At 78 i will probably be considered a coffin dodger (Rory was 5 years younger than me) buf Rory's music is still .alive,. and this track is my all time favourite.Saw him live in '71.His two lp's released that year contain some amazing tracks that you can (maybe fully )appreciate after a hundred plays or so ( available on you tube ).I have to admit that after over 50 years playing they are getting a bit scratchy now !. love the fact that bands play Rory's music today. can still bring back to me memories of those times when we had real music played by Rory,SRV and Gary who put Blues Rock on the map.
R.I.P Rory. Perhaps i will meet him again ( not too soon) on the other side one day.
Take care Rory fans everywhere, keep playing his music !.

Many. many great artists from Ireland including Gary Moore, Phil Lynott, The Corrs, The Cranberries and of course Niall Horan. Mr Gallagher is Ireland's greatest musician in my humble opinion.. Cork has every right to be proud of this gentleman. Just sorry I never got the opportunity to see him live. Keep singing Ireland.

I saw Rory play at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney Australia in the 1970s he was brilliant. One of the punters got carried way, jumped up onto the stage security on his tail but Rory told security to bugger off and invited the guy up to his mic. He allowed the guy to sing with him and the audience went nuts. What a gig I'll never forget it, Rory was awesome he gave his all. I'm now 67 and I remember that moment like it was yesterday.

My older brother took me to my first concert to see Rory at the Free Trade hall in Manchester (Now a Radisson hotel!!) Think it was 1974 and I was 15! What an impression it made on me standing in the stalls and that ringing in the ears!! I was lucky to see Rory at a number of venues in Manchester in the years after that first concert, and always wanted to be in the stalls near the front. What great days. Funnily, the last time I saw Rory live was at the Free trade hall, where he was the star act at a concert celebrating the Fender Stratocaster guitar! Fantastic memories.

This hotel bar is full of people,
The piano man is really laying it down,
The old bartender is as high as a steeple,
So why tonight should I wear a frown?
The joint is jumpin' all around me,
And my mood is really not in style,
Right now the blues flock to surround me,
But I'll break out after a while.
Yes I'm a million miles away,
    I'm a million miles away,
    I'm sailing like a driftwood,
    On a windy bay,
    On a windy bay.
    I'm a million miles away,
    I'm a million miles away,
But I'm sailing like a driftwood,
    On a windy bay,
    On a windy bay.
    Why ask how I feel,
Well, how does it look to you?
I fell hook, line and sinker,
Lost my captain and my crew.
    I'm standing on the landing,
There's no one there but me,
    That's where you'll find me,
Looking out on the deep blue sea.
There's a song on the lips of everybody,
There's a smile all around the room,
    There's conversation overflowing,
But I sit here with the blues.
This hotel bar has lost all its people,
The piano man has caught the last bus home,
The old bartender just collapsed in the corner,
Why I'm still here, I just don't know,
    I don't know.
    I'm a million miles away,
    A million miles away,
I'm sailing like a driftwood on a windy bay,
    On a windy bay.
    I'm a million miles away,
    A million miles away,
I'm sailing like a driftwood on a windy bay,

Wait, they renamed the Cork airport after Rory? I read years ago that he was deathly afraid of flying, which according to the story, was why he didn't play that much in the USA. That's a pretty ironic turn of events. Still, I've loved Rory's music since the 70's. This song is one of his best. People always talk about his guitar playing, but he was a great song writer!

Hey Salty, imo I think he's not poppy enough for them, look at this masterpiece here, it's over 11 minutes long, they're after 3 minute hero's but having said that his album Top Priority had a few good radio rock songs on it, Philby, Bad Penny etc so who knows, he's our best kept secret. 👍

I have read over years that rory wasn't technically a great player but he was so much more, humble true to his music and will be listened to for many years to come. Stage struck brilliant lp. Guitar work on this amazing enough energy to blow your socks off! Moon child, brute force and igronance just 2 power tracks to rock to.

"the other grass may be greener, but me I just want my stomping ground" - the vibe of all Rory's songs, even those about always being on the move. Stubborn isn't just a word. 10:20. It can even be a "spirit". Not necessarily a positive one.

My favorite song from Rory Gallagher. i love the version from the irish tour LP 74. In the silent parts of this song you can listen the audience handclapping and the feet stomps - but they do it quietly out of respect.
    Great.
