Yes on the rating system! I still rate city of bones a 5 stars today even if after having reread it so many times I can see all the "flaws" bc it's literally the book that got me into reading back in middle school & then I'll turn around & read a book that I think is better than city of bones but give that a 4 stars LOL I used to think Im not allowed to rate certain books "too high" or "too low" but at this point idc anymore my ratings are literally just for me

My unpopular opinion would be that I can't read too smutty books because i feel like they have no plot.Also I hate dark romances they are way too toxic for my taste.
me too and i felt so bad for not liking some of those popular smutty books. Cough cough - punk 57 - cough cough
Yeah I am getting so sick of dark romances. Like… especially when the guy is a really bad person but has some trait or a tragic backstory, so it’s all excused. Also I hate how most of the female leads in most books I read, especially YA fantasy/dystopia/romance just melt together, they have maybe one trait that is different from the others, it’s getting so boring. I kind of didn’t like her, but due to that, Jude from The Cruel Prince was refreshing for me. She makes so many mistakes, and sometimes I wish there was a moment where she learns her lesson, but we know why she does the things she does. She’s not a safe and boring character like most female leads. Male leads are also repetitive at times, but I think they almost always have some charming trait that makes us like them anyways, and I WISH THEY DID THAT FOR FEMALE LEADS. Or better yet, give them a personality other than plain, usually kind of quiet, nice most of the time, and smart. Also a backstory other than having dead parents. PLEASE.
when you said its okay to have an inconsistent rating system i felt that in my soul because i could give two books the same rating but my feelings about those two books could be SO different😅 I also love searching everything up on wikia

the thing i dislike about series is that i always make myself read the first book, wether it’s good or not, and then i’m like “well what if it gets better” and than i read the second one and at that point i’ve already invested too much time to just not finish the series, so i will almost always finish a series even if it’s terrible

A VERY unpopular opinion I have is that I absolutely love major character death in books and I think it should be done more often especially in YA fantasy books. I'm so sick of reading books were some big battle happens and everyone ends up coming out of it without a scratch .
I think most of my infatuation with this trope comes from the fact that I already have enough sadness in life , and using a book as an excuse to cry over relieves the pain a bit(lmao)

THIS!! That's basically why in game of thrones George RR Martin decided to kill so many major characters because he thinks it's very unrealistic for a group of people going into battle or something and all of them survived. It's kinda painful but I like that better.

when u said u don't pronounce things in your head and pointed out Leigh Bardugo's books in particular I immediately thought of the nichevo'ya. The whole time reading Siege and Storm & Ruin and Rising I would just look at the word but never pronounce it lol! Miss Bardugo's really out here using convoluted words and expecting us to know how to say them.

Hahah my language is simmilar to Russian so i had no problem with those words , but I pronounced Wylan's name wrong for the entirety of SoC
If you love a good slowburn romance, The Raven Cycle is sooo good for that. You might not see it in the first book, but by the end you know❤

I'm the exact opposite with book stains, cracked spines and dog ears🤣🤣 I honestly don't know why I just love new books to be pristine hahaha, which is why I end up buying used books all the time so I try to avoid that obsession (and it also means I don't have to fear lending it to people). Totally agree about the rating system, sometimes I'd give 5 stars not always because of positive feelings, but because of the way its written, or even solely because of the characters etc❤

i think it depends on the genre, but i actually prefer series or like a series in which the books can be read as standalones 🤔 just feels more complete, idk

my unpopular book opinions (some that i feel are REALLY unpopular):
- i don't like deckled edges
- i think special edition books (eg. illumicrate editions, b&n/target exclusive chapters) are a scam that cause readers to spend more money than they should
- books should be treated as utilitarian art rather than just consumable objects/media
- i will not read a book solely based on what kind of representation is featured, and people who do do this i feel tokenize bipoc and their experiences as something they can check off their list of diversity, equity, and inclusion for their reading. diversity in books is incredibly important, but reading diverse books with only this intention undermines the author's experiences, what messages and themes the author is trying to convey, and the story itself.
- most "classic" books are actually good (looking at you "catcher in the rye") but they were either forced upon hs students for class or they need more background/historical information to understand better
I hate deckle edges. I look to run my hand along the page as I read and that totally ruins it.

I HATE Colleen Hoover. I read 2 books and they were really bad. I loved YA as a teen, but now I find them cringey and poorly written. Not sure if the books back then were better? I’m in my 20s.
Omg fr. I don't HATE her books, but the way she was hyped up made me expect more. I started reading her first book, it ends with us. And was a bit disappointed because it was hyped up SO much so I was expecting more. Not a BAD book but it was ok. Then I read Regretting You, Reminders of him and Ugly Love. And i didnt get why she is so hyped. I mean her writing style is average and so are the storylines. Again, not saying they're BAD but they're not worth the hype in my honest opinion.
I don't hate her but I am not a fan of her female leads. I have tried getting to her book it ends with us, dropped it in around the...third or second chapter then Verity, dropped it by the 2nd chapter ugly love I am trying to lower my expectations so that I can read it. Skimming through the book....not bad but I don't like her female leads they remind me of sad, typical cliché nothing interesting than feeling sad all the time y/n in fanfics (no hate to fanfictions. They are awesome and I love em to death but honestly I know a number of fanfics that a better in my opinion)

1. I love when books are sad without huge character deaths
2. Colleen hoover is bad… it ends with us is good but like her writing spoonfeeds us what’s happening and like no representation or poc MCs
3. Sarah j maas and other authors liek that who don’t write poc MCs are harmful
4. Booktok books are trash but I read them bc I can’t find other ones 😭😭 they’re all the same and like the same four get rotated
5. It’s really hard for books to like click for me and make me give it five stars and idk if it’s just me but 😭😭

NO I 100% AGREE WITH THE FIRST ONE
Omg, I am a very feelings-oriented person, and I always can tell when something rubs me the wrong way, or I am absolutely in love with something, BUT SINCE MY BRAIN IS SUCH AN INFURIATING LITTLE BITCH, I have zero confidence in my opinions on anything, such as books I read. Especially if I like it. It can’t just make me happy, it needs to have some deeper meaning, or a reason why it is such a superior piece of art. Which is really stupid because I usually don’t have a logical reason for why I like something, so therefor I look for any second opinion I can find that gives me a reason to like a book, so I can justify it for myself. And then if a review or something is negative, I just ignore it lol especially if I’ve already decided something is comforting to me, cause I’m only looking for confirmation. Like my brain is acting like I need a whole list of reasons to like something, so I can feel sure about liking it. It’s definitely my heaping pile of insecurity that I usually have some control over, but it seeps out from time to time. It’s even worse when I want someone to read a book I like, because I will legit give them a whole essay about why they should read it, like I am making a business proposition, not a book suggestion. And I always want them to tell me their opinion afterwards, and usually they don’t know that, so I then and just really sad or annoyingly ask them what they think about it. I think I just need to CHILL, and trust my feelings and that no one is going to judge me if they don’t agree. Idk if anyone else relates to this, or if it’s just my sensitive-anxious self lol.
