I have a c-crosser, so believe me I know what it felt like to get stuck in the water. The Outlander was never designed to be an off road car. Its a CROSSOVER. Most components of the 4x4 system are from the lancer evo, it is not meant for hillclimbing or for rugged terrain, its for performance driving on the road.

I think 4WD was on but i don think he locked the center differential

I think the Outlander is able of handling this terrains, but i think he didnt have AWD Lock on and probably no off road tires
