I have always doubled the Graham Cracker Crust. Reduce your amount of Chocolate Chips and make up that portion with Butterscotch Chips. Butterscotch chip adds a very distinct flavor, yummy too. Cool completely, then refrigerate for about 1/2 hour, then cut into small pieces. Refrigeration helps to set the butter in the crust, the chips firm up and the condensed milk is more firm. After you cut the bars then store at room temperature. Don't use Peanut Butter chips, they will make these cookie bars taste like a lot of other cookies bars, please use the Butterscotch chips. Butterscotch chips make these Cookie Bars 'Zing'. Trust me and try it. I've been making these 7 Layer Cookie Bars since 1972.

Evaporated milk is thin & condensed milk is thick. U have it backwards. Love these bars they've been around as long as I can remember.

Yes that makes a big difference because it holds everything together and caramelizes in the oven and gets chewy I like less chocolate maybe do some peanbuttrr chips

This is my favorite dessert! I add PB chips and they balance the chocolate out and I don't use any coconut. I also use a pre made graham cracker pie crust. This makes easy, fast and convenient for me. Thanks for the video!

I wondered about a pre-made pie crust! I think peanut butter would be heavenly!

I have made this recipe for about 20 years, soooo good. I can't make it anymore because I will sit and eat the whole thing. :|
Make them with walnuts! The best. Also I'd make these with half chocolate and half butterscotch chips. Yum. :D

In 1982 my company's coworkers made a cookbook, and we could put our favorite recipe in it. This is one of mine, but how it has changed, even the name. It was called 7 Layer Bars. Melted butter, graham cracker crumbs, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, sweetened shredded coconut, chopped pecans, then pour condensed milk over all. It will spread while cooking. I always let it cool, then put in refrigerator until chilled. The secret in making a pretty one, is what you did, don't be tempted to add extra as it will come out looking like a jungle...lol...I never pressed any layer. Hope this is ok to tell you. I hadn't thought of this for years. It is second only to the cracker candy recipe, an almond Roka kind of candy.

I pretty much make this the same ..Except..I friend taught me..after crust is patted down.. i put 1/2c. of all topping you mentioned in 1 big bowl, mix with my hands, then sprinkle all over bar, it looks so good& even..& at Christmzs I add Mini M&M's for Color!! Pour 3/4 of milk over top..bake,cool,as directed..they are THE talk of the party..Try mixing them this way next time you make them!!!❤
      Happy Baking!!!

I've made these for years, I for go melting the butter and mixing in a bowl. I just put my pan with the butter in the pan in the preheating oven, once melted I just scatter the graham crumbs over the melted butter.

Hi Ya'll, I have been making these for 40 years. My next door neighbor gave me this recipe, which WAY BACK then was named "Hello Dolly's" and the recipe called for the Eagle Brand to be poured on last. Have always made them this way. They never fall apart. Hope this was helpful!!!

Sweetened condensed milk is thicker & extremely sweet, evaporated milk is more liquid like regular milk. The can you opened isn't as thick as it usually is.

I use alot less Nestles chocolate chips...only about 1/2 cup.
I find you can taste the DELICIOUS caramel that the condensed milk bakes into alot better with less chocolate chips. and I only use Diamond walnuts, also toast the walnuts first, then cool before adding, gives the walnuts a nuttier taste and also sprinkle maybe a little less than half a cup of Baker's brand shredded sweetened coconut...

Ya love butter, eh? You eat those while you play World Of Warcraft & wash it down by chugging a 2-liter of Mountain Dew. Hit the gym, not the magic cookie bars with your boyfriend.
