Why Apple Slows Down Older iPhones

    Slowing down iPhones without informing customers was poor practice by Apple. Customers want transparency. Adding the override switch was the right thing to do and is what they should have done in the first place.

      Actually it didn’t cost Apple anything. Do you think Tim Cook’s salary has gone down because of this? No they just roll that into the price of Apple products. All these frivolous lawsuits aren’t a victory for consumers like many people think. The only people that profit off of them are lawyers. The consumers are the ones paying for this.

      Users should have the right to decide whether to have their own iPhone slowed down or not. And instead of slowing down the iPhone automatically, there should be a warning to remind the user to replace the detachable battery. Not one that has to be replaced at an Apple store. Apple slowed down the phones at their best interest, not the customer’s.

  • @TheBritishPatriot

    The reason why they did it made sense, the fact that they did not put out a statement informing customers beforehand and providing an option switch was what got them so much criticism.

      Not a problem for a lot of us also, the problem is that even you bring a seamless solution to fight the problem cause you know people will not understand why in the first place and that's not worth getting the backlash for it so you keep doing your thing, it's the people that will get mad anyway cause even though they could be allowed to use their old battery from 3 years of intensive usage, they will be like "god damn it iPhone sucks" while in the meantime the fault is on their side wanting the best out of their phone with a crappy battery.

      This is right to some extent but its more to do with the stubbornness of Apple not providing consumers with a larger battery to start with. At the dimension of iPhone, it can easily fit in larger battery like other Androids do but it will not for the same reason, 1. to save cost 2. throttle or no throttle people will get fed up and upgrade.
      Its not because Apple cares for its consumers and hence throttles the device instead of letting it shut down, its because if such things happen(and because of the smaller battery shut down will happen), its brand name will suffer so why not throttle and because they were caught red handed they have no where to hide than to provide a larger battery in the recent models.
      How will you explain the fact that 12 pro max dimensions are almost like S21 Ultra but the battery is no where near 5000MaH, because Apple wants to SAVE COST and have the smaller battery DEGRADE and people can upgrade. Why when buying a second hand iPhone people care about the battery health so much and while buying Android no one asks about battery health because the batterys are large to start with.
      I don't believe Apple have cared for consumers ever and its only when they are caught red handed doing wrong things or the competition has moved way ahead of it, that it tries to play catch up.
      So please stop giving reasons for every thing Apple does because whatever it does, it does in such a way that it feels as if it is doing for the consumers but really its done to earn more $$$$$

    I think it’s a little column a, and column b. They slow it down to help maintain the life of the phone, but the updates to the iOS could deliberately be made to intentionally make it run more intensely and requiring the need to downclock the performance. This can cause frustrated users to have to make the switch to a newer iPhone

    Actually opposite, newer versions of iOS are built with old gen iPhones in mind (i.e iOS 12 or 14)
    this used to be very different, i.e. going from iOS 6 to 7 or to iOS 9 (on 4S and iPad 2)

      @@justme8740 Yes it's a good thing that they provide 5 years updates but then get caught throttling the phone or consumer anyway have to change their small battery after 3 or so years 🤣🤣 Besides Apples iOS updates does not bring huge changes to its system, there will be tweak here and tweak there and hence can afford 5 years update. Where else every Andoid version it brings in huge cutting tech changes, innovations etc. to which Apple plays catching up.
      For example the lame widgets implementation which although looks great, it lacks in functionality, iPhone got widgets after a decade of Android. Anyway I think 3 years of current Android updates are still great as innovations runs high with Android and it's OEMs.
      With Samsung new devices they are now offering 4 years updates and The pixel 6 will also offer 5 years updates anyway so that Apple so called advantage will be gone soon 😂😂😊🤫🤫

    • @robp.1575
      @robp.1575 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a physical problem. When the battery degrades, its internal resistance increases. Following Ohm‘s law, if the processor now draws a lot of power, the voltage of the battery drops below the point where it is able to satisfy the demand so the device shuts down.

  • @mightymurph3949
    @mightymurph3949 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Maybe im missing something:
    So if the slowdown occurs due to a worn down battery, and to prevent over exertion on the battery, which in turn can result in unexpected shutdowns, then will replacing the battery to have 100% battery health prevent the slowdowns?

    • @joonken
      @joonken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you have it backwards. An old battery by itself does not slowdown your phone. An old battery can cause unexpected shutdowns. Apple decided to slow the phones with old batteries (only those that have experienced an unexpected shutdown at least once); so that it will no longer shutdown randomly.
      If you experience an unexpected shutdown, and your phone is slowed down, you now have an option to turn the it off in settings, but your phone will again be exposed to potential random shutdowns. Before the whole issue was exposed, if you experienced a shutdown, your phone was slowed down but there was no way to turn it off. Your only option to regain the lost performance was by replacing your battery.
      No one really has an issue with how Apple tried to prolong the devices’ life span by slowing the devices down. The problem was that they did it without the users’ knowledge or consent, and without the option to turn the feature off.

      If 🍎 doesn’t do that you can’t get those latest software updates like iOS 15 even if your phone is 6 years old like iPhone 6s and later,it will be like android,you can keep your software up to date for 1 year if 🍎 doesn’t do that. That’s not an excuse,they just come to interfere. And as Greg said you will get unexpected shutdown if 🍎 doesn’t slow down your iPhone or iPad,I experience it sometimes very rarely when I run heavy apps or games like Genshion impact on my surprisingly old iPad mini 2. That’s why I am planning to buy that iPad mini 6 which is coming this fall.

    Fast answer: Do people want: an iphone that crashes and restarts randomly and has battery issues OR an iphone which Has a little less performance than its start but can still be used
