DIY Travel Trailer: First Trip!

- This is the first inaugural camping trip in the DIY Travel Trailer! In all, we travelled 700+ miles in the DIY Travel Trailer and believe it or not... nothing broke! The solar panels and 12v system were able to keep the Dometic cooler, charging station and led lights all in full operation during the whole trip! No leaks or any repairs were needed either.... but I did take about 40lbs of extra tools, screws, tapes, glues, etc,.... just incase I needed to repair something along the way;)
We are super thankful that all went smoothly and we were able to enjoy the trailer after quite a long build. And very thankful for you guys watching this build progress from a used axle all the way to a travel trailer. Join us as we do our normal camping activities.... fishing, foraging, campfire cooking, meadow golf, relaxation and more!

Awesome to see the beautiful nature footage. Also very refreshing to see kids creatively playing outside instead of numbing their minds with electronics.
What a terrific family you have, whatever you all have been doing, keep it up! Young kids and camping, it doesn't get any better.... actually bacon and pancakes over a camp fire do!

Joe, Many, many thanks for sharing the happiness from your camping trip. Your daughter has shot up since I first saw her when you built a step stool. Daughter's are great but even though my youngest one will be 42 next.month, they never stop being dad's girl (and twisting us around their fingers). Every blessing to you and your family.
Thank you for watching Tony! It really was a huge joy to camp in the trailer with the girls... and the rest of the family too! We are already talking about the next trip! want to get all the use out of as we can...haha And yes, I can only imagine about the daddy's girl thing... my wife says I'm a total push over when Marley looks at me....lol.... and it's probably true;)

ps wanted to add that you should watch some you tube videos on how NOT to load your camper trailer so that it does not fish tail (not sure if that is the proper word) while driving at higher speeds. There are many you tube videos with actual examples & models to show what happens when you load to much in the rear part of your camper. Safe travels. Thank you for your comment. take care.

That camper is built better than any one that you'll buy new. All are built so cheaply and flimsy. To me that's the perfect size for a small family. Hope you guys enjoy it for many years!

For such a small trailer, great interior room. Takes me back to the 1958 Scotsman 15 foot. Not very fancy, hand pump to 10 gal. freshwater tank. no DC lights, and a propane gas light over the dining table. Great work. Love seeing eastern AZ as I live near Prescott and have only camped in this area. First pulled a trailer in 1959 at age 17.

How in Gods green earth can anyone give a thumbs down! No, your build isn't perfect. No, its not how I would have done it. But your building it for you and your lovely family, not me and mine. It's amazing though.
I hope you get a lifetime of use out of it and build memories that get passed down for generations.

Every state is different. They run the gamut from nearly impossible to a non issue
Ryan Carver Michael is right....varies greatly by state. Thing like lights and reflectors are standard thing that are similar between states. But tags, etc can vary.

Camping is the life,time spent with the ones you love outdoors is priceless. I have doing this for years with my family and the memories have no dollar amounts.enjoy those great memories together.
This is the best DIY camper build I have seen and I have watched a TON, as I am looking to build one my self. Thank you so much for sharing your build design, as well as, the final product. It was so cool to see you and the family enjoying the finished camper. I have to go back and watch the side videos on the bumper and stuff, but well done!

Great video. I recommend bringing some wider pads for your tongue and leveling pads. They sell them or you can get some scrap boards or cut plywood to at least 8x8”. Will prevent sinking in softer ground.

Nice trailer! Tip....Place wood blocks under the jack stand foot and stabilizers! That will help prevent them from sinking into the ground and making the trailer un-level.

Grew up in Globe. My dad was the football coach along with teaching P.E. and drivers ed. The salt river canyon was where they did their mountain driving course. He had more than a few close calls with his students.
Our favorite area to camp. We camp just past buffalo crossing every year. Maybe we'll see you up there sometime!

Everybody is talking about how great a family this is, and that's true. But I'm just having a hard time believing this is a homemade trailer. This thing is absolutely amazing. There's nothing homemade about it.
