Love the old Savage 1907, as well as the 1911 design. of course! LOL. Thanks for bringing up the history making trials.
Just became a fan of the NFM. Had the 1907 been chosen after field trials the pistol would have been significantly more developed as was the modified 1905 Colt (in 1907) which morphed into the much more robust 1909 than 1911 Colt which was finally adopted. The Savage was the No 3 pistol, not the No 2 but Luger thought that he was just being used to prod Colt into developing a pistol superior to the 1905 so he dropped out allowing the Savage 1903 to be No. 2. The Savage had lots of issues.
The savage has always looked like a toy to me. That design reminds me of the old tin toy ray guns from that era. Nice to see it though, and they are incredibly interesting designs. Just imagine if they had been adopted.
I'd love to be able to do my own comparison of the Colt and Savage .45s on the range. Too bad I'll never even be able to touch a Savage .45 pistol on account of their extreme rarity.
The Savage Pistol looks alright but the Colt practically oozes style and functionality, truly a timeless weapon.
