9:35 "Adult Content Creator" includes adult illustrators and writers and other artists while the term "model" is specific to the people in front of the camera.
yeah, in addition to being a mouthful, it's overinclusive and imprecise IF you mean "performer/model". Content creation arguably also involves more than just artists, there's the whole business side from producers to platform programmers.
Model refers to someone that is only paid to be on camera talent. A creator can be the on camera talent, as well as the editor and producer and 100% owner of the condo that they are putting out but if they are specifically only the army camera talent than they are just a model.
Guess that makes me an adult content creator as well...? I'm a translator working with smut and erotica, but adult content worker/creator/anything-along-these-lines sounds much better 😈😈
@@Dx20xygen7 I actually work with literary and game translation, but yes, some people do read the captions! I got into this industry precisely because I have a friend who works as a subtitler for a "corn" company. I don't know what to tell you man. Whatever tickles people's fancy I guess.
Amanda realizing she was the voyeur at this event just absolutely made me cackle😂 Thank you for going to such a wide range of events and covering them (respectfully) for us, it’s always an interesting peek into different lives and interests that I wouldn’t necessarily know about otherwise.
Because I saw how the word was spelt here I looked up what it meant OH hehehe lol That's both kinda hot and super cute at the same time wtf is wrong with my brain 🤣 Well what a perfect event to realize that at right
Swell I just wanted to say that as a professional event planner I love these videos. You provide lots of helpful critiques that I can keep in mind while planning my own events!
That’s what I was thinking about, if I ever am in the position to plan an event, or if I was an event planner, these videos are great to watch for research and learn what not to do and what to keep in mind. Very helpful and informative!
As a former event planner, there are moments I wish I could come in and to supplementary commentary on Swell’s event coverage. The communications problems she’s talking about are long since solved by other shows and I wish we could talk about the available solutions… some of them are almost pathetically simple, like signage and program books/event apps.
To provide a man’s perspective on the whole “women tell me they’re huge fans and guys try and play it cool” phenomena, if I encounter a woman who I’m a fan of, I’m conscious of the fact that the vast majority of stalkers or “fans” who behave/think in dangerous ways towards female content creators are men. I enjoy telling them I’m a fan of their work, but I don’t want the thought to cross their mind that I’m going to follow them home or propose to them or something, so I do tend to minimize the amount of their time I take up, and the enthusiasm I show for them. Better than making them uncomfortable or fearful.
I've had to adjust the way I interact with women since I transitioned. I 'get away' with a lot of my old mannerisms because I'm obviously Not Straight, but I'm not obviously Not Cis anymore, and that's a little more difficult to reckon with.
@@Avendesorayeah I’m currently transitioning and it’s an active thing I’m having to work on. I’m autistic so I naturally have issues interacting with people and seeming “normal” and now I have to be careful that I don’t seem creepy either. I would absolutely hate to make anyone uncomfortable or concerned for their safety around me.
@@Avendesora this is so real. I think I present myself in a way that makes it clear im not fully straight but I have really had to put in the work to make sure I'm not making them think I am a creep. Its not that I forget men are threats I just forget that I am now included in that group which is hard. im only like 11 months on T rn, so still something I am having to practice and learn but damn its a struggle sometimes
@ The biggest issue for me has been complimenting people on the way they present themselves. I learned the hard way that there are some things men seem to generally only compliment if they're looking at women a certain way lmao. Thankfully hair, nails, makeup, and accessories are all generally safe
Yes we need more education about the difference between legalizing and decriminalization of sex work. I only recently found out about it myself. It doesn't much effect me but knowing the difference will make me smarter when any kind of legislation that concerns sex work is being voted on.
Do you lack critical thinking skills or the ability to do your own research? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that until there's a way to prevent pimping and situation where women are at risk of being pressured into it by a boss/manager that it's gotta be decriminalized. Until we get a we work for sex work with security there's no safe way for legalized sex work.
Decriminalition means while it’s still illegal. It’s now a miss demeanor instead of a criminal charge. Aka they won’t go to jail and won’t have a criminal record. At most they can get a fine and/or be referred to mandatory education/treatment program. At bare minimum people with criminal records will have the fact that they have one pop up in most background checks so say good bye to visas, jobs, housing ect.
@@mohmohthesmog7179 *that’s NOT what decriminalization is when discussing sex work laws!!!!* under full decriminalization, consensual adult sex work is *fully legal* for everyone involved. no fine, no mandatory “treatment,” no mark on any background check. also, that’s not what a misdemeanor is. you can be sentenced to years in prison for a misdemeanor. selling/ buying sex is actually already a misdemeanor in nearly every US state, and in almost every state, a prostitution/ solicitation conviction can result in a months-to-years long prison sentence. (btw, i’m sorry if my comment comes off a little harsh - i’m trying to be straightforward and i know that can sound brusque online. please know i’m not attacking you!! everything you said was incorrect, but it’s extremely easy to get confused about this stuff and i’m not judging you at all. i’m trying to educate, not argue! lmk if you’re interested in any more info/ resources)
As a woman viewer, i hear too often that fans are creeps. If i have a para-social attachment to you then i would play it down a lot to mask and not be one of the bad fan stories. If i was a man that’s how id feel around any woman influencer.
i find it so weird cuz like... dont you LIKE them? why would u want to creep them out? wouldnt you want to make them feel comfortable instead? so odd to me
that’s what i was thinking, i always try to be more lowkey when meeting someone i’m a fan of to make sure i can’t be misconstrued as obsessive or stalker-y or make the person uncomfortable. it’s weird because you can’t tell how you come off to the other person and i think going into meeting someone by letting them know you know a lot about them when they know nothing about you is inherently kinda awkward
@@sora1498 Not making excuses for them, but I honestly think most of the creepy ones just don't consider how their actions make other people feel. Absolutely no self awareness, and little motivation to develop some -- especially if they already assume ~certain groups~ only exist to make them feel good / aren't owed basic respect.
Something short circuits and they forget that you don’t constantly owe them your time or attention just because you choose to give it to them sometimes when you feel like it.
As a man, if I meet someone like a TH-camr etc. I 100% relate to the guys you met who were trying to be nonchalant when they met you, because I'm concerned that if I go full on fanboy I'm going to come across as a creep.
I usually go to horror conventions and have disciplined myself to be cool around the celebrities. However, I happened upon Brad "The Cinema Snob" Jones unexpectedly and turned into a gushing fanboy. Mind you, this was around 2010 to 2012ish, before TH-cam personalities really became regulars at conventions, so I think it was the surprise of it that made me lose my cool.
@SpockvsEgon I embarassed myself meeting The Animaniacs but they were still so nice and so understanding and I got a hug from all of them. Sometimes it's really hard NOT to fanboy/girl.
100%, this is it. It's not at all about trying to seem cool for me, it's about being afraid of making the other person uncomfortable in some way, especially if they're a woman. I'm acutely aware that I am a total stranger to them and our relationship is entirely parasocial and that puts them in a very poor position socially and makes it very easy to be a creep. So, no matter how much I try to gush, instead I just say "love your work!" and move on
As a former virtual sex worker, I really appreciated this video! AVN was an event a lot of my online peers went to that I was always curious about but never was committed enough to the job to make an effort/investment in going. One thing that I thought about was your observation on the demos of people who were there. Based on my experience the types of people you described (older couples, older single men, and to a lesser degree groups of men) all made sense to me based on my experience as a cam model. Couples and single men above like 25 were always the ones who formed a more genuine emotional connection to me, treated me the best, and so I can see them being the ones most invested in going to an in-person event to see the models they connect with online. I could also see groups of men rally around particular performers and finding community that way or just being fans of adult content. And/or they could be kinkster groups. The younger single men though, they always treated me as the most disposable, and just something to entertain them for a short time. Also the worst tippers ever, they don't actually want to support us they just want to get as much as possible with spending as little as possible. Literally had guys tip me pennies many times and tell me I should be so grateful for it. Those guys, I couldn't see shelling out money to go to an event like this except in some delusional way, like they think they'll pick up a bunch of models.
came here to say exactly this. i second everything, especially on the demographics. it's really sweet to assume it's an anxiety thing and guys trying to not be creepy, but that's exactly what they were doing-- being creepy. the young guys are the broke fuques who think THEY are doing YOU a favor by them paying any attention to you. the more conventionally attractive they are, the more aggressive that attitude seems to be, in my experience. they can't make connections with the models because they dont see them as people. which is why they rapid fired photos. theyre trying to get as much "content" for the least amount of emotional or financial investment as possible.
Older adults tend to have more spending money to afford ventures into things they like. Younger men who have the money that are spending it here are probably some of the more spoiled or 'entitled' ones, and are probably doing it more for "shits and giggles" type of entertainment than appreciating the people for being there
As a former stripper I can say that your experience rang true to me working in clubs. Older men and couples were always more generous and respectful, I’ve only worked at one club that allowed for under 21 to enter and let me just say groups with 18 year olds were the worst customers.
Back when I was doing it I felt kinda silly calling myself a “model” so I just went with “adult performer” lol. It’s too prestigious of a title to describe filming myself on an iPhone in a 1 bedroom apartment at 3am.
Poppy Luv responded to my comment and imparted very relevant information: "Hey so I'm a Webcam model, and streaming with music is fine but having videos or recordings of your streams with music is not. On my site your content won't even be accepted if it has any music in it that is not from there music selection." - Poppy Luv I'd almost guess that webcam models would have to be more worried about copyright. music labels already don't want streamers using their music for backing tracks to gameplay or PC builds, I can't imagine they'd be gung-ho for webcam models to use their music either.
Hey so I'm a Webcam model, and streaming with music is fine but having videos or recordings of your streams with music is not. On my site your content won't even be accepted if it has any music in it that is not from there music selection.
That seems to be pretty similar to what I've seen with gaming twitch streamers - the stream itself is fine (and they don't get penalized for it) but the VOD is muted for sections with copyrighted music and they replace it for any highlight videos.
I think as an expo, the decrim/legalize/destigmatize panel was so important and smart to include. It's hugely important to the industry, and allows people hurt by decisions like SESTA and FOSTA, etc that are influenced by forces outside of this industry they majorly effect. Keeping people safe is paramount in the world, so making it a point at this event gets major points from me. But maybe I'm too easy lol
Find why Amsterdam regrets legalizing brothels a decade ago as to why any legislation will never happen; it rebranded anyone possibly committing tra--king offences as 'businessmen'.
i've also always found it really sweet that yeah a lot of the enthusiasts of certain models/kink/adult entertainment are just nice older couples who are living their best lives together and embracing what they're into 🥰 good for them, we love to see it!
It was not that this one was porn, it was your enthusiasm for the like sociology of conventions and events. I do not like conventions because I cannot stand being jostled and touched for hours at a time, but I do like hearing your reflections on the different convention cultures.
Also lord I didn't... complete my own thought. Somewhere at the start of this should be "I realized with this video that I really enjoy your convention reviews."
Have you seen that video of young male fans of Livvy Dune go to one of her Gymnast meets? The guys didn't tone down their "fannish reactions" at all, and that many people acting hyper-enthusiastic obsessed came off as intimidating/creepy due to societal connotations (group of men are statistically more dangerous than a group of women). So I think the guys who try to act cool just know better social cues to keep people comfortable, much more than the younger generation.
But it's an expo. So acting formally is to be expected lol - it just seems so weird for grown adult men to be fangurling to the woman they masturbate to. It isn't even some kind of "muh society" thing literally just act behaved in a public forum lol
I'm a cam girl/model and yes we have to be worried about copyright if we re-upload a stream as a vid also imo the umbrella term for people in the industry is either adult content creator or nsfw content creator because that includes as many people as possible like artists, voice actors, cam models, subscription site models, etc but if you're just talking about the people who get in front of a cam (pics/vids or streaming) they'd be models or nsfw models Edit: also the reason for older folks esp older men is they're the ones with the money to give to models
Amanda, the men don't want to seem that interested because they don't want to come off as creepy. No matter how much of a fan you are, being thought of as a creepy guy is devastating to self esteem.
Yeah this is one of the differences between the male experience and the female experience. A female being overly excited and freaking out and passionate/obsessed with a person is considered “fangirling” (girl is literally in the word) a male being overly excited and freaking out and obsessed with a person, especially a woman is considered creepy (especially if the male is unattractive). Yes there are rational reasons underpinning this, men tend to be stronger, more capable of violence, more likely to pursue stalkerish behavior, etc.. But most men learn from their own experience and watching people/women react to men who do act that way, to avoid coming off like that at all costs. Especially in today’s world we’re constantly told to avoid making women feel uncomfortable at all costs.
I've heard of AVN and similar expos and I've always been like "okay but what happens at these things" this was really neat to watch! Very pleased to hear that decrim orgs were involved :)
Amanda I literally would never attend ANY of these events being the introverted hermit that I am but I get SO EXCITED when you upload and talk about them I don't even know why but it is such engaging content :D
I super recommend counseling. You don’t have to wait until there’s actual problems to go to counseling. Preventative care is always better. If you are able to work out communication issues early on, you’ll be able to handle tougher stuff later on like serious life changes, sickness, family issues, jobs issues, grief etc.
Photo snipers are a thing that you see a lot at cosplay conventions - and a thing that a lot of cosplayers & conventions try to discourage because it's rude, especially if you're taking photos of a cosplayer (or, in this case, adult entertainer) while they're taking a break/eating/otherwise unprepared. I'm sure it comes from a place of being too shy or socially anxious to ask for a photo, but it's really annoying to be on the other end of.
I never expected you to do a vid on this event (or to ever see a vid criticizing this event in general). And I’m actually super intrigued 😂live for the ✨VARIETY ✨
@@Pinkcatninja feel free to recommend any companies, I have spare cash rn and I’ve always wanted to find a good alternative to bad dragon because I’ve heard nothing but horrible things about them
So much blushing! Just the voyeur realization was phenomenal The heritage museum is a lot of fun! We didn’t have enough time, they show the good and the bad and it’s so educational. Definitely recommend
I love it… totally don’t feel as bad for missing it this year. I’m a financial dominatrix & fet content creator full time for the last few years. I wanted to go but AVN kinda screwed a bunch of us over last year when they suddenly shut down their site(which made up a lot of our incomes). Of course we all found other places but this was after assuring us they weren’t closing so I’m still a bit salty. I love your videos, and would totally be down to talk on you podcast. I’ve never done anything like it, but it honestly sounds fun. Ps: this isn’t my account name/picture I just use it for premium 😅
You are so inspiring to me the way you face your social anxiety all the time and put yourself out there in these videos. I am fighting against agoraphobia and your videos give me confidence because i love how well you carry yourself even feeling anxious and being so unapologetically yourself. 💗💗💗
I think a lot of what you mentioned with the men does come down to anxiety and a fear of being seen as creepy or weird. Even at regular cons, I can get super nervous if there's too many people at a booth and it suddenly feels like I'm in people's way, or I'm taking up too much of an artist's time, or whatever. All of that can only be compounded when it's sex work, because even if they personally have a positive outlook on sex work and sex workers, being publicly known by an adult content creator as a fan removes that anonymity and suddenly they know you and can make assumptions about you. It's a terror of being known, and it's more intense when you're dealing with a subject like the adult entertainment industry since we don't talk about it.
I'm a software engineer for a pretty big event company that caters to C-suite executives. We put a tremendous amount of effort into attendee communication. Even though our attendees are extremely knowledgeable and professional they still need to have things explained to them like they were six year olds. I really enjoy hearing your takes on big multi-day events.
I think the guys are trying to downplay how excited they are just so they seem less intimidating. God knows I would wig out if a guy started yelling about how much he liked whatever I was doing. But I wouldn’t blame them, it’s not their fault society has kinda messed with my head and now I am pretty cautious around men I don’t know
I like that you call them models. That's such a professional respectful term and that is really what they're doing. I'm surprised how chill and friendly this event seems
Videos sold privately don’t get copyright claimed as quickly because the system has to actually scan the video to catch it. Idk about other types of video sales though
Men at Comic Cons do that photo thing a ton too. I am always happy to take pictures but when somebody takes a pic of me on the sly it's infuriating because cosplay is not consent. I have been with people who don't want pics and men specifically cannot understand why it's not ok to snap a random photo
I've been to various cons as a fan. I always ask the model/cosplayer "Can I take your picture?" I thank them whether they say yes or no. It's about respect.
What? I understand if you are just walking around is cosplay, but these models are at a booth where people are filming and taking pictures without asking all the time. Both men and women.
You're in a public space at an event that has camera's everywhere.... I have been on both ends of the photo. I have taken "random" photos of people in cosplay but either there are too many people in line for the photo and I don't want to wait or it's a very cool cosplay but I have no idea who it is or even where it's from. So I snap a pic and carry on my day. I have cosplayed and I also have had "random" photos and I don't care. These events have 100s if not 1000s of people recording video for their own content. What is one random photo going to do? Nothing.
@@AnimeProduction101 it's one thing to be in the background of someone's vlog or selfie because that's obviously understandable in a public space where ppl document stuff on phones and cameras, but it's another to have someone creepshot you specifically from afar. especially at a comic con type setting where there are children cosplaying/attending, it's straight up creepy as hell to snap a pic of a kid without their consent. but even if you're not a child, people who don't want a pic DO NOT want a pic of them to on some stranger's device so to snipe a pic of ppl without consent is weird and gross as hell
6:48 Generally adult sites don't take down videos for music copyright violations. Most have a policy against copyrighted music, but they don't have systems to enforce it.
as a supporter of the x industry I actually got to attend the expo/awards and always with a friend who was guest speaking. The "models" always kept it professional, the fans are different. I was just a guest but the amount of ppl that touched and took photos (some asked some didnt) of me was crazy so u can't even imagine how the real stars felt. Definetly an experience (MGK was performing). I think the organization and communication to event goers has gone down over the years. I think the change from Hard Rock really messed them up.
If that lady was wearing a body stocking then yelled at you, I have a feeling she may be a dom and that was part of her schtick 😂😂😂 it probably wasn’t you though, I’m sure many people were looking at her
I kind of want to see a video where you sit down with a model and interview them about the business side of their work - honestly, the randoms asides about this sort of thing is one of my favourite things about your videos
Yes, livestreamers get copyright claims. I livestreamed my wedding, and a bunch of the audio during dinner and speaches got automatically muted because of the background music the dj was playing :(
I heard a few similar stories of celebrations in the high of the lockdown; seriously record labels they should break down a better system than this with twitch or yt.
actually sometimes you DO want copyrighted music to be playing in the background of a live stream, which prevents people who record your stream from pirating and putting the video up on other sites. Because people will record your chaturbate shows and put them up on sites where they charge admission to watch "all the videos" but really they're stealing.
I think the term "adult performer" is both accurate and specific. Adult content creator seems so broad that it could mean someone who creates adult comics or kink educational videos or these performers or any of a hundred other things.
I didn’t even know what AVN stood for. I watch adult content occasionally (no shame in that, people, enjoy what you enjoy-within reason-and be free!) but wouldn’t know any of these stars by name or even by sight… And yet this seems interesting from that anthropological/sociological perspective. Truly THE place to people-watch (without judging), and hell, I know at least the models don’t mind being watched, lol! And hey! Shoutout to adult entertainers and sex workers, you rock! I know the state of some of these sites y’all use can be uncertain at times, the industry can be uncertain at times, you put up with a lot. So just… you guys are really cool, honestly.
damn… i wanna go to a day of this!! seems like a super fun and unique experience. im a queer woman, in a straight relationship, and advocate for decriminalization/etc of sex work 100%!! have written many papers on the subject. thanks for choosing to do a review of this event! great video 😇🩷💛🩵🤘🏽
i love being fem and forgetting the entire concept of shame when i meet someone i'm a huge fan of. i met one of my fave kpop groups and cried in front of my bias because i was so happy and couldnt believe i was talking to him. i told my dad bc i was humilated and embarrassed and he said "i cant speak for every man but if girls were that excited to be around me when i was in my 20's i wouldve felt awesome, he could tell you love him and i'm sure he was just flattered" and it made me feel so much better about my silly lil fangirl ways!
I love how respectful you are about this topic. I am also fascinated about the business, and if you ever do get an answer on copyright claims for music and live streams, please update us!
speaking as someone who organizes events in general. As long as you do all your prep correctly and you have documentation for your crew like you should, it doesnt matter how little crew you have youll get your questions answered
Hi! :D I am a cam model so I can answer some of your questions :) 1) Most camming sites don't care while your streaming what music you play. I have no idea how they get around the copyright. 2) Models are camgirls/cam models - NSFW live streamers. The term model just sounds...better...than calling us 'girls'. Adult content creators are those who primarily make videos, or do subscription sites. Realistically, a lot of us dabble in both areas. 3) This was my first AVN I attended but I have a feeling that a lot of the men that go to the event are the same men who watch cam models and never say a word. Shy boys.
I understand that "trying to act cool" when meeting someone you are a fan of as trying to not overwhelm the person with your... faness... I'm shy and wouldn't know what to do if someone came to me all excited so I also would try to have a chill interaction when approaching someone.
I love escape rooms! I had an escape room birthday party. The room was themed "Conspiracy" (right around the time the Conspiracy palette came out) and I made the invitations out to look like a classified X-Files folder, I made tin foil party hats, my cake had knives and axes and cherry pie goo to look like blood and the candles were "28?".
22:10 I think one of the reasons men are more "chill" about being a fan is we don't want to come off as creepy or aggressive. I 100% would try to come off as relaxed for this reason. I'm not that large or scary looking, but I still want to come off as chill or low energy to keep it a positive interaction.
I didn’t know what AVN was, but I ofc clicked on this anyway, because I know it must be a bit wild. Anything Amanda is doing so I don’t have to, there’s some wacky stuff going on 😂
I went to AVN 2020 right before COVID lol that trip had been my last trip before the pandemic, it was interesting but I only went cuz my friend who was invited as. model took me! so glad I got to experience even one day of it, and got to meet many others that week. the Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame was the coolest thing I experienced tho
As a cam model and adult content creator, I feel the AVN expo could have been a lot better organized this year.. and would have definitely been better if it was hosted at its old spot: the hard Rock hotel.. I think the hard rock was all around a more suitable place to host the avns. I was happy I still attended but also feel that my vip tickets could have given me more benefits for paying "vip." I could relate to much of what you said in this video and I'd love to be on your podcast to discuss further details about my avn experience as a performer that wasn't directly at a booth and just attended. I think I'd have alot of helpful insight to share if you ever wanted ☺️ this was a fantastic video!
I am fascinated and delighted you went to this! As someone who used to be involved in the burlesque community, I'm curious if it was mentioned at any point? I definitely think I'd enjoy attending with a group a friends at least once. I would love to better understand the justification for $600. Are models seeing a cut of that money? If so, I get it. In the NYC burlesque scene, I feel like ticket prices and performer rates aren't high enough for what you're getting. Typically the vendors/exhibitors are also paying to be at conventions though, so how much are they paying for a booth, if VIPs just get... hats?
I went to E3 one year and got food poisoning from a Togo's after the first day and day 2 was me just feeling the worst I have ever felt while I was slogging around the Expo, so I know your pain.
I do watch some but I prefer pictures and spicy novels. I struggle a bit hearing some things out loud without cringing or getting grossed out, even with things I love. It can be a mood killer.
I'm not surprised about the older audience demographic after hearing the price of the tickets. A 19 year old is less likely on average to have the funds. I feel like it's reasonable for couples who've saved up some money over time to plan a trip to see their favourite adult film stars together much like any other fan convention
I feel like when people talk about an event after the fact it gives them a chance to honestly reflect on their feelings and experience instead of being caught up in the moment.
The couples thing surprises me too. I would also have expected a majority of fan attendees to be younger dudes in their early-to-mid 20s. But then I think how many of them could afford to pay to fly out and get the full AVN experience? I know I couldn't have 😅 So I guess couples and older men makes sense haha
Lot of guys tend to act cool and collective even if we are superfans to not look creepy with the ladies we are fans. I am a big tall dude and I know that can be a bit intimidating for some ladies. So when I am at event I tending to be respectful of the ladies space and time, with a big and often genuine smile. This typically help start up conversation, where I gotten some my best tips on prop and armor building for cosplay.
I went to the AVN’s years ago when it was at the Hard Rock. At that time they had also separated the event to a different week than CES (at one point AVN and CES shared the same hotel and week but they broke them apart due to inflating hotel prices and general chaos between the two events. Anyhow it was great people watching and I got to see quite a few “famous” stars including Sunny Lane who ran for governor in California at one time. I would put it as a once in a lifetime thing especially for the people watching due to the cost. I think the competing expo Exxxotica has more locations and cheaper passes.
I have done two Sexpo (Brisbane, Australia) expos now - this is our Aussie equivalent of AVN and the other 'adult' expos - and yes as someone who is a "booth worker" (Yoni Pleasure Palace) ... I am always curious as to the mix of people who come to the event. Also, each day has a different mix .. even different times.
I think a lot of the dudes you meet just generally don’t want to be seen as creepy. I think they genuinely just want to be chill about it and not bother you but it comes across as being a little stand-offish. At least that would be my reasoning in that situation
For me when I meet a celebrity or an internet personality as a male I don't wanna freak them out becasue at the end of the day they are another person so I try to be chill when I meet them that's probably why they acted like that.
This makes me want to attend. I’d have to look into if anyone I’d be interesting in meeting and I totally get that fear of being considered weird or freaky while looking at people you’re a fan of.
I get vendor/artist tables at some events in the midwest (nothing quite like AVN though) and I can fully sympathize with never being given any info and trying to figure it out on the fly. I find that it's more common for larger events to fail with their communication unfortunately. Also, my wife tends to cosplay or dress up when we do events and I see a lot of men do that whole 'walk by snapping pictures or videos while trying to act casual' thing. It's always very obvious lol though she does have a fair amount of people walking up to talk to her as well. From my experience I've noticed that it's common for older men to make straight forward comments on her appearance but the occasional younger man is more likely to awkwardly hang around her and flirt. Women in their 30s or older tend to be very straight forward and won't hesitate to talk to her or compliment her. Younger women and teenager girls tend to throw out a 'you're so pretty' then run away lol
Lmao your story with Megan reminded me of one year I went to Sexpo (think Aussie AVN) not long after I was in the Vagina Monologues.

Swell I just wanted to say that as a professional event planner I love these videos. You provide lots of helpful critiques that I can keep in mind while planning my own events!
dream job!
That’s what I was thinking about, if I ever am in the position to plan an event, or if I was an event planner, these videos are great to watch for research and learn what not to do and what to keep in mind. Very helpful and informative!
Lol. Nightmare job to me. That’s why I love the videos. I can enjoy the event without having to be around 😱 people 😱
As a former event planner, there are moments I wish I could come in and to supplementary commentary on Swell’s event coverage.
This is an old comment but you seem like an amazing person ❤️ it’s really nice to see people think conscientiously

This is very important. As an old ex whore I'm all for decriminalisation and am the annoying b*tch who is always telling everyone.
@@mohmohthesmog7179 *that’s NOT what decriminalization is when discussing sex work laws!!!!* under full decriminalization, consensual adult sex work is *fully legal* for everyone involved. no fine, no mandatory “treatment,” no mark on any background check.
also, that’s not what a misdemeanor is. you can be sentenced to years in prison for a misdemeanor. selling/ buying sex is actually already a misdemeanor in nearly every US state, and in almost every state, a prostitution/ solicitation conviction can result in a months-to-years long prison sentence.

i find it so weird cuz like... dont you LIKE them? why would u want to creep them out? wouldnt you want to make them feel comfortable instead? so odd to me
that’s what i was thinking, i always try to be more lowkey when meeting someone i’m a fan of to make sure i can’t be misconstrued as obsessive or stalker-y or make the person uncomfortable. it’s weird because you can’t tell how you come off to the other person and i think going into meeting someone by letting them know you know a lot about them when they know nothing about you is inherently kinda awkward

I hope ppl realize while you are there to provide a service and a fantasy. You are still a human being and deserve respect and basic human decency
Older adults tend to have more spending money to afford ventures into things they like. Younger men who have the money that are spending it here are probably some of the more spoiled or 'entitled' ones, and are probably doing it more for "shits and giggles" type of entertainment than appreciating the people for being there
Younger men don't have the disposable income that older men will have. A man doesn't hit his financial peak until his 40s normally.
As a former stripper I can say that your experience rang true to me working in clubs. Older men and couples were always more generous and respectful, I’ve only worked at one club that allowed for under 21 to enter and let me just say groups with 18 year olds were the worst customers.
Watching you re-live gay panic moments in this retelling is honestly my favorite thing.
Back when I was doing it I felt kinda silly calling myself a “model” so I just went with “adult performer” lol. It’s too prestigious of a title to describe filming myself on an iPhone in a 1 bedroom apartment at 3am.
Poppy Luv responded to my comment and imparted very relevant information:
"Hey so I'm a Webcam model, and streaming with music is fine but having videos or recordings of your streams with music is not. On my site your content won't even be accepted if it has any music in it that is not from there music selection." - Poppy Luv
I'd almost guess that webcam models would have to be more worried about copyright. music labels already don't want streamers using their music for backing tracks to gameplay or PC builds, I can't imagine they'd be gung-ho for webcam models to use their music either.
Hey so I'm a Webcam model, and streaming with music is fine but having videos or recordings of your streams with music is not. On my site your content won't even be accepted if it has any music in it that is not from there music selection.
@Poppy Luv thanks for the information! that's very cool to learn~
That seems to be pretty similar to what I've seen with gaming twitch streamers - the stream itself is fine (and they don't get penalized for it) but the VOD is muted for sections with copyrighted music and they replace it for any highlight videos.
Different platforms have different rules as well! It’s a mixed bag.
this is Bs and not true for all sites or models

I think as an expo, the decrim/legalize/destigmatize panel was so important and smart to include. It's hugely important to the industry, and allows people hurt by decisions like SESTA and FOSTA, etc that are influenced by forces outside of this industry they majorly effect. Keeping people safe is paramount in the world, so making it a point at this event gets major points from me. But maybe I'm too easy lol
Find why Amsterdam regrets legalizing brothels a decade ago as to why any legislation will never happen; it rebranded anyone possibly committing tra--king offences as 'businessmen'.

You dont need to act all fangirl, just politely say hey i really like your content
The guys who act cool seem to be the socially conscious ones. Like props to you for being aware there are creeps and not wanting to be one 👍
I don’t why they reacted to Livvy Dunne that way, she is so mid
I'm a cam girl/model and yes we have to be worried about copyright if we re-upload a stream as a vid also imo the umbrella term for people in the industry is either adult content creator or nsfw content creator because that includes as many people as possible like artists, voice actors, cam models, subscription site models, etc but if you're just talking about the people who get in front of a cam (pics/vids or streaming) they'd be models or nsfw models
Edit: also the reason for older folks esp older men is they're the ones with the money to give to models
I hear most content creators, voice actors, models, etc., refer to themselves as "NSFW content creators," but that is mostly on twitter.

@@designereyebags I mean, attending a con for Adult Content doesn’t necessarily have to mean your into the models or creepy.

I think the guys are trying to downplay how excited they are just so they seem less intimidating. God knows I would wig out if a guy started yelling about how much he liked whatever I was doing. But I wouldn’t blame them, it’s not their fault society has kinda messed with my head and now I am pretty cautious around men I don’t know
"Throwing up in front of porn stars I will not tolerate from myself" someone please do a beautiful needle point of this.
Nothing.
@@AnimeProduction101 it's one thing to be in the background of someone's vlog or selfie because that's obviously understandable in a public space where ppl document stuff on phones and cameras, but it's another to have someone creepshot you specifically from afar. especially at a comic con type setting where there are children cosplaying/attending, it's straight up creepy as hell to snap a pic of a kid without their consent. but even if you're not a child, people who don't want a pic DO NOT want a pic of them to on some stranger's device so to snipe a pic of ppl without consent is weird and gross as hell

as a supporter of the x industry I actually got to attend the expo/awards and always with a friend who was guest speaking.

I think she means specifically adult content streamers
Gosh that sucks sorry to hear mate
I don't think MFC or Chaturbate operate under the same restrictions, but yeah youtube can be brutal with that.
actually sometimes you DO want copyrighted music to be playing in the background of a live stream, which prevents people who record your stream from pirating and putting the video up on other sites.
I watch adult content occasionally (no shame in that, people, enjoy what you enjoy-within reason-and be free!) but wouldn’t know any of these stars by name or even by sight…
And yet this seems interesting from that anthropological/sociological perspective.

Hi! :D I am a cam model so I can answer some of your questions :)
1) Most camming sites don't care while your streaming what music you play.
Shy boys.
thank you for spreading the word about the geeky & kinky pins i love them so much especially the jason one
I get a unreasonable about of happiness hearing you describe events to us.
100% guys trying to not be annoying or creepy so we try to make it quick and “nonchalant”.
I'm so glad you acknowledge and welcome your fans and how that goes. It's really lovely.
I do watch some but I prefer pictures and spicy novels. I struggle a bit hearing some things out loud without cringing or getting grossed out, even with things I love. It can be a mood killer.
Lol maybe the 19-25 year old men didn't show up because tickets were too expensive for them 😂 Great video btw!
I'm not surprised about the older audience demographic after hearing the price of the tickets. A 19 year old is less likely on average to have the funds. I feel like it's reasonable for couples who've saved up some money over time to plan a trip to see their favourite adult film stars together much like any other fan convention
You are blushing this entire video and it's so funny. This is exactly how I'd feel talking about this too lol
I feel like when people talk about an event after the fact it gives them a chance to honestly reflect on their feelings and experience instead of being caught up in the moment.
"I...saw they did not have food and I left" is such a mood.
I kid you not, I got TWO mid-rolls ads for Chik Fil A while watching this😂😂
The couples thing surprises me too. I would also have expected a majority of fan attendees to be younger dudes in their early-to-mid 20s. But then I think how many of them could afford to pay to fly out and get the full AVN experience? I know I couldn't have 😅
So I guess couples and older men makes sense haha
I think the competing expo Exxxotica has more locations and cheaper passes.
idk why but this video had so many one liners that had me absolutely dying, thanks for your service amanda lol
i plan to never go to either of your recently reviewed events- but i’ve been eating these reviews upppp, you always make the reviews so interesting
I have no idea why this video was recommended to me but I'm glad it was I had no idea this expo existed lol I'm glad it does.
You're one of us
Thank you! As a former sex worker (Australia) - decimalised is the ultimate way to go. NOT legalised. And yes, destigmatise too.
You should totally interview a webcammer because I also have questions 📝📝
As a internet hoe I'd love to her do this
I have done two Sexpo (Brisbane, Australia) expos now - this is our Aussie equivalent of AVN and the other 'adult' expos - and yes as someone who is a "booth worker" (Yoni Pleasure Palace) ...
I actually saw some performers streaming at this event. Towards the end I think men act like that bc they don't want to be called a simp.
This makes me want to attend. I’d have to look into if anyone I’d be interesting in meeting and I totally get that fear of being considered weird or freaky while looking at people you’re a fan of.
Not gonna lie, the "comment down bellow if you watch porn!" made me laugh a lot. Yes Amanda, i do watch porn!
You get me so invested in all these expos and things you go to even though I have no actual interest in them.
I keep hearing AVN as "Avian," and have decided that this con would probably be improved with more birds.
I'm in trackpants and a t-shirt (having just come straight from uni) and a porn star in the tiniest bikini jumped up to ME and went "omg I loved you in the Vagina Monologues!!!"
The extra funny thing was that I played the lesbian dominatrix at TVM and ended up striking up a friendship with an actual domme I met at Sexpo lol
I love the way you know you're hot, you acknowledge that you're hot, and you still come across as humble! Your attitude towards yourself is awesome
Hubby and I were discussing fan interactions you mentioned in the vid, and he said," Guys are very "hi/bye" when doing fan interactions because they don't want to appear 'creepy'."
Food for thought :)
Great coverage for the event as always. however bummed about the VIP communication debacle. was nothing listed online that you could verify when you purchased the ticket?
the Megan story, the discussion of geeking out when you meet some who's content you watch, I feel like there is an untold story of encountering a model you appreciate enough to geek out on
Had to pause the video when you said $600!! That's shockingly expensive
She had a good time and that is very clear. Good for you Amanda.
