Leave the film on until the seeds germinate. If the soil starts to go dry before this then add water. Terracotta pots dont lose more moisture than plastic pots. YThank you for your appreciation and keep safe.

I will try your method. I have actually planted chives last month. It's been 28 days since I've done it, still nothing has started to grow. They've been under a growing light as well. It might have been too cold inside and I didn't use any plastic to cover it with. I will try your method see if it'll help any. Thank you for clear and cut instructions! this is my go to video for chives! Thank you so much. I noted that often, in the UK and Europe, and some other countries, what we in the US call "potting soil" is referred to as "compost". May I assume that this is the case here, as well? Again, with profound thanks for concise information!
Though only an inexperienced gardener, I'd have to say no - I think the terms are much the same, you've just noticed different practices. I (UK) would say that compost (UK) is - hopefully - very rich stuff that comes from organic matter that has been broken down by micro- and macro-organisms; it's what comes out of your garden compost heap. Potting soil (UK) will usually be a mixture of compost, sand, and possibly other things - these can change moisture retention and drainage. That said, some things can be planted in "pure" compost, but you should be more careful about watching moisture levels. I think that's the idea, anyway.

perfect video, liked it and subscribed. is it ok if i keep the pot outside (my front balcony) through the ferminating process, and in general after its grown? or will it attract stuff...?
This may sound stupid but is there a reason you sprinkled the seeds on top of the compost instead of covering them with more compost? Thanks for the great video!
Hello Thanks for the informative videos. I live in Dhaka and its Spring season here with 27-29° C temperature. Should I start the germination process now? After covering with plastic, should I place them in an area with indirect sun or in a shady area?
I have a bit of a silly question. I am very new to planting and I want to start an indoor garden of herbs and stuff like chives but are when the seeds are germinating and covers with the plastic are you supposed to water them for that week or do I just leave them be
No question is silly - we are all learning from each other every day. The plastic covers help to retain moisture but if if looks like the soil is beginning to dry then give it a spray with a fine mister as and when required. Keep safe.

Thank you very much for sharing this. Can you plant them outside in a pot or are they to be kept inside until well established? I don’t have a greenhouse but do have a conservatory. Thank you.
I keep them warm indoors until established then move them out in the daytime until they gradually get used to colder temperatures, then move them outside permanently.
Question: After they germinate, when you say keep warm and watered...are they indoors or outdoors? This season I planted the seeds indoors, they germinated, and I put they in a sunny south facing window and it gets almost all day of sun. The top of the soil seems to dry up all the time. I spray it wet using a spray bottle. It was growing fine. Then, I noticed fungus gnats on the surface of the soil. I did take it outdoors a couple of times, but I would take it back indoors as they've not been hardened. Not sure if the gnats came from the compost or the peat moss or from being outdoors. Eventually, the plant didn't grow very much and there are more gnats flying around. I know fungus gnats like moist soil. Did I over water? or perhaps the soil was contaminated in the first place. The companion plant I was growing is a snow pea in a container and it too was growing fine (6" tall) and then I noticed the fungus gnats. Fyi, for the 1st time I make my own soil using Peat moss, compost, and Perlite.
I think the gnats have come from your compost. Once my plants have germinated I leave them outdoors (after all they are quite hardy and will withstand very cold winter temperatures.) Keep safe.

My chives are maybe a few weeks old now but theyre very small and thin? Id say theyre roughly 3-4 inches but like I said theyre incredibly small and thin am i doing something wrong? They look more like "cat grass" then chives..
If you haven't used fertilizer, try adding a household plant fertilizer at about half strength and watch for a week. Don't water your plants unless the soil is beginning to dry out. Make sure they get plenty of light either on a windowsill or use fluorescent or LED lights a few inches above the plants. If you use artificial lights turn them off at night.
