A bad alternator diode can cause ripple that will show up as a camshaft postion sensor error code.

Do all of your osciloscope use floating grounds? If not, you might wanna tell the users not to hook up another channel to bat. neg.

they should have done a better job showing where the alternator lead clamps on. for what it's worth, it's clamped on the heavy cable BAT post. newbies wouldn't be able to tell that from the crappy picture offered.

If you know how to use a scope then the thing that snap-on is offering here is redundant. Or just a waste of your or your business money.

What are they offering here other than a quick tip on testing for AC ripple? The tool he is using is a scan tool w/ a 4 channel scope. It has a guided component test feature, sure. It comes with the tool. You don't HAVE to use guided component test and can just set the scope up yourself. I own this tool, as well as a PICO scope. What I can't do with the PICO scope is scan for codes/bi directional control/basic settings and adaptations etc...I use the PICO when I need more than 4 channels, or really need the heavy lifting that PICO can do that the more basic Snap-On cannot. That being said, if a shop does not already have a good scope and they're in the market for a good "generic(by generic I mean not OE software like ISTA or ODIS)" scan tool it seems like a pretty good VALUE to me.
