  • -Welcome to the Sleep Ranch! We are located in the Northern Black Hills on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border where our ancestors settled and started ranching in 1883.
I (Carson) work alongside my parents, Jeff and Jodi, our ranch hand, Jaques, my wife, Damaris who also works as a nurse in town, and our son Silas! We have friends and family who come along very frequently as well!
We run a cow/calf operation where we summer our cattle on the Black Hills National Forest and winter them in the foothills of the Black Hills. We also have a backgrounding feedlot, and grow alfalfa and grass hay.

Good explanation on preventative medications and infection precautions! Smart heifer breeding program to help prevent birthing complications. The information that you provide in your videos can help other ranchers learn what works and why. Good video.

@leviahimsa beef is plant based food! Cattle are herbivores, not carnivores. Studies can be manipulated to a desired conclusion. As the Bible tells us, anything to excess is not good. I'll keep eating my plant based meat. Thank you.

@@thomasosburn833 An animal eating plants, does not make consuming their body parts plant based. Do you think animal abuse is wrong?

We use Corriente bulls on our fist calf heifers. In 5 years I can count on one hand the number that we have helped. "Bare arm'n it".....that will break you from chewing your finger nails. Ran out of OB sleeves and had to AI a cow "one time". I buy them by the case now.

I’d suggest building a windbreak type of fence in that big heifer pen to create a better angle when bring individual heifers in from the group. They always seem to give a guy trouble if they are high headed or being pushed out of the group by themselves.

Carson calving has started off well for you, hope the rest goes well. Like you were like to put a easy calving bull with our first calf heifers. We have recently been using Brangus Bulls, where we get our Brangus bulls from have used a lot of US seed stock. Our herd is mostly Brahman females, once they have their first calf we then use Charolais Bulls, these crossbred calves do well and are very popular here in Australia. Keep safe
