- TH-cam has announce that it has plans to "optimize" the subfeed, which means they will stop showing videos there in chronological order and instead show you in a "personalized order". My fear is this is the final step in removing any control users have over content they see which will ultimately lead to the ruin of the platform.

Chronological order is the only way i ever liked social media feeds. And it's why I left Facebook years ago, and why I just stopped using instagram. I don't like some automated bot telling me what I'm interested in. Not only because it's hardly ever right, but because it feels big brother-ish. LET ME DECIDE THAT SHIT FOR MYSELF!

You can tell trending is garbage by the fact that it only has about 2 videos that you actually think would be interesting. The community of TH-cam is usually split into 3 chategories: comedy/vlogging, DIY, and gaming. You should be able to find around 10 videos you enjoy on trending, just because that’s how most users consume content, but since it is a huge advertisement you see none.

TH-cam really, *really* needs a competitor right now.
Seriously, that's the reason that some of its users (especially the TH-camrs left like Filthy Frank), it's been going like crap for years now. Since 2013, when they changed the layout it is the beginning of an end of this site. Why, it's because the comment section nowadays becomes a cesspool of hateful and cringy comments. When they put out the first nail, is the severely flawed Content ID system that ruined the subs of all youtubers and shoving us Google+ all over our faces.
It's now 2018, from the new update after the Logan Paul incident. When you need 1000 subs & 4000 hours of watchtime. Choking all of the smaller channels out of the window, that they have so much potential in the site. Also, most youtubers i've watched last their membership because of that. I really hope someone out there that it can put an end of once respected and our entertainment site called TH-cam to hell.

The most horrific new “feature” they’re testing is remaking our thumbnails. Sometimes random stock images and screencaps will show up as our video thumbnails in the Recommended feed instead of what we selected. Seriously.

I don't think so. In that case, regardless if THEY want to watch your content, if ANOTHER channel has more watchtime than yours it will get on top of your subfeed, and not your channel, even if that 'more popular' channel is only set up to give you occasional feed.
I don't even use subscriptions anymore honestly, recommended videos are way better. I get recommended videos that have tiny amounts of views, and I rarely get recommended things I don't end up liking.

I love the sub feed for being chronological. If I want to see what TH-cam recommends to me, I'll go to the home tab.
TH-cam doesn't care about content creators or TH-camrs. They care about getting views from external sources, like Google search results and viral Twitter and Facebook links.
Sadly, TH-cam had to do it to 'em. They are desperately trying to cash in as fast as possible since it has been unprofitable for years. Google gave them a time to become profitable and since they still really aren't, they have to pull this bullshit. RIP maybe amazon will make a competitor.

I don't think I've ever looked at the sub feed in the entire time I've watched TH-cam. When I do, it's for like a second & I leave it alone cause I couldn't even figure out what was going on with it before. I've always just gone to a channel & added videos I haven't watched to my Watch Later playlist. It's a bit more effort but I can be guaranteed I'll be watching what I want, in chronological order & still keeping up. Like this video.

The collapse of TH-cam and the rise of a competitor in the ashes will truly be a glorious moment. Can’t wait to finally see an alternative to this soulless mind-control wasteland. Sad, really. Many people (myself included) really kind of grew up with TH-cam. It’s been sort of a cultural touchstone, or at least the host for many. Now it’s just a faintly pulsating lump of ad revenue and politically motivated algorithm bullshit. Good riddance.

Taylor I don't want to see TH-cam fall, as this is really my only source of daily escapism, but a competitor will definitely force TH-cam and Google to think about their decisions and make changes that the audience wants, not just what sponsors want.

When “This Is America” by Childish Gambino was clocking in 14.4 Million views a day, the analysis videos of it and makeup videos were in the top 5 trending.
Everything is monitored, everything is controlled; and carefully selected so that they make sure you only see what they want you to see.
I’m a full time TH-cam streamer and this change has just about killed my channel. I used to get an average of 2K-5K viewers for the duration of my streams but that number dropped down to less than 300 overnight due to this change. I’m honestly so sad I could cry. I spent years building a channel and TH-cam just kills it without a second thought... sorry, I needed to vent.

I had 20 videos I'd uploaded, two of my 1968 Cadillac Eldorado Motorhome, 1 of me head butting a deer on my property, a logging truck rollover, several music videos of a band I used to sing for and several other videos, now completely gone from an old sign in user name. Gone with the google email sign in. The details and changes they are making are getting far more complicated. As if time doesn't fly by fast enough as it does now, we will waste more time figuring out how this far less fanciful idea they come up with now, who is doing this, why do they think we need the changes, it fricking sucks. 20 videos gone in the blink of an eye and no way to recover them but to stick my gopro camera in front of my (I can't log into my old account) and record them, and then add them to my new google youtube account. Is there another alternative aside from youtube.

They automatically set it to some notifications so it's there in case you want to turn their annoying presets off. I went through and did it the other day and it took forever. It's just another way for them to promote content at your cost.
Scott W when you subscribe to a channel it automatically puts you on "occasional" alerts. As someone who doesn't want any notifications from TH-cam, I enjoy being able to turn it off.
