Ive watched several of these Polynesian performances. QUESTION: on several performance I see 2 to 4 guys in the back runing back and forth and dancing (9:13). Is there any specific purpose or meaning of this?

Edwin Holcombe The aiuli is what they are called. They act as supporters behind the taupou (the girl dancing) or the manaia ( male counterpart ). Their actions emphasize the grace of the taupou with their fast movements.
