    I noticed your doors walk up when you shut them. you need to reset the brace. body is splayed. before you weld in the heater channels. pull off the door stop and shut the door. you should set the gaps with the latches off.

      STOP living in the past! We've ALL had VW's, or we wouldn't be on this channel. Maybe you should consider a new Audi A4 or Volkswagen Tiguan Why because they're the logical evolution of everything that came before it.

    The two small round holes in each lower corner of the windshield opening is drain holes.
    Prior to cutting anything out. The doors should have been aligned and the inner body squared and cross braced. The few bars in there isn’t enough.
    There is so much cut out at now everything has to be moving around.

    maybe someone already said, but seems to me it would be a good idea to tack those heater boxes to the body while you have everything mounted to the chassis. Then remove and finish weld and do any other repairs. That should do two things, 1st it will make sure when you get all the work done it will go back on the chassis, and it will add rigidity to the body making sure your doors gaps are good.
    fyi I am not too far from you, so if you ever need an extra set of hands feel free to contact me. If I am able to, I would be happy to help out.

    For the dolly you made, I suggest you put another crossmember higher up in the rear, closer to the chassis mounting points. I think having only one crossmember could potentially warp the chassis.

    • @t.g.998
      @t.g.998 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe even some vertical 45 degree pieces on the front. If the rear cross bar and the long center bar was wielded flush you could add triangular bracing pieces there too.

    I noticed you had to lift the door to shut it, and I realize you didn’t make your work dolly “square” so the body flexes.
    Not a problem, YET.
    Once you get the inside cleaned up, AND, before you attach any new metal, please be sure you get the body square, the doors aligned, and gapped then weld braces in place to keep it that way, until it’s back on the pan, then you can remove the bracing, clean up the welds, and paint the inside.
    It’s going to be so cool, clean and new inside and underneath but real patina preserved on the outside.

  • @darkfactory8082
    @darkfactory8082 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    See, you're slowly becoming a master, although the process takes a lot of practice. Mmm, crunchy.. Those trim seals must be original from the factory.. 😉 Oh, the windows kanals need to be redone properly, which will involve some metal forming and shrinking, if you want to fix it properly and avoid sooner problems after. Da, rusted it is!
    Damn, I'm pretty concerned about the dolly stand though.. as it doesn't really give me the right feeling.. I would put in some diagonal braces, as I don't want to see it fold on itself if the casters "trip" on some channel or step in the floor.. You know, the smaler they are, the easier they "trip". And dropping what's on top when repaired, it's not really a good looking option. Anyway, good luck, I will watch the progress and the outcome. Cheers, you're doing great. 👍

    I personally would start welding the heater channels in with the body on the chassis. That is the best way since you have zero reference points with the body off. Take it it, else some metal to the front and lift the body back off to finish everything else

    3:20 The front bumper brackets and bumper are original German, far superior to Brazilian and worth keeping in addition to matching the patina.
    9:14 Those two holes were for when the body was dipped in primer, so could drain. They should have a tape applied, as water that gets past the seal will go into the A pillars and rot out the heater channels, like on Dad's 1964 Beetle (build thread over on theSamba).
    Hope this helps,
    Adriel
