    I used to work as a Museum Assistant in Colchester Castle, Essex. There is a wide spiral staircase leading up to the roof. A question visitors often asked was "What's the quickest way down from here?" I was always tempted so say "Just jump over the side!", but I never did...

    That staircase is a work of art on its own!

    I went here as a kid, i have fond memories of legging it up the stairs high on smarties, seeing how high it was and then running back down scared haha. Legend for documenting this, its sent back good memories.

      How did you survive a run down those stairs? That's insane. 😂

      I know right, i definitely wouldn't do it now. I was 9 and buzzing on smarties at the time, maturity would kick in and i'd be too scared now haha. @@holdshiftt2run308

    You said the worst thing about Vertigo is the ground Rushing away from you You forgotten when the ground rushes towards you When you pass out And you come round About 6" off the ground And you think this is going to hurt. Lovely video I haven't seen that place since the BBC4 A303 HIGHWAY TO THE SUN

    There used to be an old building in the woods to the south of the tower, was said to be an old convent. Quite a small place though and I think it’s a private dwelling now.
    Great video, reminded me of home as I could see the tower on the hill side from there.

    A very majestic start to the video with some spectacular view across the hills and damn straight park next to the tower and not walk miles although you may want a picture of the tower from a distance. I think my knees would be a bit wobbly looking down from up that high jeez and my mind wold be saying no no no no but the views out are beautiful. Interesting chaps on the front desk seemed fun.

    Great video! I went up Alfred's Tower several times in the 1980's and still shudder at how scary that staircase is. I think they really should put sturdy handrails on both inner and outer sides so people can safely pass each other. Apart from that the place is lovely and the views amazing. In perfect conditions you can see the southern part of the Brecon Beacons in Wales, and I believe looking East the furthest place is Butser Hill, 60 miles away in Hampshire. That makes it one of the few places in Southern England where you can see two places that are more than 100 miles from each other. Incidently Butser Hill is almost exactly in line (behind) Salisbury Cathedral.

    Nice to know I'm not the only one with a love of flying accompanied with a fear of heights. I had less of a fear hiking through the mountains in South Africa than going up the stairs in a block of flats. I can't stand the transparent glass banisters so many shops like to use! Great footage, thanks 🙂

    Why don't you like the national trust ?

    • @TheSecretVault
      @TheSecretVault  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Allegedly National Trust have claimed properties from people by compulsory purhcase orders due to them wanting to "DEMOLISH THE HOUSES" to bring back a more historical views to some places such as Avebury. National Trust then didnt demolish the houses and started renting them. The people who were displaced from these houses had to go and live in council style houses instead of their historic ancestoral family homes in nice old fashioned houses inside Avebury. This is a crime. National Trust are slimy and all about the money.
