Or chatting bout cars, motorcycles and big trucks. sometimes hearing some drivers that should of been comedians. Or hearing old stories bout Ol skool truckers like Southern Shaker and others 👍👍👍
At :35...it's called the S-meter or signal strength meter. I have this radio too. I love it. Get yourself a astatic or workman external swr meter and hook it up inline to monitor swr. That's what I'd do

Good info and good quality video. Frequency counter is not much use on CB without sideband and a clarifier but would be nice for using on the 10 meter frequencies of your radio, otherwise you would need a list of the frequencies and corresponding channel numbers to know what frequency you would be on. Be aware that FCC fines can easily be $10k for misuse of amateur or other regulated frequencies.

I'm debating whether to get a 447 or a 497. Neither are particularly well suited to mounting in a confined area...both need air circulation for cooling. I saw a video that showed the digital channel indicator showing SWR, but it may have been the 447, though. Grounds are good...the more and better grounds you can get, the better....all through your system. Radio, coax, antenna mount...and a single antenna will out perform co-phased antenni. You can use the other one for a scanner or just for looks. Power cords and wires are another area for potential loss. Don't just assume the CB power posts in your dash are heavy enough for the load your radio will be pulling. 73s.
It has a built in AWI (Antenna Warning Indicator) it also has a data port in the back to use with the free source software on the computer. This will give you access to many more settings inside the radio. You can even set the radio to not transmit at an SWR of your choice and much more. I run this radio and love it! I used an antenna analizer to tune my antenna, checked it with a SWR meter with a 1.0. I used the computer to have the radio not broadcast at a 1.5 or above. The antenna analizer is much more accurate than an SWR meter when tuning your antenna. Once you do all of that take the SWR meter out of line and have faith in the radio. As long as you have forward swing on the radio meter you are getting out. If an antenna issue happens the radio will give you an SWR warning beep and wont let you transmit past the SWR limit you set it for. Here is the link for the software. Good review brother. I used to run a Stryker 440 which they don't make anymore. Used to get complimented everyday on how good that thing sounded. My only problem was it didn't hear very well and was noisy as hell. It picked up lots of white noise but received poorly. I'd like to have a 497 but I'm afraid of the same issue but maybe they sorted it out since then

I used an swr meter and I just swapped it to the sirio 5k trucker its only a bit over a foot shorter than the 102 whip tuneable and seems to have a lower radiation angle giving it a bit of gain
and yes the radio which I sold but when I had it it would not transmit over a 1.5 swr I am pretty sure it was a safety feature since the mosfets are not forgiving to swr
Obviously old comment but the 655 digital meter is DEAD ON accurate with my swr meter hooked up. Swing meters are never accurate but the digital is 100% right

Hell I run a cobra 25 pushing about 230 watts!!! I can only get 18 miles mobile to mobile with cheep whips!!! But I have talked to a base that is 40 miles away sitting on top a hill

You'll never get a accurate SWR reading on your CB meter. You would have to hook a meter up to your coax to get that reading.
