Finally more Roman profiles.
Domitian was a great emperor . he did what very few heads of state accomplished. He cracked the inflation code.
He killed his brother
@@nickk1524 Domitian did not kill his brother.
@@JeffDbury He plotted it. Just didnt have the guts
@@nickk1524 There is absolutely no proof of this . Quite the opposite . There is more proof that Domitian was innocent . The Senate made these baseless accusations in order to discredit him.
@@nickk1524So why did you say he killed him?
My Roman deep dive has been so rewarding. Their history is so action packed and colorful.
Never a Dull moment

Domitian: the emperor who balanced budgets and battles, until the Senate gave him a fatal roast!
One of the Most underrated Emperors, just like his Father. Without the Flavian Dynasty it would have been possible, that we would Talk about a Crisis of the First and not Third Century
Vespasian isn't underrated.
It seems Domicius had two terrible defects: one was the ability to keep the empire united, peaceful and carrying out its main administrative and military activities; the other was dedication to the public cause. He stood out neither for Nero's excesses of personal display, nor for Caligula's cruelty, nor for Julius Caesar's ambition of immortalization through military conquests. In a world where noble and proud young men yearned for great things or for great inhuman exaggerations that would compel them to act, Domicius was an emperor who made the Roman elite bored. And as we know, the Romans were terrible enemies when they were angry and in a position to avenge an offense, but they were secretive and virulent friends when they died of boredom.
Rome was never peaceful
I think Domitian is a good emperor he is just hated by the senators
I agree
Your Román videos are awesome guys! Please do Constantine the Great soon!
Domitian helped start the golden age that the nerva antonines take credit for. Dude was an incredible administrator. The Flavians were the best Roman dynasty
He was a great Emperor. The senate hated him
The two are likely related.
Sounds like President Trump. The people like him, and the American Senate (nobility) hate him
@@erinaltstadt4234 just like Trump
Yet again Senate & Emperor at loggerheads! Domitian was actually popular with military. And came from a successful line of Emperors the Flavians.
Say what you will about domitian he was one of only a couple who solved the sever inflation problem in the empire
Who's the other one?
My nominee for the most underrated emperor
Awesome history videos
Ive read some books about Vespasian im the Roman army, he was a brilliant stratagist......
The emperor believed to have exiled John the Apostle to Patmos
Correct. Which is also a peice of data that irritates preterist.
@@1969cmpwhy does it irritate the preterists ?
@@domenica4892 Preterist, mostly, believe that almost all of Revelation happened in the first century and believe thst the book was written before 70 AD. Preterist need Revelation written at the early date as they push the idea that Nero is the fulfilling of Revelation 13, The Beast.
Domitian is the ONLY Roman emperor, and one of only a handful of leaders/rulers throughout human history, to solve the problem of inflation during his time. That alone shows him to be a great ruler despite his autocratic tendencies.
Ok 😂
Tendencies?
"Great"???
A roman EMPEROR had autocratic tendencies? What a shock! Idiot.
@@fitzfitzchivalry4538 Tell me you know nothing about this time period in Roman history without telling me you know nothing about this period, idiot. LOL.
Could you do one on Toussaint Louveture?
That was well done but what I loved most were the still photos , paintings and etchings some of those I’ve never seen before , would be thankful for any info on this
Finaly my Favorite emperor
Ive always liked him also but can never get too much info on his reign..
What are your reasons?
Or anyone else who can comment.
Thank you
@@MrKyleb1997 His financial politics and I read the Vespasian book series from Robert Fabbri and i found him quit Fascinsting there
For all of his amazing contributions to Roman society. Domitian was rated harshly by historians. It's hard to judge his reign due to the fact that the senate at that time was so corrupt and thought of Domitian as the ":weak" one of his family. His assassination was definitely set up by the senate who wasted no time in promoting their own to emperor even before Domitian's death was fully announced throughout Rome.
Whongives a crap about his " contributions" it's how you treat people that matters and if you treat people like crap...then your crap...
He was a very successful emperor
Theres no great or evil emperos; theres just the one who got along with the Senate and those who did not. And theh were the ones writing the biographies
Well presented
90s Domitian documentaries mentioned a book he wrote on hair care, which it is hard to find any reference to today.
Okay, it was mentioned at the 44:00 mark.
He was a very good, very underrated Emperor. He balanced the budget, stopped inflation, had the support of the troupes, and won many battles. He played a vital role in setting things up for close to 100 years of prosperity. And by the way, as for being a tyrant, the beloved Claudius had more people executed than Domitian did.
He was truly a great emperor he saw the senate for what they were a useless conclave of rich men who only cared about power/person gain. So once he died they were still around and they absolutely hated him so thats why they wrote so much bad about him. But he doesn't deserve the hate he reminds of cladius he was very good also the only good emperor after agustus. The only good emperor in the Julio claduian dynasty i meant. Tiberius was good at first also but ya lol. And the other 2 were just mad
may i know the reference which you used for saying the dacians were an "asiatic people"?
You said St. Agnes (who you even write lived circa 291-304) was martyred during Domitian's reign? I think you meant Diocletian's. Come on, man.
My name is Dominic. We both Doms.
Muito bom o conteúdo do vídeo, pois tentou informar os dois lados da história. Apenas faltou profundidade na questão da perseguição aos cristãos, pois Domiciano pode ter sido um dos imperadores perseguidores. Agradecido.
Thank you for using AD and not CE.
Romans knew how to deal with the juudeeen.
Great ancient history documentary made me hard to sleep ~
I still have a negative view of Domitian, I think he was really incompetent, his behavior with the Ghatti and with Dacia, show his military incompetence, and his adversity with the senate and the philosophers is a bad sign.
Can you do More World War 2 profiles
Dacians were Thracian in origin. The Sarmatians who help4ed them were Asiatic.
Mary Beard has a few things to say about him
Can we think of another word to use other than " underrated". Its used everywhere.
Emiliano Zapata 🇲🇽
Thank God for using the BC and AD WORDS. Common sense is prevailing at last.
Terrible persecutors of the Christians
Never heard of this guy, but im interested in knowing how a tyrant could be tragic.
Tyrant would just mean someone with absolute power. Also thats just what the senate and contemporaries would say about someone they don't like.
I love how the Roman "wall" against my distant ancestors was basically a long garden fence to keep cattle thieves and opportunists out 😂 Somehow, this looks more like some kind of border immigration control than actual military fortification.
To be fair, the Chinese Wall did not really work as intended, so maybe the Romans were just more realistic about it 😏
Domițian a fost un împărat mare, bun pentru Roma.A fost asasinat de pretorienii siniștrii și de stricata lui soție Domitia Longina.
Luke 12:8-9: ““I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. But whoever disowns me before others will be disowned before the angels of God.”

Why don't you do Elagabalus the first trans emperor? That would be a great one
Uhm no. He wasn't trans in anyway at all. Lmao.
@@deciphertwentythree7726I think you need to learn your history
Elagabalus was a trans emperor
@@deciphertwentythree7726Yes he was
KittenGuru is correct 👌
@@HistoryRoman No, he wasn't. Herodian, Historia Augusta and Dio, were not reliable sources as they were slanderous towards the emperor. There is no evidence towards it aside from hearsay from Dios side.
Guys from this channel, wherefrom did you conclude that Dacians are of Asiatic origins??? Don't create new historical "jokes" and check where ever you want that Dacians (Getae) are the Northern branch of Thracians. Or this is what you want to say that Thracians are Asiatics???!!!
Yo

Titus Flavius Domitianus delenda est
A decent documentary held back by using obsolete Christian-centric terms like "BC" and "AD.". Historians refer to these periods as "BCE" and "CE."
