I once saw a clip of BamBam's Thai Line senior Nichkhun doing a haunted house as part of an amusement park publicity campaign and he started rambling in Thai, English and Korean after being scared by a "ghost".
He's memorized the multiplication table right, he's right, 4x7=28 but the question is 4x9, not 4x7
he was working his way up, he got to 4x8=32 but was unsure and then reset back to 4x6 and got to 4x7 until they asked for his answer, so that's why he said 28 lmao. Even simple multiplication gets hard when you haven't used it for a long time.

Yeah, I use mostly English and Korean in my day-to-day life but I default to German when I have to count or do math because it's the language I received my initial schooling in. There's a lot of research explaining this phenomenon as well. It's quite fascinating actually.
I suddenly can’t remember what language I count in. I grew up learning math in the US and Mexico so I guess I switch back and forth. But I work at a language school so on the daily I count in English, Spanish, and French. Sometimes when I’m supposed to count in Spanish I count in French or vice versa.

A trick with the 9x is to hold your ten fingers in front of you and fold whichever finger it is being multiplied with (in this case 4) and your hands will reveal the answer (3 digits are up on the right to the folded finger and 6 digits are up on the left which equals 36). The only thing is you can't go past 9x10 but still try it!

I think its cause BamBam came to Korea at a young age, so he only learnt taught subjects up (including mathematics) in Thailand until a certain point and then stopped attending school since he was in Korea. I think whatever you learnt in school is the way you calculate, and since Bambam attended a Thai school, he calculates in Thai even though his Korean is probably better than his Thai nowadays.
I think in present day, the companies would arrange or allow him to attend online school of sorts but that sort of technology wasn't readily available or promoted at that time.

I speak a total of three languages at a level you wouldn't realise I'm not native unless you're paying attention. I obviously know how to count in all three and do calculations. However, there is no chance I'll put myself through actually doing math in any other language other than my native unless I absolutely have to.
So my question meant: Isn't this completely normal?? Why are we mentioning this as something significant, however funny it seems?
I mean, it's obviously an innocent video meant to, at the end of the day, advertise bam, so I don't mean anything by this. It just seemed a bit silly, sorry

I agree, it's normal to calculate and think in your native language first and foremost. I myself can speak Thai and English fluently with a passable level of French but I still think in English cause that's what I was brought up thinking in (even though my mum would speak solely Thai to me). I still have dreams in Thai from time to time, and if I know I need to use Thai in the near future, I'll sometimes collect my thoughts in Thai too but very rarely do I spend my day to day collecting my thoughts in Thai.
I think the case with Bambam is the fact that he's lived in Korea since he was basically a pre-pubescent teen and he's been there for approximately half his life so Korea has arguably become his first language. As a Thai you can tell his Thai isn't 100% fluent anymore (Minnie from G:IDLE seems the most fluent in Thai since she was a trainee much later I presume) and from the Korean comments I've translated, it seems his grasp of the Korean language is very good so I guess that's why they would think he would calculate in Korean, but I already mentioned in my previous comment.
Should BamBam calculate in Bantu, genius?
