really aches thinking if the old episode where Hurrem raised in power after going thru a lot.. They killed her innocence and made her brutal, but all she did was in vain as her own Children are no more, everyone she loved are no more and Suleiman her only love is struggling and suffering everyday.. Her own Children are fighting each other and have killed the other.. This is no Victory.. @dionysiossmaragdis2844 ปีที่แล้ว +74

But don't forget that she didn't blame anyone without knowing the truth, because my friend the truth is whatever happens or happened. It was Syleiman who prefered Hurrem instead of Mahidevran, it was himself who made a slave so much arrogant, it was the one who killed his family, because he was fearing of a betrayal, which it was not real, first Ibrahim Pasha, then his sons, Mustafa and Beyazid, his grandsons, he broke his promises and he had been this arrogant that he always swore that he would never been. Are you saying that Mahidevran was telling lies about all these? Are you saying that Syleiman was innocent, completely innocent of what had happened? Wasn't Syleiman who was the main responsible for all the suffers that Hafsa Ayse Sultana, Hatice, Ibrahim, Mustafa, Sah Sultana, Mahidevran and all the family had been through? For all those who doubt about that Syleiman was good, they doing wrong, even today, that many admire him of what had done. What had he done? Nothing. He conquered some lands, big deal. All kings do that. What else? He loved a concubine, who thought that she could make a king her slave. All people were in love, will be in love or be in love, there is nothing so special in this. This is why he was "Magnificent"? Because he fell in love with a woman? All people love sometime. Or maybe he was Magnificent , because he killed his family for the power, throne and wealth? For temporary things, he sacrifised all his family. Shame. He wasn't Magnificent, he was a tyrant, who deserved all that happened to him. In all the episodes, the opposite had happened, it wasn't Mahidevran's fault, it was Syleiman's faults, that all his family had been through many misfortunes, because of him. He made it himself and he destroyed both himself and others (being king that doesn't means that can destroy the family and their lives, means that he wasn't just or kanuni, what kind of justice is this, decide the fate of the people, God is the only one who can take such decisions, the people can't do this to other people. If they do, this is tyrany, fasism, arrogance, conceit, anger and egoism). If he was a good man, than a good padishah, he wouldn't been all alone at the time of his death and he would have someone to take care of him, instead of lying there all alone, by himself, at his deathbed. It isn't truth that all people live just like they live in their lives, because Hurrem and Syleiman were the only responsibles for the fate of Mahidevran, Mustafa, Beyazid. Now Selim tells to Mihrimah without having any respect. He is no talking to a child anymore, he is talking to a Sultana, Mihrimah Sultana and above all to his own Valide Sultana, because he was useless in order to rule the empire, means that Mihrimah was the one who ruled the empire. He may became the Sultan of the world, but he wasn't something special, he was a fracitide. Mihrimah was right, he was truly a murderer of his own brother. At least, Mihrimah had reason to help her mother to get rid of Mustafa, he wanted to protect Beyazid. Besides, neither Mihrimah expected from her father to kill his son Mustafa, so why Selim said that to his sister? Why he is blaming her? Because he wanted to protect her brother Beyazid? At least, Mihrimah tried to protect him, meanwhile Selim tried to protect only himself, to protect his existance for the throne and so he tried countless times to get rid of Beyazid. That's the main difference between them, between Selim and Mihrimah.

Suleiman is remembered yet today and Hurrem changed the world by being more than any woman before her. While she was there, Murad had little to fear, but when she died he became increasingly unpopular. Same in a way for Bayezid, if Suleiman was more tolerant of his mistakes which was more serious than Mustafa it was partly because Hurrem was protecting him when she died, there was no one enough. important to protect him from Suleiman (historical Rustem and Mihrimah tried but failed). Abdul Hameed II also instigated a dictatorship that culled any and all progress or reforms in the empire as well as leaving the imperial navy to rot in the bosphorous. I would hardly call either great when Sultan Mehmet II literally conquered THE capital city, Constantinople amongst other things and built up the institutions of the empire, transitioning them from a feudal-military state to a burecratic centralized empire. Sultan suleiman wasn't as personally great as Mehmet II but he was still great nontheless. I hate Nurbany, but I like Mahidevran. Between them, I like Mahidevran. Because Mahidevran was the true hero, he lived seperated from her beloved, she lost her son, she lived in poverty in Bursa, where her son and grand-son are lying, she built their shrines and made charities for her son's happiness (even if he was no longer in life), she spent all her life in Bursa and she never returned to the palace, because she prefered to live all alone, than going back to these filthy traitors and the most painful, she lived another 28 years, after her son's execution, which had been ordered by her beloved, the father of her son Mustafa, her husband, Syleiman.

Spoilers if you don't have read GRR Martin books or seeing house of the dragon there will be the end so don't read it:
Both in the show and history Selim make me think of Aegon III. A ruler broken by all tragedy, he is a decent ruler ( not a beast political ruler like some of his predecessors or sucessors or his brother Mustafa just like Aegon III) , but too much broken for ruler totally hismef even if he assure to have very good councelor. Who think it just the same comparison. In fact to be honest I have only two criticisms to make of historical Selim II: the first although having made sure that his vizier was brilliant to withdraw and let him manage almost all the affairs although he did not hesitate to intervene if necessary. I understand that he was going through hard times but a ruler must try to overcome all his misfortunes to govern properly (Elizabeth I also had a lot of tragedies throughout her life and yet never retired and is remained always present and very effective), the most frustrating thing is that he seemed to be able to succeed when he intervened because his decisions were good in this case.
The second most serious, start offering concessions to the janissaries who will want to get involved in politics later (when the military gets involved in political affairs it's never good, it's one of the great causes of the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the fact that the French revolution was destroyed and almost France with this criminal and dictator of Napoleon, and for that I am less sure it caused the fall of the Roman Empire according to some people so correct me if it is wrong)
Entrance of the mythical Safiye. But I don't why there is always hate on Nubranu in the show she gain the right to be successor of Hurrem and in history she was a efficient Valide. She help a lot Selim, she was popular ( when she died her death was cry on Istanbul) and help a lot Murad. With her death Murad became less popular ( just like Turhan and Mehmed IV). Some blame the women of SOW to be the fall of empire Ottoman btu in fact they helped a lot to try to maintain the Ottoman Empire and their sultans (I'm thinking of Hurrem, Nurbanu, Handan, Kosem and Turhan) even though Safiye helped contribute to the decline of the Ottoman Empire and Halime was not able to properly manage the Ottoman Empire, if there was a significant decline it was for different reasons.

contemporary historian divided some say its fault of grand vizier nd accept that Valide at the time are more responsible like Mustafa Ali of Gallipoli. nd other say its because mostly the valide fault bt they always say the name of 3 women that start the decline : Hurrem Safiye kosem, historian like Ahmet Akgündüz say this in the work like: this bad period started by the trio of Hurrem Safiye nd Kosem.
nurbanu was very good in politic nd people don't like to say that bt the empire was at the pick when nurbanu was here.
people dont know this bt during 10 year of kosem she change 8 vizier nd 10 treasurer. turhan stable the empire again.

Selim is considered as worst sultan, but that's far from reality.Mainly, because he didn't go and lead a campaign, and because of his drinking .There are various reasons why he didn't start a campaign, and he wasn't apolitical at all,and didn't let Sokolu to rule the empire, during his reign. He was bad sultan, but not a worst,as some said.
Those who said that Nurbanu and Turhan should not be included in SOW,and that they were weak, have no knowledge of Ottoman history. This is influenced by the series and fake pages on the Internet. Same for Handan. Some said that Ahmed had order to kill her,and she was weak,or that she had kill herself. All of this is influenced by the series.
MC and MCK are not historically accurate series, but some people don't understand that, and spread fake informations.

@@drfhgs428 I think that Selim II was a decent ruler ( not a beast political like his grandfather or like his half brother Mustafa). But he was very depressed and even if I am agree with you he wasn't a apolitical but he was too much broken to the point that he let a lot Sokollu make decision even if Selim interven if necessary or will always watch up his actions. Oh I read a lot of pages falses : Mahidevran was evil and weak, Hurrem was a devil, Nurbanu, Ayse, Handan and Turhan were weak, Kosem was evil,,etc...
This is what happens when you rely solely on manga or series instead of taking the time to consult serious historians or serious historical sites

Contrary she was very smart. she have 2 other son selim first son die 20 April 1597 nd suleyman die also. she is different to halime cause she have no problem with safiye cause she want to protect her children.
