I bought my first VCA piece, the 5 motifs bracelet in Mother of Pearl, and it was the first time I ever spent that much money on myself. I couldn't believe it. It was my dream bracelet, especially in mother of pearl, because it looked so flowery & delicate, shiny and pure white. Very romantic vibe. And I also liked the History (some of my favourite "celebrities" wore it, like Grace Kelly and Françoise Hardy. It's very Vintage looking). Later on, I bought the matching pendant. It's still amazing to me I could buy that. And I think the bracelet is especially popular because you can see it. By that I mean you yourself can enjoy it, whereas a necklace / earrings are for the others to enjoy in a way. I don't regret anything, though I do pay attention to it when I wash my hands and I wipe it clean with a soft cloth every night when I take it off. The pendant is less fragile I think, because it's less exposed to water & sweat.
P.S: I also NEVER see it in my everyday life. I'm the only one with fine jewelry, these brands are only famous, or "everywhere" on social media, certainly not in my world. I'm a teacher and it took me 4 years to have the money to buy my bracelet.

So I don’t wear VCA, but I do buy it for my wife. My wife was introduced to VCA when we were planning our wedding and shopping for wedding bands in 2019; I was already familiar with the brand but tended to associate it with more mature women. What sold my wife on VCA was the customer service and how she was treated by the SA. For context my wife and I both grew up in and continue to reside in the USA, but our families of origin come from different class groups. While shopping for wedding bands my wife and I stopped by the usual suspects… Cartier, Tiffany, Bulgari, Graff, etc. but my wife was not treated very well by most of the boutiques, which I associate with classism but which might actually have been a sales technique. Things were different at VCA. My wife was treated as a valued potential customer and because of that my wife has been hooked. I have since bought her multiple pieces from VCA typically for special life milestones such as her birthday and our wedding anniversary.

I just don’t want something that so many people have. It’s not just true of this ubiquitous bracelet; pick any ‘trending’ item, and that makes it less attractive to me. Because I don’t want to replicate others’ style, and because what is in will inevitably be out. High quality materials and design are always worth seeking out, but I will always want things that feel unique or at least unusual and won’t wear out their welcome - not due to manufactured scarcity/luxury status, but perhaps due to its age/history (vintage > everything else), or it being a design that wouldn’t appeal to everyone, or coming from small designers rather than the ever-present heavy hitters.

As you noted, a piece’s durability depends on the materials and stones used. I prefer selecting durable stones (diamonds) or no stones for everyday wear. I wear my Sweet Alhambra rose gold pendant (no stones) everyday and rarely take it off. I’ve worn it for years and it still looks beautiful and classic! 💕

I have been collecting VCA for a long time and currently have 32 pieces. Time is repeating itself but on a larger scale bc of media. Back in 2009-2010 (in CT) VCA went through a popular phase there were a ton of fake clovers and a 20 motif necklace used to be 7k. Then VCA went back into hibernation or remained quite luxury until covid. I love their timeless designs and quality. I have the best luxury experience with my SA and the brand compared to other high brands. I wish VCA wasn’t currently an overdone trend but I’m also happy for the people that get to experience it. Like with any investment it should be well thought through and not based on what you think you need. Cassie you are naturally beautiful everything about you is on point today!

Great video as always Cassie. I’m a long-time collector of both Cartier and VCA Alhambra. I stopped wearing my love bracelet a few years ago, not because i loved it any less but because it’s become too unsafe to wear it as it doesn’t come off! Haha I still wear my Alhambra collection pieces often, and I agree with you, part of their charm is the collectibility factor - being able to collect different styles and colors. There are TONS of fakes of them here in the GCC where I live now. Every jewelry shop in the mall has fakes of them. I, like many long time collectors of VCA, have moved on to collecting pieces from the VCA frivole collection now. I imagine that will soon become very social media trendy as well.
Also, I never knew about all of this baby-ing that people talk about and I wore (and still wear) my mother of pearl van Cleef set pieces all the time without any worry.
I also wanted to point out that VCA is a bit like Hermes in that they also offer special orders to their VIP clients.

Like many, I started off our collection with multiple Alhambra pieces. VCA has a ton of different collections that are just as beautiful as Alhambra. My favorites are Perlee, Frivole, Butterfly and Alhambra (of course). VCA is a slippery slope because you’re first allured by the Alhambra but there are many collections that are just as, if not more, beautiful!

I have a few VCA pieces starting from 10 years ago. I have always admired the delicate-ness and craftmanship of them. I love the concept of the holiday pendant (only have 2018). I actually got annoyed when it blew up on social. But I'll admit I love a good alhambra pop of color on the right outfit. My favorite is actually the perlee collection which I think is the most wearable and my lotus earrings which are both a little more "under the radar". My Cartier pieces are Clash because theyre the most unique to me (again you can see the craftmanship).

I don't have a bracelet, but I do have my mom's one motif vintage VCA Alhambra necklace from 1968. Dad got it for her for Christmas that year. I was just a kid then, and thought it was very pretty. It's yellow gold with lapis stone. I just had it tightened. I wear it only once in a while because I don't want anything to happen to it. Currently it hangs off of the rear view mirror in my car. I do keep it for the sentimental value. (Jan Griffiths).

I like the Alhambra MOP motif. It is lovely & timeless. I actually first fell in love with a fake one at a jewelry store years ago before I knew it was a VCA replica. Two years later I realized it was VCA so I called the jewelry store to see if they sold preloved VCA & explained that I’d seen one in their store a few years back. They explained that they make dupes/replicas of some designs for ppl who want real gold but do not want to pay the luxury brand markup. But they do not put fake logos or names on it so it would not say VCA for example if I bought one. This year for my bday I bought the real thing. I do not know anyone in my day to day life with VCA & I have never seen anyone with one. Social media does not reflect most ppl’s day to day life. VCA is popular for a reason & the popularity is well earned - if you actually like it. I would not be spending those prices just to keep up with trends or for clout which is what some ppl do. But to each his/her own. I am going to wear & enjoy my bracelet (but I will stick to the one).

Just before covid and during covid I seriously thought about adding Alhambra pieces to what I currently own - which are Cartier love and JUC pieces. But after doing a lot of research I realized that they are not for me due to what you spoke about - durability. I'm someone who likes to put classic pieces on and just leave them on and not worry about them. The fact that I can't shower or exercise in these beautiful items was a deal breaker for me. I did come VERY close to buying a bracelet at one time and the service in the boutique at South Coast Plaza was the worst and most pretentious I have experienced so that was also a very big turn off.

Great informative video per usual 👏 over the last several years I have been buying more jewelry then bags. For one of the reasons you mentioned. Price. $4k bag that you have to babysit so it won't get ruined or a nice piece of jewelry that you can wear in a battle and have no damage. You can also put it on your home owners insurance. Bags you can't. VC I will never buy. I want a unique piece of jewelry that no one else has.

I think was the whole trend thing you gotta ask yourself did I want this piece or was I interested in this piece before it was popular and want to get it now or have the means to get it now? Or are you getting it because It’s the thing to do and you could live without it. Just like the love bracelet I think that some people are going to like and keep these new trendy bracelets for a while, but unfortunately, I think that’s a very small percentage until the next big thing or accessory is announced. Then these bracelets will lose all value of the branding and be worth simply the materials at cost even the van Cleaf is a luxury house. It still has this feeling of entry-level luxury and it’s not the same experience as buying other luxury jewelry. This is more like a Pokémon, collect the all type of situation and I have a feeling in the next year to these people who are buying them will either regret it or won’t wear them. Basically I don’t see them as a classic even though they’re pretty bland and I also am not a van Cleef girl nothing against anything to do with the brand I just like more unique pieces for the price.

Yeah Cassie, but the real question is how many of the Van Cleef bracelets that we're seeing on the streets are real? Cause I just watched a video here on TH-cam about counterfeit items and the U.S. customs. Van Cleef and Cartier bracelets are the #1 item they confiscate in U.S. customs. So, that means one thing .... A very large majority of the Van Cleef and Cartier bracelets we are seeing are not real. *sideeye*

I own a guilloche bracelet in white gold and wear it as a necklace. Tried the pendant but wasn't happy with how it looked, especially the thin chains. Did the girl math and thought getting the bracelet version is "cheaper" lol. There are a million dupes, but guilloche is very easy to spot knockoffs. The fakes do not look as precise as the original. I'm usually not a VCA gal, but I was amazed with all the small details.
I love jewelry and guilloche is one of my favorite techniques. However, I must say that cleaning this bracelet yourself is very difficult. It's prone to scratches and I knew that before purchasing. I send mine once in a couple months for professional cleaning in the atelier. It was the most expensive shopping in my life, but the sparkle is worth it.

I def can respect others who don't see the allure for the same reasons that I do like them! I love gemstones and the fragility behind them. I love the natural creation of the gemstones and how each one is slightly different. I like the entire vibe of VCA for its whimsical fairytale like story they create. It's so beautiful, def eye catching and enhances a plain outfit so easily. The different colours is for sure a great selling point as I am a creature of habit and like all shiny pretty things. 😂

visually, I think VCA is fantastic, I love the uniqueness of the stones which a lot of the large fine jewellery houses do not reeeeally offer. but when I make a fine jewellery purchase, I always try VCA pieces on but ultimately end up going for something much more unique such as Chaumet or Messika! I think the alhambra is very overdone now, and once something is so common, in my opinion, it loses its specialness 🙃
