  • Based in Dorset in the UK, Monkey World is the largest monkey and ape rescue centre on the planet. For nearly three decades, the team has saved countless primates - across 20 countries - from lives of cruelty, abuse, and neglect. This safe haven is now home to more than 200 monkeys and apes. The dedicated staff never stop in their quest to save animals from being mistreated by owners, ending up in laboratories or being exploited in the entertainment industry.
The Nursery chimps get the better of Animal Manager Jeremy, but he has his revenge! We also meet chimpanzee Paddy, who’s been the perfect leader of his group for more than 15 years. And we find out why new alpha male Hananya is struggling with life at the top. There’s tension when a baby Woolly Monkey is born, but instead of being tucked up with mum, it’s been rejected. Will the endangered primate survive without human intervention?

I’m thinking that most people who love monkeys already know that Jeremy wrote the greatest book called : Jeremy and Amy The extraordinary true story of One Man & his Orangutan. It’s such a Great Book! Who knew that Jeremy is an author? So….for those that didn’t know about this book, it’s a fabulous book to read and a glimpse into Jeremy’s life.

Hi Vicki I'll definitely look for it! Do you know about "The Vervet Monkey Foundation"? They're a monkey sanctuary in S. Africa They rescue often very teeny orphaned babies who go through an integration program where they get foster monkey moms and troops? Then they're released into protected forest areas in the "Vervet Forest". We can watch them progress weekly in 1/2 hr. videos and since you're clearly an animal lover I think you'll love them. Check them out. :) Hi from Canada.

The exchange abt the newborn orangutan being accepted by the mother should have been: “YAI , YAI, I doubt it! Hopefully she won’t, as every human here fights for a chance 18:47 mother looks the other direction, YAI, YAI, I think it’s time to take the baby away, and we will raise it by hand…..”

The whole issue of these moms rejecting their babies has so much to do with the way they were raised in captivity and kept as pets rather than being raised naturally in nature in a social group and learning from watching other females in the group. It is so sad just how much damage is caused to these beautiful creatures and how it impacts their lives and their babies lives.

Generational trauma being passed on. The infant isn't the parent, but what was lacking during the parent's infancy persists in the infant's without intervention.

No vegetable oil. Use olive or canola oil. The process of obtaining oil from vegetables uses too much chemicals. Its not good for you.😊

It’s hard to imagine humans going and killing these magnificent creatures to steal their child! If it were humans, they would get life in prison or death.

Certain animals like primates, elephants, and dolphins(orcas) should be kept in sanctuaries or the wild. That's it! Even well meaning and funded zoos have issues with them regarding mental health. They need to roam free and they are not pets💯

Well with all due respect that I'd not the only baby wooly monkey to be hand reared successfully...it may be the only one reared by humans in a zoo by "professionals" but there are quite a few that have been obtained by humans where they are native as newborns as "pets" or "rescues". Many have survived

These ppl are NOT Giving the mother a choice to raise her own baby! They start yelling how she’s trying to bite the baby!!! How do they know she’s about to bite the baby? She didn’t have any blood on her, the baby did not have a blood on it! The bottom line is, these humans see the baby, they think it’s cute, so they want to raise it themselves. Just like humans do, Stepien, ruins stuff. Let the monkey have her baby alone for a little while first. The first. After she had the baby was not enough time. They’re doing it all wrong

A PRIMATOLOGIST I ASSUME? Well, Allison and Jim are and they have been keepers for many decades prior to Jims death...these experienced ppl DO NOT NOR EVER HAVE taken a baby away from it's mom
      - - LIGHTLY....and have never responded to desperate situations such as this with emotional behaviors. Being "cute" and wanting to raise a baby monkey because it's 'en vouge' simply IS NOT the way THESE PARTICULAR conservationists do their life's work. So, before you go damning someone because YOU THINK that experienced people are behaving inappropriately....first, check yourself... YOU WERE NOT IN THE ROOM AND YOU COULD NOT SEE THE ENTIRE SCENARIO. Secondly, these people tried to allow mom every chance to feed baby AND resulted to sedating mom (something that they HATE doing ) just so it could have it's VERY FIRST
SUCKLE off of MOM! Third, there was a VERY EXPERIENCED VETERINARIAN in the immediate vicinity...Would you like to question his authority, skill, education, training and experience too? And yes, I do know these folks personally and professionally, they are incredibly dedicated to their charges they are INCREDIBLY
KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT PRIMATES, HOW THEY BEHAVE AND WHAT THEY NEED
      TO THRIVE, SURVIVE AND FLOURISH.
