lots of videos explaining why. _but here's my tl;dr:_ a few irritating gameplay issues/bugs, balancing problems, not casual friendly (hard to learn and impossible to master), maybe lack of marketing, lack of other game modes, it was competing with other amazing game titles at the time, too many other fighting games during that era also.
Man imagine, with a lot of Wii U titles going into the Switch, imagine Bandai Namco goes big balls and make a port of TTT2 into the Switch from the Wii U framework.
Those are Nintendo titles, because they know their cuck cult members will buy anything for full price and they can make less games for the new hardware....This was a 3rd party game and it failed on all 3 platforms not just the Wii U.
@@LeonikkiJohni Fatal Frame and The Wonderful 101 are the dream. Being released on basically everything even though Nintendo partially owns the franchises. TTT2 should be in a better spot and come to more platforms even if the Nintendo content can't make it, but a lot of fighting game developers seem unwilling to allow their old games to compete with their new games on the market. In some cases, I get it. Rights are hard if there are third party elements and they might not have the source code for games prior to 2010 (huge issue for Ninja Gaiden). Otherwise, they only want eyeballs on the game with paid DLC.
I remember when I saw Kazuya in a Link costume I was speechless to see it in my eyes and it was funny as well. Now I know why they brought him in for Smash Ultimate for a reason. Its cool that they wanted to promote their game on a Wii U console by making him wear the Link outfit.

13:00 no, you're thinking of Sebastian. Dr. Bosconovitch (son of Bosconian? xP) is the scientist guy who's always appearing in the backstory. he appeared in Tekken 3 on the PS1, he was the old dude who could barely stand.

Fun fact, Bandai Namco were planning Tekken U for Wii U before doing Tekken Tag 2 port, one of the stages they had tested was Pac-Land stage, the very same Pac-Land stage that ended up in Smash
Some fun facts about the Philippines stage in Stage 5. - on the billboards at 15:35 are the logos for Timezone and Quantum, two leading arcade chains in the country. Timezone is actually an Australian arcade chain that’s branches off to the rest of Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, where it is probably at its largest, more so than its native home down under. And both these arcades just so happen to have the latest Tekken releases on a near constant basis, with Timezone even hosting official worldwide Tekken tournaments in the mid to late 2000’s. - The actual location is never specified, but given the nearby body of water, it’s most likely Manila Bay. - The existence of the stage itself is a nod to Tekken’s extreme popularity in the Philippines, and this would then extend to the creation of the Filipina character Josie Rizal for Tekken 7.
I'm not joking when I say this but I, since the first time I ever played it, have had this game as the greatest fighting game I've ever played, seen, imagined, spoke about, etc. This game is INSAAANNNEEELY GOOD.
Random TTT2 fact: The rage mode that your partner goes into if your current character has low health is called the "Netsu System", and there's actually a factor where it activates sooner or later depending on your team. Kazuya... doesn't like anyone, so it always activates later for him. At least he's not as bad as Ogre, where EVERYONE hates him (even characters who never even heard of him).
This was also in Tag Tournament 1, and worked fairly similarly. And if anyone is thinking this mechanic sounds kinda like Tekken 6 and 7's Rage... Well, you're right. IIRC "netsu" translates to "rage", so this is at least a sister mechanic and could even be considered the same system but implemented somewhat differently.
Similar to old Kof ganes where the follow up character liked the partner that was defeated it would gain a bar, neutral, they gained nothing, of they hated each other they lose a bar
Men for me this Tekken is sad; In 2017 my uncle died and he loves Tekken, the only easy game for him to play with me. @@Owl_Coup_Productions Literally Smash Bros Brawl. That's like complaining that Mario Kart 8 is horrible because it's a bad Formula 1 game with tons of unrealistic mechanics. Well sure but it's obviously not trying to be a sim, and the same logic applies here. Brawl had so much fun single player content, it doesn't get old to me to this day. It's for this reason that it's still my favorite smash game.
Tag 2 was my first Tekken game, so it brings back good memories. I do think a Tag 3 could be cool if they try to bring in as many characters as possible from Tag 2 and Tekken 7, excluding the guest characters.
"WiiU pro controller is a piece of shit" an 80 hour battery life, buttons that don't break, and only a $50 price tag at the time. Yeah, Max I can't agree with you on this one.
It's alright, but it's main problem is the placement of the right analog stick. Who in their right mind thought that putting it above the face buttons was a good idea?
@@RednekGamurz Why do you think it's a bad idea? Playstation controllers have had both the sticks low since the dawn of time, why can't both sticks be high, instead of mixed like the Xbox/gamecube setup? Having put a fuckton of hours into all three setups, there's functionally no difference. Hell, Nintendo's button labeling being different than Xbox is *way* harder to deal with when you're switching back and forth.
@@RepublicOfUs It's the mixed button labeling too. tekken 7 was the first tekken game i actually bought and got into, a friend of mine got me into it. he then showed me tag 2 and god damn it is so much fun, there is so much cool shit possible in this game and a ton of content.
*Yeah, I don't know why this didn't sell yell, in my opinion, this is the BEST Tekken Game.*
it is THATS WHY ITS ITS OWN GAME
lots of videos explaining why.
It’s sad this game didn’t sell that well, it’s one of the better Tekken games they’ve made tbh. Top 5 for sure
@@lutherheggs451 Well, one can dream I guess, I mean Fatal Frame made it but yeah. It do be like that eh?
Out of all the tekken games, I think Tag 2 combos are the most fun to do
Shoulda checked out the tutorial. We got "Ryu", "Ken" and "Akuma"
I swear people have terrible taste this is one of the best tekken games ever an entire love letter to the whole franchise
The only thing that's missing from the Tag opening cinematic was the crowd going "Holy Shit! Holy Shit! Holy Shit!" You know I'm right.
*literal demon rises from the ground*
the crowd : "YEEAAAAAAHHH!"
I'm positive there were some people who lost their shit when they first saw Kunimitsu in that opening.
Oh, I've met his grandson alright. Many times already in fact.
Kazuya and his grandpa is the most wholesome team-up in the Tekken series.
... Just keep an eye on Kazuya.
I LOVED Tekken Tag 2. The only thing that never sat right with me was if one character dies you lose the round. That rule was always the one and only thing that I disliked about this game.
I remember disliking it too at first but eventually I kinda liked the strategic layer it added
Tag 2 holds a special place in my heart!
I will always stand by that Tag 2 is the absolute best Tekken game that has and will ever exist.
I'm always surprised when really old games still have an online scene.
I love this game.
The amount of costumes is so large and fun ^_^
Reminds me of the costumes from KOF Maximum Impact 2
Some are cool, some are hilarious and some are fantastic!
I remember you were able to change stage tracks with your own music, at least on the PS3/360 versions. I completely forgot what music sounded like at 15:28 because I had swapped it with a track from Anarchy Reigns.
The Theory Hazit track by chance?
@@jeremiahfarquhar Right on the money. It was "Here We Go" to be exact.
Lol me too, ALL stages i have other songs even the character select screen have another Song on my game
@@Drawica that’s what’s up!!! That’s actually how I first heard of that game cause I heard Theory (& other Scribbling Idiots members) got on the soundtrack
One of the few games I’ve never got for the WiiU. (And for the record, I still own my WiiU! I have too many Virtual Console games in it to abandon it! Also the HD Zelda games and
Xenoblade X!)
I honestly hope they bring at least Tag 2 to the Switch!!
The music was so funky in this game. Love it!
13:00 no, you're thinking of Sebastian.
Dr. Bosconovitch (son of Bosconian? xP) is the scientist guy who's always appearing in the backstory. he appeared in Tekken 3 on the PS1, he was the old dude who could barely stand.
Kazuya clearly wants to be here.
Get ready for the next battle battle battle
Gave me tekken 6 nostalgia
attle attle attle attle attle attle
Tekken Tag 2 might be my fav in the series. I love the bonkers ass stuff in this game. So many characters and dream tag ups.
Bosconovich lookin like he's about to play chess against himself in the park lol
This is probably my all time favorite Tekken game. I loved all the characters that were in it.
with kazuya being in smash and nintendo's good relationship with namco i'm crossing fingers that we get a switch port of this game i loved playing it on my wii u i literally got the wii u just to play this.it's tons of fun
Not a single mention about how EPIC that Jun~Unknown transition is ?!
REALLY ?!
Max: "that's pre-Josie."
Me: Nah max we not gettin' another nyotengu situation. They ain't team ninja.
Fun fact, Bandai Namco were planning Tekken U for Wii U before doing Tekken Tag 2 port, one of the stages they had tested was Pac-Land stage, the very same Pac-Land stage that ended up in Smash
Seeing pole dancers dance to a club ran by Snoop Dogg in a Wii U era Nintendo game is so surreal.
Best character select screen music ever in a Tekken game. Fight me! 4:30
It's the best character creation theme yes but this games character select is still like top 10
Tekken tag 2 tournament is one of my favorites
Lmao I forgot the Snoop Dogg stage was a thing
Snoop Lion*
"Call me Zelda one more time"
Tekken Tag 2 is by far my favorite Tekken. It helps that the PS3 version let's you put your own music on the stages.
I'm not joking when I say this but I, since the first time I ever played it, have had this game as the greatest fighting game I've ever played, seen, imagined, spoke about, etc. This game is INSAAANNNEEELY GOOD.
As a Tekken fan yes I loved Tag 2 also loved using Jun solo against Tag duos online some of the most fun I've had playing any Tekken tbh
15:25 This is the first time I've seen Linkazuya and Toadpachi Mishima fighting in the Philippines.
Men for me this Tekken is sad; In 2017 my uncle died and he loves Tekken, the only easy game for him to play with me. Before he go to the hospital, I told him than I ask a friend that it was gonna borrow me this Tekken, because we only have the WiiU at the moment. It makes me sad that we could play this.
To this day, this is my favorite tekken game.
Wait, there's a snoop dogg stage with a theme sung by him????
Yeah, if you didn't know this than you missed out on even his music video he did alongside the game.
@@leon4000 You bet I missed it! Lmao
I'm gonna check it out right now!
Jinpachi as Toad is so nice to watch
If they ever do Tekken Tag Tournament 3 I will cry.
I don't know what people were talking about this game. I thought this game was one of the fun ones I've played.
If the pro scene doesn't like it the games reputation is tarnished no matter how good it actually is.
@@Owl_Coup_Productions Thing is the game is only fun at a casual level.
@@cosmicspider2 but the vast majority of the people who play the game are at a casual level. I think professional players and casual players opinions should be entirely separated when talking about a games quality.
@@Owl_Coup_Productions Not in Tag 2's case. No one bothered with this game outside of the core fanbase, and I don't blame them for it. And iirc, SFxT and SCV sold more than Tag 2.
@@Owl_Coup_Productions Literally Smash Bros Brawl. Game was berated for being a bad competitive game, which is insanely dumb because smash wasn't even meant to be or marketed as a competitive fighting game at the time.
Pretty sure Max meant it wasn't fit for fighting games, okay? Calm down sir, it's just a controller...
@@StephonZeno "I can't agree with you"
wHoA wHoA, jUsT cALm DoWn
@@RepublicOfUs It's the mixed button labeling too. I use the 360 and Xbox One controllers a ton, so the Wii U Pro controller being so similar, while also having a lot of differences fucks me up everytime I try to use it. I also don't like how Playstation controllers have both of their sticks low either.
They really gotta bring back Jun kazama.
She was in this.
@@thebigredwave I know.
The transition into Unknown is still the sickest shit ever!
The track at 13:50 ish is so underrated.
Edit: Called Sunny for anyone wondering.
Me: I don't know anything about Tekken other than it being rather weird and over the top
(Intro plays)
Me: Yeah that's about it-

Me: Ok everything in this picture is exactly what I meant.
