  • My further exploration through Namibia took me to Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa. Region of Namibia where I got see the Hoba Meteorite, the largest meteorite discovered on earth. Not often you get to touch something from the outer space. What an experience!

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Throughout my journey, I'm raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: gogetfunding.com/arewethereyet/

That gravel road reminded me of the I90 interstate running through South Dakota USA; the surveyor plotted a pretty much straight line for distances of 20 to 60 or more km. On pavement can get very boring to say the least. Love the unique lens work.

What I find even more fascinating and no-one seems to mention it, is that it landed in the middle of that small walled / stepped garden 😮 😮 😉 😂

How different is the make up of the rock compared to rocks on earth! Most interesting-certainly wouldn't want to be under it when it landed.

Well. it actually is a "metallic meteorite"- the most common type (as opposed to a stoney meteorite. It consists of a collection of metallic minerals usually with olivine. Info available says it is about 84% iron and 16% nickel with trace of cobalt. They are usually magnetic and as you can guess are very dense. Most meteorites vaporize on their way thru the atmosphere- and the meteorite you see likely represents only portion of the original meteorite since they usually "explode" into many fragments during passage thru the air. (Enough info!).

I was only 2 years of age when that rock was recognised by society and as you touched it, I was waiting for it to Buzz and turn a different colour, before an Alien emerged from inside it and spoke to you in an Aussie Lingo (Good day Kinga) but of course that didn't happen, so its just part of space debris that Earth can now claim as a speciality. Cheers Kinga, ride safe.
