How to Get Your Podcast to the Top of Apple for $5🎙Darknet Diaries Ep. 27: Chartbreakers

  • Something is wrong with the Apple Podcasts top charts. Why are shows with no reviews and bad audio neck-and-neck with celebrities and NPR? Nagging questions lead to full-blown obsession and the Bangladeshi cottage industry of podcast marketing.
    Visit darknetdiaries... for a list of sources, full transcripts, and to listen to all episodes.

    A relative of mine tried to boost sells of their book on Amazon by having all their friends and relatives buying it and leaving a good review. One of the short comings was a person bought the book based on the reviews, and then called them out on all the good reviews, because he didn't find the book lived up to the reviews it was getting.

    So I was just randomly browsing TH-cam, and the algorithm showed me a video of David Bombal. I said to myself let's see what is it about. I really enjoyed the content of that video and started to watch all his previous videos. And there comes the video of your interview. I know what podcast are but i already said to myself " nah they will be probably some guy/guys talking about things about not interesting things. Another boring news type alike". After i finished watching the video of your interview, i said to myself let's give a try .And oh boy... These podcasts that you are making are like modern true fairy tales. And the way you narrate them is amazing. Thank you very much for your hard work Jack, i am looking forward for more!!

    similar thing happened with Spotify, where a guy actually created 12000 premium accounts and made and automation script for all those accounts to listen 30-ish seconds on a podcast that had really random stuff and field recordings and such, enough to make the monetization condition and had them running for 24 hours making scoring like a couple of millions and paying for the premium accounts for a whole year completely legal just by exploiting the monetization algo completely autonomously ... leading to a change in Spotify monetization strategy and exposure of their mishaps and shortcomings ...

    I like all your stories, but as a software guy and wannabe musician this one really hit home. You could probably do a companion piece on fake promotion scams for music too. Fake Instagram bot followers, and fake Spotify plays, all advertised in plain sight! Your point about how popular podcasts (and presumably music artists too) could use the same techniques in an almost impossible to detect form is very poignant. Keep up the good work!

    I find myself wanting to know a little more here. Not in regards to podcasting as you’ve done a great job covering that but Apple use multiple charts for Apps, Music, Books etc etc and it makes me wonder if these charts are available for similar exploits also. If so, how has this effected the charts in the long run? Who’s famous and we’ll know due to this? I’d like to know more and have some exposure to who exploited this. Not to call them out but to just see how often it was used and how many utilised it without being caught! Hmmmm interesting

    • @JackRhysider
      @JackRhysider  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm soooo glad you're also uploading to TH-cam. I know the amount of plays or views aren't many right now, and may not seem worth it (maybe the Patreon conversions are) but keep in mind all it takes is that one HIT, that one SHOUTOUT before you BLOW up. That's how I gained over 1000 subs in a couple weeks. and I only had about 10 uploads at the time. Your content is awesome, so with the right, relevant bombshell, 10k should be easy peazy. Keep up the great work!

    Algorithm for initial selection.
    Human experts for podcast quality check.
    That is probably why the guy said, both are required.
    Why?
    Well, since if everyone else is buying fake subscriptions initially, then your channel will never be considered by human experts till the platform changes its algorithm, or if your channel is outstandingly better than others.
    By the way, you might want to split your story into half and...
    It will not make some of your audience happy, that is for sure.
    But, you worked hard, and it is fair in my opinion.
