Bro's having a mid-life crisis in his 20's... This has always been the reality of skating as a professional. You need to diversify and use Skateboarding as a fulcrum for other endeavors.
@@gnarcloud yeah it is worse now though. I think lots of guys paid their LA/SF rent back in the day. Many dudes who were good but not great and cobbled together a living. Tbf if you’re in your 20s, pro, no family yet, and you make enough to pay the rent in a major city, travel for free, and figure the rest out however, that ain’t a bad life.
@@tomas746 True, I get what your saying. I feel like a large part of it has to due with inflation as well because the cost of living is so high! People with normal full time jobs that pay well are having trouble paying rent. Making it that much harder for skaters trying to come up and make it work.
@@gnarcloud yeah for sure. My whole thing is skating is relatively small subculture. Everyone is doing it for the love. You need a little industry that can pay a guy enough where he either doesn’t have to work or only needs to work part time for necessities. That way all he has to worry about is skating and it progresses everything. But a lot of people seem to be thinking that if you can’t make Nike money and have like a 401k it ain’t worth it. That’s crazy to me cause spending your 20s not having to do anything but skating is like the dream. It’s like being an artist - you’re probably gonna be scraping by but if you get to spend 10+ years to dedicating yourself to making art that right there is the trade off. Granted as you approach 30 you’re probably gonna have to figure something else out. But it seems like skate industry is struggling to even put guys in this position. And as you say part of it is how expensive rent in a city is.
@@tomas746 Fully agree with that. Skating is art and anyone should be stoked to be in a position to do it as a career and get free product and travel. If your doing that and scraping by, find a way to hustle and make some more money on the side to keep the dream alive. With social media and the remote working, it makes it way more realistic to have something on the side to bring in extra income.
Skaters are just pawns to the brands who pay them … they are expendable and very rarely given any love unless they are one of the 1% who make it to the legends category… I love skating and always will but glad I never had dreams of being pro … I had more dreams of owning a shop but even today know how hard it is ..

Hey guys, there is a brand new skatepark in dallas tx. Its called bachman skatepatk. We wanna call it jake phelps. Come hsnging. We wanna play live music. Open in february
Skating was cool back in the 90's but when it sold out and went mainstream it's been downhill ever since. Yes, there is skateparks now when back then you had to skate real street which was dangerous and illegal but it's just lost it's edge in my opinion. A bunch of corns skating now. There is some sick skating but honestly 90% of it is corn ball shit.
I get the idea but, all this means is you werent good enough to make a career out of it. You have work to do to be good enough to make enough to live (nyjah, Ishod, etc,). This is just you recognizing you don't have what it takes. 5 year old you thought you could be good enough, but at this current point youre not good to live off of it.
I would tell the young ones to just pursue what you love for that reason and maybe along the way money will be a part of it, maybe not but either way you're doing what you love and that's important.
I love skating and the idea of being pro is such a cool dream I'd love to fulfill, but NO WAY I'm sacrificing my body and health for $500/month🤣. Great message Cole, keep being you!
If you're not skating contests and have a top selling pro shoe on Nike/New Balance/Adidas and have an energy drink sponsor you're not going to make a decent living off of skateboarding as a skateboarder.
which is earned and as a business man it has to make sense and of course even if im the people champ and have all the potential. if you had this mentality why would I want you to represent my company
you have to work a job in life, who goes into skating thinking your going to make big bucks there’s a very small group of people who have made a lot of money of skating. Your average pro has their own business or works a job, you might have not made it in the industry because of your attitude, no one wants to hang with a cry baby that wants big checks for his skate clips 😭 no one’s expectation is yours, these company’s and tms respect those people more then you, i guarantee they listen to what their own riders are saying about you, there’s a difference between being a good skater and being a good person. maybe you are now but obviously not back then😭

Man, I'd agree with you if they didn't use his footage in the videos. This boomer logic to work for free and doors will open for you it's pretty fucked up. I mean, it obviously didn't happen for him, so what's next, blame him for not doing something on the side? They used his footage, man.
@ for free? They used his footage and he got free skateboards and clothing, he agreed to it because it known if you are good enough and marketable enough you will continue to rise. Skateboard companies do not make millions and undoubtedly a huge chunk of their profit goes to supporting riders with free gear, they could be making hundreds of thousands more if they weren’t giving out all the gear these riders get… it’s a trade off both sides agree to. Now if you are a naive 10 year old kid that thinks because you got a gear sponsorship or you’re am or flow that you will soon be living like Jah or sheckler than your parents need to have a talk with you.. and the parents will obviously be present during any contract signing as minors cannot do so without a guardian you cannot just blame skateboard companies that there is so few skaters making living wages from the “sport”
@@隠れた nah, man, you are just assuming here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's no paperwork behind those "agreements" so it's borderline exploitative to work for decks and shirts. he has 5k subs would you really say hes suceeding? my mom has more followers onn her IG
I'm a soul sk8r.
Bro, how many red bulls you on?
Truth! Love yoyr channel brother
Kids gotta stop aspiring to be pro… skate for fun and find a sustainable career to fund the fun
Amen Brother - Merry Christmas
Skaters are just pawns to the brands who pay them … they are expendable and very rarely given any love unless they are one of the 1% who make it to the legends category… I love skating and always will but glad I never had dreams of being pro … I had more dreams of owning a shop but even today know how hard it is ..
Do you think if you never wouldve taken that spill, you wouldve still taken at step back from skating as a "career"?
Greetings brother. You hit the nail on the head when you said one has to invest themselves. Question? Do you have any suggestions for an Affiliate Marketing Company. Please let me know if you do. Take care of yourself and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
The problem is they started sponsoring people just based off vibe or style not off of skill like it was in the old days. They over saturated it
I’m just confused like who was paying you? When did you go pro??
Hey guys, there is a brand new skatepark in dallas tx. Its called bachman skatepatk. We wanna call it jake phelps. Come hsnging. We wanna play live music. Open in february
It's too corporate and I know it sounds cliche. The wrong people are getting the spotlight.
What do you do for money?
Bruh crashing out 😂
Skating was cool back in the 90's but when it sold out and went mainstream it's been downhill ever since. Yes, there is skateparks now when back then you had to skate real street which was dangerous and illegal but it's just lost it's edge in my opinion. A bunch of corns skating now. There is some sick skating but honestly 90% of it is corn ball shit.
We have to make our own path and success.
Tim Pool frothing at the mouth watching this rn
good
to realize this at a young age
the skateboard industry dont want you bro
I get the idea but, all this means is you werent good enough to make a career out of it. You have work to do to be good enough to make enough to live (nyjah, Ishod, etc,). This is just you recognizing you don't have what it takes. 5 year old you thought you could be good enough, but at this current point youre not good to live off of it.
I make a living off of skating as we speak, it’s just not from the core route of skateboarding.
Trust an believe the skate industry is not your friend
thankful for the size chart
I went pro and they took money from me!! lol! They actually took $150 from me and closed the company!
The best time to be pro was in the early 2000s with sum 41 and smash mouth in the background
shoutout bryan fr homie a real 1
I would tell the young ones to just pursue what you love for that reason and maybe along the way money will be a part of it, maybe not but either way you're doing what you love and that's important.
I love skating and the idea of being pro is such a cool dream I'd love to fulfill, but NO WAY I'm sacrificing my body and health for $500/month🤣. Great message Cole, keep being you!
Can I wear those pants for my blue collar job?
Yup
preach cole i gave up on tryna go pro i just do it for fun
If you're not skating contests and have a top selling pro shoe on Nike/New Balance/Adidas and have an energy drink sponsor you're not going to make a decent living off of skateboarding as a skateboarder.
which is earned and as a business man it has to make sense and of course even if im the people champ and have all the potential. if you had this mentality why would I want you to represent my company
you have to work a job in life, who goes into skating thinking your going to make big bucks there’s a very small group of people who have made a lot of money of skating. Your average pro has their own business or works a job,
you might have not made it in the industry because of your attitude, no one wants to hang with a cry baby that wants big checks for his skate clips 😭 no one’s expectation is yours, these company’s and tms respect those people more then you, i guarantee they listen to what their own riders are saying about you, there’s a difference between being a good skater and being a good person. maybe you are now but obviously not back then😭
exactly.
Ownership is everything but do it for the love first
That's how the pros do it 💥🤙
Tony hawk selling blood in his decks, really made me sad to see my favorite skater as kid who motivated me so much. Now sells decks with his blood sad bro
Core Lords, that's a good one
Bro not everyone gets paid in the skate industry and that’s a known fact lol it’s not the industry’s fault YOU believed you were gonna be making a living off it.. this is a bad look just ranting it didn’t work out the way you thought it would
Man, I'd agree with you if they didn't use his footage in the videos.
I agree that not everyone is gonna go pro, but the state of the industry is, paradoxically, peak predatory capitalism.
Bust your ass for a long time and then maybe you get paid.
Industry goes up and down all the time.
