That’s why for stopping seizures benzodiazepines are used on mucous membranes and not IM. That could be propofol, though I have only seen it used intravenously, so I don’t know if it would be safe and effective to use IM.

One of my city's post secondary institutions has one of its campuses on the grounds on a decommissioned Asylum campus . There's superstition the cottages on the east end of the campus are haunted in the blocked off interconnected tunnels beneath them.

There's an episode of the Simpsons where Homer's mom comes back into the picture. It's called Mother Simpson. It's in Season 7 and that one has always had an impact on me because of the ending. Homer keeps trying to get his mother's attention while she's trying to spend time with her grandchildren. I thought it might be an interesting episode to analyze because of Homer's attention seeking behaviors.
the Simpsons creators have come out and said they don't really research things much at all, they get a basic surface level understanding and just go with it and really neverminded the details. They simply don't care, and yes, they have done things and shown things that are extremely stereotypical and reinforce negative stereotypes and misconceptions (a very good example is glowing green goo everywhere in a Nuclear power plant which is insanely inaccurate and reinforces a negative perception on nuclear power in general, but it's a common trope and they went with it, and they seriously didn't care for many years). And that was just the reality of many tropes depicted on the Simpsons for many years up until very very recently; the show writers just strait up did not care if they get anything "right" or "acurate", as long as it was "funny" to a "majority of people" it was OK with them.
There was a later episode where Homer was found to have a crayon stuck in his frontal lobe. It was removed and he was intelligent like Lisa. I can't recall why he had Moe put the crayon back and his I Q. dropped. That's probably why Homer has impulse problems and why he engages in high risk behaviors such as DUI's, numerous falls from roofs,canyons etc.😅

Isn't the last part of the definition at 10:33 a little odd? Two people can hold identical fixed beliefs with 100% certainty despite all evidence to the contrary, but if only one of them claims the belief is part of their religion then only the other one will be said to be delusional?

I think religious and other spiritual beliefs are generally not seen as medical delusions, because religious beliefs are usually incorporated into someone's life and identity, and therefore do not usually cause dysfunction. One of the most important criteria in the DSM for almost any disorder is that it must cause a certain degree of dysfunction in a person's life in order to justify it labeling as pathological. If religous beliefs were classified as a delusion in the medical sense, that would mean pathologizing perhaps the majority of people in the world. This would not be ethical or practical medicine.
serious question: why is one's religious beliefs the exception for defining delusion? if your religious, spiritual or cultural beliefs fit every single parameter for being a delusion then why are they not considered such?

The latter is really interesting, because while Lisa turns into a bad girl due to her test results, Bart turns into a junior cop because of his! Just a really great episode all around.

You should check out a Silent Voice, it's an anime on Netflix that talks about teenage depression, bullying and suicide. It's a great movie and would love to see you check it out.

I get the illusion thing. I one woke in the night to a man standing over me at the foot of my bed. I think its one of the only times in my life i have ever screamed out in fear. He didnt move and after a few moments i summoned the courage to turn on the light. It was a clothes airer. It was the weirdest thing as when i eventually calmed down enough to turn the lights back off, it still looked like an airer. And you're right, it wasnt a hallucination. I didnt see a man, i saw an inanimate object that in my groggy state in the dark my brain mislabelled as "man". I didnt put the airer there again though.

Why is religious belief specifically excluded from the definition of delusion?
Seems awfully convenient. If you believe in a demon watching your every move you are having a delusion, but if it's God then all is good?

I think it's the difference between harmful and helpful beliefs
I see no reason why it should be excluded. It fits the criteria of delusion. The field of psychology is not above special pleading.
